Since Ninh Binh is only 2 hours away from Hanoi (via limo bus), it's a popular day-trip destination for many travellers in Hanoi. Those with more time for exploring can usually spend 3 days or more in Ninh Binh -- especially travellers who like to travel slowly.
Here's my recommendation of places to visit in a 3 days 2 nights itinerary:
- Stay at Tam Coc Melody Guest House (My favourite guest house in Ninh Binh!).
- Dine at Gia Minh Beer Garden (Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff)
- Cycle or walk around Tuyệt Tịnh Cốc.
- Eat at Family Restaurant (Tasty meals and friendly staff).
- Visit Bich Dong Pagoda (Nice photography location).
- Explore Thung Nham Bird Garden Ninh Binh (Mermaid Cave is pretty cool!).
- Go up to Mua Caves for sunset or sunrise (I liked the sunset view.).
- Explore Bai Dinh (A lot of walking is required.).
- Grab some food at Father Cooking Restaurant (Food is good, although the service can be slow.)
- Experience the Tam Coc boat ride (The view is better in late spring or summer).
- Take the Trang An boat tour (Routes 2 and 3 are pretty cool.)
I usually take a limo bus as it's quick and easy. I have travelled with Trang An Limousine and have had good experiences with their service. However, this time I travelled with Minh Long Limousine.
