I wonder what this stove looks like after repeated uses? Did the clay crack or did the fire get hot enough to vitrify it? Regardless, this is an interesting build. Thank you for sharing it with us.

@@trachle281 sure. The great concerne is about these concretes. Are they fire prouf ? And what about that cement. They will rise hight temperature as well as the clay.

@@guillaumelefrancois5255 Clay will last for a long time without crack. He uses clay as insulation to prevent high heat from causing cracks in the concretes. However, the stove is made to use in tropical climates, not for use in a cold zone where the weather drops below 0 degrees.

u can make clay lids for the holes using a cut up 5 gallon bucket for a circular mold. id even slide a threaded rod thru a wood handle and bolts a flat plate attached to the bent U shaped threaded rod and bury it into the clay lid... then fire it in your wood stove to harden it... heck if u wanted u could even get a flat piece of steel cut to fit the top so i can have a flat cooking surface... lots of things u can do with this... thank u for sharing it.

I tried the flat cooking surface option but it was cooking very very slowly even with a fierce fire in the fire box. I used a 4mm cast iron plate. It flopped. I think direct-fire is best.

you can use you stove to make biochar too.If you just make a minor change.on the fresh air in level at the back made one more openning about half the space of fresh air intake area.with a metal box with an outer handle.When those fire wood become char ,they are small enough then drop to that chamber ,will burn with less oxegen will produce good biochar.only about 20 percent the size of the total biomass burnning

It would have been helpful if you gave the quantity of clay used. How many kilos? In addition, it would have looked much better if it were covered in clay on the outside, as well.

Most are when they get hot... its always to be careful when playing with fire. Common sense i know will be a problem for this generation that are easily thrown off by the very existence and use of the common can opener. But they will learn.

In some countries these sorts of outdoor stoves might be allowed as permanent fixtures - but only on the winter or colder weather times in Australia and definitely not in the summer - and who wants to be outside in winter - cooking? Innovative designs though, nevertheless. :) Even so, heat would eventually crack the mortar and - if not 'solid' fire bricks - the bricks themselves, most likely. The so called 'rocket stoves' where the bricks are simply stacked on top of one another - which would allow for heat expansion - with no mortar used - might be a better way to go and wouldn't involve any additional skills like welding and /or even basic bricklaying knowledge being needed. And, of course - far less time and effort to construct and able to be easily relocated. ;)

How do you think BBQ's were built in Australia 40 years ago? Well be before the invention of the gas barby plenty of back yards had brick BBQ's with mortar in them. I grew up on a farm and we had one. As for who wants to be outside in Winter cooking, ever hear of a camp fire? You would be right when it comes to a gas BBQ but a raging camp fire in winter... time you got out more

@@wazza9089 Hi - I intend to get out more and yes a raging campfire is possible in winter in the bush here in Australia - My son and daughter in-law have already had that on our little 2 acre bush-land retreat when they camped there this year. It's only a camping block [ no building permit allowed] with a tin shed on it and a mostly stripped out caravan with no cooking facilities in it - so I'm looking at other ways to cook in the Great outdoors [in winter mostly, or - possibly in summer] besides the 'raging' campfire. ;)

@@soloman9151 Sounds nice, i got 50 acres myself in the hills on the outskirts of Perth but its farm land (stock not crop) with a lot of big Jarrah and Mari on it. Got a big shed which i park the Van in for now. We are up there most weekends and this time of the year im mostly cooking on the campfire but its dependent on the weather as its an open campfire. So im looking at building something like this that can keep the wood burning with light rain. I have a gas BBQ in the shed but imo it cant compete with the campfire, the grill over the coals adds extra flavor you cant get with gas. Once late spring comes around campfires wont be allowed so will be back to the gas then. Enjoy your 2 acres mate, cant beat a bit of nature imo.

@@wazza9089 Thx mate - you enjoy your bit of nature too. I was lucky to get that two acres at the time I did because I didn't have a lot of money at the time - still don't - but being a camping block only it was basically the cheapest lot in the whole of Victoria and 12 grand seven years ago was a bargain. Can't get anything like it these days for several times that price today. Council regulations won't allow an official building on the block - due to issues with possible flooding - however If I had money to build on it - there's a NZ company that makes compost toilets, that of course wouldn't drain into the Dam like a septic supposedly would - and no sewerage is ever going to be put through that area as it's too far from the township - but the compost toilet makers claim they can get buyers of their product a permit - so maybe one day - but in the meantime camping on it and recycling fencing materials from the local fencing contractor at my main residence location in Bacchus Marsh - is working out pretty well in the shed improvement side of things with the existing shed and making a large dog run - using recycled red-gum posts. Trouble is my Bacchus house looks like a timber yard at present because of surplus Pallet wood and fencing materials scrounged from the local businesses here. My Dad used to be a bit of a tip rat when I was a youngster as we, as a family, were not that well off financially - so I guess I get that scrounging side of my nature from him. :) I was lucky not to have had to work 2 Jobs most of my life - as dad did - just to make ends meet but he was a very good dad and always looked after his family - so I count myself blessed in many ways and scrounging for Free building materials is fun anyways. ;)
