Most Buddhist temple stays I've seen on social media have seemed to be very coordinated where you eat with the monks, wake up for their early morning rituals, etc. I didn't expect this one to be any different until I got a message from our host saying "Meals are not provided". Being that the temple is in a small Korean village, I went in to the experience not knowing exactly how we'd get our food, but I had faith that we'd figure it out.
In this video, I walk you around the Hyeonbulsa Temple grounds showing you the potentially 1,000 year old temple, where the monks sleep, our guest room, how we dealt with the food issue, and my thoughts after spending 3 days there.

안녕하세요, 템플스테이를 가끔 하는 한국인입니다. 한국의 어떤 사찰도 에어비앤비를 운영하지 않습니다. 아마도 현불사 근처에 있는 에어비앤비에서 허위광고를 한 것 같은데 안타깝군요. 사찰에서 직접 제공하는 템플스테이는 웹사이트가 따로 있습니다. Google에서 "Templestay | Finding your 'True-self' "를 검색하시면 찾을 수 있습니다. (url을 적었더니 글이 삭제되는군요.) 그리고, 서울의 북한산국립공원에 있는 금선사(Geumseonsa Temple)을 추천합니다. 서울에 있지만 또다른 세계입니다. 한국여행에 관련하여 궁금한 것이 있으면 메일 주시면 기꺼이 알려드리겠습니다. 즐거운 여행이 되길 바랍니다.

양양에 상당히 유서 깊은 사찰이 있었습니다. 몇 년 전에 개신교인의 방화로 불에 타버려 사라졌지요. 그리고 재건축을 했다고 하죠. 한국에서는 가끔 개신교인에 의한 사찰 방화가 발생합니다. 그들은 집단으로 모여 대한민국 전국의 사찰이 모두 불타 없어지도록 기도를 하는 집회를 합니다.

여기 사찰은 푹 쉬고 떠나는 개념의 사찰이네요. 그리고 일본과 유럽은 건물을 만들고 조경을 만들지만 한국은 자연속에 건물을 만드는 시스템입니다. 그래서 자연 훼손이 작고 주변 환경이 더 자연스럽습니다...😊

Many korean buddhist temples were lost during the japanese invasion in 15th century. Don't be confused with japanese occupation during 20th century. Also many temples build new buildings all the times. Then mostly build in historical style and that does not mean they were 'rebuilt', they are just new buildiing like the one you showed us @2:33 .

영상만 봤을 때는 정확하게 템플스테이라고 할 수는 없을 것 같습니다. 보통 템플스테이는 사찰에서 생활하는 스님들의 생활 모습을 체험하는 것입니다. 그런데 음식을 제공하지 않고 생활하는 기간 동안 의복을 제공하지 않는 것을 보면 템플스테이 라기 보다는 사찰 주변에 있는 펜션 같습니다. 보통 한국 사찰에서 제공하는 템플스테이는 방과 의복, 음식을 기간 동안 제공합니다.

OMG Fascinating Temple ...by watching the video of the temple .. I'm feeling the energy .. you could imagine when an actual function is going on .. As usual Amazing Content - The Korea we don't normally see!! No Signs of Affection - no kissing, not touching . we don't allow the monks to fall into "temptations" .. They do have a lot of basic amenities to live in the Temple Guest house. I'd love to visit this place. Thanks for sharing.

Most of temples in ( actually I think all of ) SK are burned in war and rebuilt. But something made of stone or steel or gold is that old, you can found them in museum.

Hello. That terrifying rock could be a dolmen. Korea has the most amount of dolmen in the world. 35000 dolmens.

If they're not providing meals, you can't say they're providing "room and board" since board means food in such context. A place that provides half-board means they provide breakfast and 1 meal, whereas full board meams breakfast, lunch amd dinner.

실제 국내 문화재들은 6.25 때 더 많이 훼손되고 사라졌습니다. 일제감정기는 애초에 전쟁으로 먹힌 게 아니라 문화재는 유지되었지만, 6,25는 전쟁을 통해 전국적으로 총알과 포탄이 날라와 많이 파괴되었습니다.

불교 문화에 대해서 가르쳐주고 체험 해볼 수 있는 기회가 없어서 아쉽네요. 당신은 괜찮다고 하지만 제 느낌에는 주변이 너무 황량하고 뭔가 내버려진 느낌입니다. 전통 산사의 느낌이 살아있지 않습니다. 다음에 기회가 있다면 방문자들에게 불교와 사찰의 역사를 이해할 수 있고 전문적인 프로그램을 제공하며 좀 더 친절한 느낌이 드는 곳을 방문하시는게 좋겠습니다.

절의 메인 건물이 대웅전인데, 안을 비추어 주신 것을 보니, 정상적인 절(사원)이 아닙니다. 스님도 없는 것 같습니다. Temple Stay는 이런 식으로 하지 않습니다. 인터넷에서 정식 템플 스테이 찾아서 가 보시기 바랍니다. 숙소를 보니 영 엉성하네요. 한국 사람들은 이런 곳에 가지 않습니다. 이곳은 아마 망할 것 같네요. 물론 반대로 외국인 입장에서 조용한 한국 시골을 보고 싶다면, 이런 곳이 좋을 겁니다.

현불사는 경북 봉화군 선포면에 위치한 절이다. 불승종의 총본산으로 1980년에 조성되었다. 생소하지만 불승종은 설송이라는 승려가 1965년 창종했다. 피부병에 효험이 있다는 약수가 나오는 호국정을 비롯해 산식각, 불광전, 설법전, 불광루 등이 갖춰져 있다. 경내에 연못은, 10여년의 기간을 거쳐 조성한 것으로, 현불사에서 기도하는 사람들에게 재물이 모여서 경제적으로 곤궁하지 않도록 염원하는 뜻을 담았다. 불승종 신도가 아니면 출입이 불가능할 수 있으니 사전에 방문이 가능한지 여부를 문의해야 한다. 현불사를 끼고 있는 백천계곡은 단풍이 유명하다
