P line 1) Easy wheel extender. Required on all brompton. Number 1 mod as it adds a lot of stability with just little bit more weight. 2) P line specific can be modded for 7 speed. That will give much better range. The current range is similar to the A line. You can fit 11 to 21 in the stock wheel set, use rear derailleur like ruhm. 3)ditch the tpu tubes. They don’t make a huge difference in speed. Actually none, just difference in acceleration and deceleration. But at the cost of a rough ride and higher punctures.

Since I met & married my wife almost 40 years ago we have been back 4 or 5 times. I think a Brompton would be ideal for hopping on & off the ferries to explore the islands in the harbour.

Exactly! I'll probably try to make a video of me taking the various forms of transport. The Brompton is really a great fit for Hong Kong

Thank you for the video. I tried using the H&H dual chainring 54 and 33 tooth on the p-line. Unfortunately, the jump in chainring size is too much for the p-line Derailleur. The chain derails (no pun intended) in the back on the derailleur. Probably could use a smaller dual chain ring so that the chain ring size difference isn’t so large. I’m going to try a 45 tooth ring first in the front. And I also have the H&H 40 tooth chainring if the 45 isn’t enough. I know H&H has a smaller size dual chainring 44 and 31 tooth. Anyway, it’s fun experimenting. Thank you for the video again. Patrick 😊 Update: I was able to get the H & H 54/33T dual ring to work on the stand. You have to remove the chain guide, and also I changed to the 10 speed KMC chain instead of the Sunrace. It is a bit heavier but seems to make a difference keeping the chain from binding up in the derailleur. I also am running 104 links instead of the 106 that is recommended for 54T ring by Brompton. Will see how it goes…. If you’re doing the “foot-step” shift to the 33T on the H&H, I recommend not going higher than third (3rd) gear. The chain will rub on the frame. My understanding is that this 33T is for the steepest of grades, and you would likely be staying in first or second gear anyway going up the grade.

I downsized the climbing ring of the triple on my Catrike Expedition, wonderful difference. I really like that detachable pedal you showed.

Great! Yeah the detachable pedals is a game changer. So much lighter especially since you have one less pedal completely and stop striking your leg when folded

Hello; I have a CHPT 3 V4 and I am going to change it from a 4 speed to a 6 speed because where I live there are plenty of hills. I also changed the pedals and I bought a titanium seat post which I have not yet installed.

For hills I added a 53/39 double chainring. There's no front derailleur so have to manually switch chainrings as needed, lol. Most of the time, I'm on the 53t.

Makes sense I was looking into it too but wanted to keep it simple 😂 I know that for instance with the p line you may need to remove the chain catcher and didn't know how alignment would be.

What made the most difference on my Brompton is changing it to a hard-tail by using a solid block instead of a suspension block. It's rough on bad roads, but it's lot more efficient on good roads, esp. if you're climbing out of the saddle.

By switching to a small front crank, the P line will climb easier for sure, but in the meantime, it also accelerates slower on flats, and will have a lower top speed. A better simplier option, perhaps is to change the rear gears, from original 11 13 15 18 to 11 13 17 21, without any further adjustments. Simply change the 2 largest sprockets. This mod should be adequate for most hilly riding, yet not affecting the top speed and acceleration. The P line comes with high performance bearings and wheels , so this simple change should be more than adequate for most riders.

Those pedals are very chic, but would not be *legal* in the UK. They do not have front and back-facing *yellow reflectors* that our laws require. Now, whether you would be pulled over for NOT having such pedal reflectors in the UK is a different matter. Indeed, I think the omission would likely be overlooked as not important, if the other nightime running lights and reflectors were in place on the bicycle.

Are the better bearings in the new pedals noticeable (less friction when pedaling) or is mostly just the fact that they’re lighter? Where do you keep the detached pedal?
@BestSideCycling
@BestSideCycling Жыл бұрын
Mainly the fact that they are lighter and also leads to the bike being more compact / out of the way as I'm transiting (forgot to mention this point). I almost always ride with a decent sized bag so I just keep it in there while transiting!

Do you regret getting the p-line over the c-line for the climbs? Im getting a p-line electric and even though the motor will do most of the work, I'm still worried that I should've gone with the extra gears on the c-line for Seattle.
@BestSideCycling
@BestSideCycling Жыл бұрын
Nope! The p line 4 speed is definitely aimed to be more a city bike but I think with my chainring change it suffices for all I need. The extra pounds of savings has been super key for me as I take it onto buses and subways often

I have the P line. Even with 4 gears it climbs like a DREAM. You have to understand the bike only weighs a tad over 21lbs. I'm used to riding a raleigh Chopper as a kid (41LBS) And a Tern Verge S8i (33lbs) for 3 years before I got the 21lb Pline Brompton. It feels like I'm floating in comparison. And I have no problem going over 20mph on it. Hills feel like nothing to me. I put Schwalbe One Tires on mine. And it's a dream to ride.

Can consider tyres next. Continental contact urban is my choice. The schwalbe marathon racers are simply too draggy. High rolling resistance 😅

Thanks for the tip! I changed the chain ring cuz that's what actually I had on hand with me but I'll look into the sprocket
@abcdef-cu7ek
@abcdef-cu7ek Жыл бұрын
Changing from 50T to 44T might not be a good idea, since it can cause slower acceleration and a lower top speed. Unless you do mostly hill climbing. Replacing with larger rear sprockets seems like a better option for the 4 speed gearing ( T line and P line). I would just replace the largest 2 sprockets by 17T and 21T (original 15 and 18) , and no further adjustment is required, and its more than sufficient for most road conditions.
