Now I have to revisit a photo from a few months back in particular and try this technique. I was so upset when I saw it was overexposed. I’m just hoping I didn’t overexpose too much (one of those accidents of which I probably make too many despite how long I’ve been doing this and watching these tutorials)

Thank you for sharing your knowledge! I usually make initial adjustments in LR, then go into Photoshop and spend more time than I probably need to. From now on, I'll use the techniques you demonstrated for us. You made it look simple. You're a great teacher!

Great video. Thanks. Have you one on dealing with crushed blacks ( just found out that is the correct term) as I like to shoot with black backgrounds which always show up blue, or is it correct that blacks will be crushed to keep the depth ?

I find the subject selection tool often makes the edges of the subject too "crisp". It then looks like a bad cut and paste. I wish the next LR update adds some edge control. (I've used a brush subtract to soften the edge of the selection. Sort of helps).

A better technique is to shoot a clean plate background, This means the model is not in the first image. Set your exposed for the highlights. It is very important that both images are done on a stationary tripod. Then have the model get into position for the second image and adjust the exposure for her skin tones. Now take these two images into Photoshop. An HDR image in Photoshop will produce an absolute superior capture compared to a single raw image. Shooting two 14-bit depth raw files will yield you a 28-bit final image that is superior in color palette and dynamic range it's a no-brainer. The trick is to remember when you enter Photoshop it defaults to 8-bit you have to change it to 32-bit mode and then blend your bracketed images with auto HDR by selecting the option Tone in Adobe camera raw. Then when you export you can export it as a TIF a JPEG or whatever you need. Avoid editing in Lightroom because Lightroom is only 16 bit. That's only two bits more than a single raw photo has.
