These pencil holder projects take just a couple minute to make but they look so high-end that people will think you spent hours crafting them. Each pencil holder is completely customizable. Change the types of wood, the sizes, the number of pens they hold. Completely make it up! That’s what so fun about woodworking. It doesn’t always require a tremendous about of planning to make a project like this.
These pencil holders range in size; not everyone has the same about of surface space at their work or home office. That means you can pick which style you want to make for each person. Plus, you can totally engrave these to make them more personal. All in all, they are kind of the perfect woodworking gift.

This was a great idea video for me as I am looking to make something similar for tool organization. I'm bad about trying to over complicate projects, but your holders are a perfect example that simpler is sometimes way better. Love your work, stay awesome.

I love the project ideas and as others have said, the philosophy (reminder) that sometimes, just do it by eye and whatever looks best. Don't always have to be precise.

Nice pencil holders, Billy. I agree that visual is best. Years ago I needed a curve on the bottom of the wall board on a decorative shelf I was building. I couldn't find anything with my French curves that looked good. I realized I could do it free hand and I wound up with one that looked great. Bill

I have the Grizzly 12" sander, it looks exactly the same, down to the colors lol. I wouldn't be surprised if it comes out of the same factory. But I love it also. One thing I did do was replace the screw that holds the disc on. The OEM one is Philips head, I got one with an hex socket. I can actually get some torque on it to tighten it now! If you decide to get one, just be sure to check the threads, pretty sure it's metric.

You're costing me money! Well sir as I was watching this video you took a block of wood to a beast of a 12" disk sander from HF. I've been wanting this tool so I checked the website only to find they are discontinued. Burned the fuel to drive to the store and they had one left....the display model. Short story is I bought it for $149.00. It is a beast however the motor lists its power at 25hp. Not sure I buy that but glad I bought the machine. If you can find one people, buy it!

I love how you put metric sizes up every time you mention a size. I am learning that metric makes so much more sense as you don't have to stop and think whether 9/16 is smaller or larger than 5/8 or whatever, every time I'm the moment. Or go from a fractional reading to a decimal or vice versa for plans, software or readings from different tools. But my silly American brain still cannot grasp when someone tells me a measurement in metric what size it is, unless I have a tape measure with metric on it, lol. I'm trying, but it's difficult. Lol. (Ironically in much larger distances (and other measurements), I have less problems. 5 kilometers is 3.1 miles 10k is 6.2, etc (from running cross country), a yard is slightly less than a meter, 2.2 lbs to a kg. But more useful things like liters and milliliters to ounces (of which I only recently learned that us and British ounces are difference, be a use that's not confusing) or mm/cm to inches etc, can't get grasp yet in my head) One day, hopefully one day... And may future generations of Americans have a more consistent measurement system. (Even if not the metric system, lol)

Good Morning, Billy. Thanks for featuring these pencil holders. I really enjoy watching you build the complicated projects that you do, but I have to honestly say that I'm not actually capable of completing most of them. I think that I can do these pencil holders and I'm always looking for gift ideas to give to my family. I'm on a fixed income, so these p/holders may just be what the wood doctor ordered. Thanks again. BTW: I see the Dremel in the background. What project did you do with it? Also, how about a cookbook holder build??
@NewtonMakes
@NewtonMakes Жыл бұрын
Exactly why I'm trying to balance different types of projects. We all have varying skills, money, tools, and time. The dremel was for sanding some scroll saw pieces. I've made a cook book holder in the past but didn't film it. Good video idea. 👍

You didnt talk much about sanding. after you cut these how much sanding are you doing. do you "pop the grain" and sand again, before applying the oil?
@cdubby5
@cdubby5 Жыл бұрын
Have the same questions. Also wondering if and how the holes are sanded
@NewtonMakes
@NewtonMakes Жыл бұрын
No grain popping. Simply hand sanded everything with 180 grit and then 220. No need to sand deep in the pen holes. Just the areas where fingers might touch.
