We rented a single-wall, louvered windows home in Waipahu, and then Wahiawa, in the 70's - was so weird after coming here from New York, had no idea construction was so different here. The problem was that in the winter, it is cooler and wetter so inside the house felt pretty much like outside and it was surprising to us. Didn't think I would be wearing sweatshirts in my house in Hawaii and must admit, I actually used an electric blanket at night in bed.

Wahiawa and Mililani Mauka have wonderful microclimates: cooler and lovely trade winds. And, it rains enough to keep the yards looking green, but still sunshiny most of the year.

I think it would be great to have a video of post-1990s and 2000s condos (high-rise) in town. Condos that maybe were built more moderately compared to luxury would be an interesting comparison. 1448/1450 Young St, 1133 Waimanu, 215 N King St all look similar to one another, and Holomua and 801 South buildings appear to be newer (2010s) condos that did not target buyers looking for an extensive set of amenities. And then compared to 2000s, more luxury condos with amenities (and maybe larger windows), such as Hokua, Capitol Place, Moana Pacific, 909 Kapiolani, and others.

Derek, thanks for sharing Makakilo. When we went to Oahu, Makakilo was our “favorite place” because of the trade winds, and slightly cooler temperatures… But most of all, because of how quiet it was compared to areas below, like Eva… I could hear the birds singing from up in Makakilo. It felt like “home in Hawaii.” Plus, the price there of homes would be possibly doable for my wife and I, as we get close to our retirement years. Thank you very much for the video! Larry

I’m interested in why you chose to live in Mililani now, and where on Oahu you would choose to live if you had no monetary limitations. And, ditto for Mahe. 🌿

More on non-DR Horton, older, studier units & builds, please? I really liked your video on Modea. Something comparable to Imperial Plaza, Kainalu Apartments or Discovery Bay.

As always love the videos. Especially anything Makakilo. I own a home there and can’t wait to get back. Have a question. You mentioned Solar panels in the video. What if anything will add value to a home? Like pool or solar? That would be a good video. What upgrades have the best ROI!

This just confirms Kapolei with all the services and good schools nearby. The greenery and quick access to White Plains Beach is the bonus. The cooling winds are a plus too.

What were the prices in the 90's and 2000?

My parents bought that house for like $310k in 2002 and then sold in 2006 or ‘07 for 630k. The price got back down to $300k or so in the recession and now it’s worth $1.1mish

A couple big rivers meet the ocean in that area and after a rain the ocean does appear to be muddy and brown. Otherwise, the ocean is usually blue.
