Yes. Imagine how bad the weather has to be, to reach the depths of -45°C, while at sea? The ocean usually makes temperatures a little more stable than land.

​@@sigma_six Well... It is the steel that will make it so they just find debrie instead of solid structures. Seriously that's why Roman concrete buildings last for ages. They didn't reinforce their buildings with steel which corrodes and causes cracks which even more water can seep in. Also our modern concrete is much easier to work with. Anyway I doubt we will lose so much knowledge that we will forget what the hell an oil rig is.

#1 Petronas, the underwater bouancy structure shown whin built, at Harbor Island, Port Aransas, Texas the structure was called then "Bullwinkel Project" I worked on the beautiful structure.

Norway’s Oil Rigs in the north sea is subjected to one of the harshest storm conditions on earth and has stood its ground with waves of up to 25 meters tall since the 1970.

If it's a platform, e.i. stationary, then it's fine as those are quite resilient. If it's a rig, then it's less stable. And you feel the strong storm alright🤢

Also, Petronius is NOT "supported by buoyancy". Its entire weight is supported on foundation piles on the seabed.

its not in arctic, it was designed to work in areas close to equator. It currently sits 10 or so miles off coast of Tahiti. In fact, crewman routinely take their time off to hit beaches n Tahiti huts for beer, relaxation and of course: Booty!

These structures are cool and a massive innovation, but in future we should use the same awesome engineering and innovation to produce renewable energy platforms. I think they’re working on it! Bring on fusion energy (unlikely before WW3)

Yep....your spot on. 0°C is freezing point, and 100° C is boiling point. 38°C is as near as damn it to 100° f. I'm guessing they don't mean minus 44° C but rather minus 4° C. I doubt the piping would withstand minus 44C

The last picture of Troll A platform of the coast of Norway in the North Sea uses suction to create one of the strongest man made connections to a ground object ever attempted, the suction anchor the hole platform to the sea bed. Storms and bad weather have never been able to move it and it’s operating in very harsh environment since 1970’s.
