I feel the clicking more when I do the hip circles. That doesn’t sound right

We totally understand what you mean. It's really important to do small circles in the beginning. By making your hip circles small enough you should stop feeling the clicking. As you improve the other exercises you'll be able to go wider with the hip circles. It might take a little bit of time, but keep at it and make your circles tinier than you think they should be! Let us know if smaller circles helped stop the clicking sensation. It seems like nothing at first, but it will help you get there! With consistent work (doing these exercises 1X a day) you should see improvements in 2-3 weeks (some people see little ones sooner)!

Hi, I’ve got external hip snap, and I had it my whole life. The last 6 months I started running every day. And now since 4 weeks I got a burning sensation in my tight thigh, and a numbness, and tickling. I google it as a pinned nerve, meralgia parastetica. I think it’s connected with my snapping hip. What do you suggest, stretch, or rest or both? Should I take a week of rest?

Thank you for sharing this and reaching out. The easiest answer for you is to find someone like us locally who can properly diagnose you and also make sure you’re following a good running plan. Meralgia paresthetica isn’t the most likely diagnosis, but we can see why you think that. The right PT, DC, or possibly MD, would be able to tell fairly quickly with some simple ortho/neuro tests, and a proper consultation. If you didn’t want to go to someone yet, I would link up with a local running coach, or club. You could go to a local running store and they should be able to direct you. It’s possible you need your training plan tweaked a bit. If you haven’t begun to stretch, or foam roll, you really should. If you’d like a proper consult from us, we could set that up for you. If you haven’t tried what’s in this video yet, you should definitely see how that feels.

@@MobilityDoc thanks for the reply. My local rehab will probably give me the same exercise that I can get on KZfaq. My gut feeling say that my nerve has gotten irritated after running every day. I will take a break for some weeks. I’m doing some foam rolls and exercise. But I’m sad, I feel like this will put an end to my running. And I just started to really enjoy it. Even if the pain goes away after two weeks I guess I don’t want to start running again and risk that it will come back. 🥲

@@Koboltgolfhang in there. Maybe try decreasing how much you’re running before you fully stop running. Maybe try running 4 days and giving yourself three rest days. Or just run 3 days and have 4 rest days. You could also decrease how far and how fast. I feel that if you do more recovery work and restructure your running program you will be able to continue without stopping and then build it back up.

@@MobilityDoc Thnx for ur time! When I read several articles they say that it’s contra productive to run during active symptoms of meralgia. My right thigh is burning, not severely, but it’s burning. And it’s tickling. I don’t dare trying to run at this moment, if the nerve is pinned, I guess it will be even more irritated. Running has been a great joy and I will be sad to let it go, but playing golf is even more important, and the season starts next week, I can’t stand the thought of risking my golf. So I guess I drop the running,and when (if) the burning ends I may start with slow runs (5.30 tempo) and cross my fingers that the nerve will be calm. I will even try fasting for some days now, maybe the healing quickens up
