The mental game and pre-shot routine are two things that are so overlooked at the amateur level. A lot of times when I was younger I would fixate on my physical game so much that I would get frustrated when I couldn't repeat shots. I had a pre-shot routine, but oftentimes I would stop doing it after a mistake. Once I learned to forget that previous shot, it helped take my game to a much higher level. Love the video, Darren. Hopefully we can see more content on the mental game soon!

The tip about using less upper body and just guiding the ball is money. I struggle a ton with repeating good shots and I always feel myself trying to force the ball down lane after I make a mistake. I have to constantly remind myself to just let the ball go. Good stuff DTang.

Facts. When I give the ball some push, it's corner pin instantly. If I force it up or down it's accuracy problem. A lot of amateurs want to jump into speed changes, hand position changes, and form changes before they think calm throws are great throws

Can you make more videos of you giving lessons? This is a a great tool for people who are having the same problems and for people who want to start coaching. You said a lot of things that would really benefit coaches as far as mental game and just educating them about the fundamentals about the swings and bowling in general. I love your videos keep doing great thing for the bowling community!

Great video! The tips are really good. I have a list of things I keep in mind when I get on the lane, mainly related to my body position from head to toe. There are a lot of moving parts to bowling that people don't realize. My preshot routine is pretty solid, I look forward to the next tips video, but I am really looking forward to an updated Tier List review with all the new releases from the past couple of months (and the new ones releasing next month)

Alex is pitching forward throughout the approach, being most forward at the deliver. I would recommend setting the spine angle in all of its parameters (forward tilt, lateral tilt, and rotation) at the setup, and not changing it at all through the approach and delivery. I also think his particular style of tuck is inconsistent, and he would likely benefit from working on a swing that's straight back and straight forward. He appears to me to do the tuck with muscle, and everything might improve with more of a Verity Crawley swing plane. Practicing a figure 8 using only his hand position might get him accustomed to a straight swing, as well as getting the palm forward/inside the ball at the release point. Also, he's hitting at the release, and I'd like to see him try a zero acceleration swing through the release, as a practice technique.

Me and my pro shop operator were talking about bowlers are some of the most routine people in the world. I count. Blow my hands off for a 5 count, wipe my ball 5 for a 5 count, blow my hands for another count of 5. Ill bowl on extremely dry lanes and be wiping my ball off every time like this or the blowers wont be working and im still "drying my hands" and people will be commenting about how pointless it all is. Im like its my routine. It may seem pointless to you but to me its imperative.

My current coach never really works on mental side with us. Ya my school had a coach for jt but she doesn't enforce it. And if we are to hype or too angry or down she doesn't help. It wasn't till she had to miss finals and our old coach came back that I stopped caring about what happened after it left my hand. I can't change what happened. But I can change what I do on the next shot. I'm much more level headed when I bowl cuz of him. Along with a personal coach of mine who helped me be able to see what the pins showed me I'm a much better bowler both on thr lane and behind the foul line because of Jeff and Andy

Alex's timing seems to be off. His feet reach the foul line before his ball does, so he looks to be pushing down on the ball at the bottom of the swing to catch up, which may be contributing to his swing inconsistency. He's a tall dude, maybe he should start further back to match his feet up with his swing.

I'm terrible at consistency, I been getting big scores 250 plus but when I think about it I go down in performance almost like I gotta feel it. If I dont feel it I will never get it going. I told my buddy last time I feel excited then I get embarrassed and then angry and more embarrassed it hits different when people see me bowl 250+ then 150 and they say it's sandbagging but they don't know how many things didn't click for me and how quickly I wanna dissappear and never bowl again. BUT I STILL DO, I have potential just gotta fixed the mental aspects.

Following the transition and knowing when to switch balls is one of the more difficult things to do in this sport. I see a lot of folks wheeling in 3-5 balls, then using only 1 ball the entire night, struggling in games 2 and 3 because they did well with that ball in game 1. There is a reason for bringing multiple balls. Darren said in his past videos that his favorite ball is the one that he is striking with at that time. High level bowling mentality.

When I need to go straighter, I do my set up then move forward about 4 inches. What this does for me is slows down my feet, shortens back swing and along with a soft hand position, I get more speed down lane. My roll is more end over end and the ball doesn't slow down as much as when I'm hitting on it. Didn't make sense to me either, but that's what happens.
@melgibson3287
@melgibson3287 8 ай бұрын
Man that back swing is broken. Why is he drifting to the left with his back swing. That's what is really killing his accuracy. Swing should be on the same plane. Like Golf the left arm has to keep the same position throughout the swing until the follow through. You can tell when someone has a swing or is throwing it. This gentleman is throwing the bowling ball. Not rolling it off a swing. 😎
