The thing I like about Turkey is that you can see both eastern and western cultural features at the same time

The first song "Çökertme" is one of the most famous anonymus Turkish folk songs which belongs to Aegean area of Turkey. It is also accompanied with "zeybek" dance and played on most of the weddings in western part of Turkey. When you read the translation of the lyrics, it may seem sloppy and random. But the lyrics are written in old Turkish words and phrases which belong to Ottoman Empire era. For example "kolcu" is translated as "cops" but in Ottoman Empire, there were no cops as we know today. Kolcu's were members of military patroling the mountains. So, its meaning is closer to "Ranger" or "patrol". Also, every folk song has a backstory. The song only mentions bits and pieces of that story. If you read the story and listen the song after that. It would make better sense. This is probably same for every folk song around the world. But after reading the translations, I couldn't hold myself because that translations made this song look a little bit stupid :)
