Don't sleep on Jordan. I like his simplistic approach and being organized with the hint of complication by undermounting the drawer slides. I can see a lil use for everyone's contribution. I usually morph ideas together when building things. I really enjoyed watching this series. Keep it coming. Go team Jordan...

The “beginner” should be required to use a little portable table saw and circular saw with a straight edge and clamps...like the tools that beginners have.

Agreed, but not even a table saw. "DIY" should include hand tools and hand-held power tools only. Rip the plywood with a circular saw while its hanging over a sidewalk curb.

😅 I second this and agree, I learned about straight edge clamps not too long ago. Bought one and haven't even used it.

Sir...those are not simply "tools". Those are Woodpecker implements; the equivalents of trophy wives or virtue-signaling yard signs on election years. These laser engraved status symbols are reminders of the inferiority of us lowlier, ill equipped, non SawStop owners!

Someone mentioned that the beginner level should be what a normal person would have around thier home, like a drill, circular saw and maybe even a table saw, but nothing too crazy so we can actually build some of this at home!!

I made the beginner cart design and added french cleats to the sides so it can be a project cart that can have interchangeable tools on the sides depending on just what the project is. I take the required stools off my french cleated walls and they slip right on the sides. It can go onto the deck or out of the garage with me.

I don’t think I can pick a favorite. Each one brings something to the table. Most of my shop furniture is just a quick solution for my needs. I think after watching this I will practice my joints on shop stuff like John does. Thanks guys doing a great job.

Ironically our next challenge is a One Sheet & One board challenge, Me vs. Sam and Jordan. We each have 2 days and we spin a wheel to pick the project. What do you think ?

I almost launched coffee out of my sinuses when the "Just the Tip" segment came on. Some grade A Assclownery!! Really like the 3 levels vids and I think the "stadium" cart is good in theory and could be useful but the big fella's cart was the best IMO. That assembly top is something I could use.

Really like the 3 way format would love to see it applied to level of equipment too. Like DIY just has battery powered stuff, intermediate has a miter saw, expert has jointers, table saws, etc

@@gregntammie Everything they made can be done with just a circular saw, pocket holes is not the only way to put screws in wood

@@gregntammie maybe watch for method. Better, more expensive tools, make for faster production. The method remains the same. A $25, well tuned Stanley hand plane can accomish the same as a $25k Format jointer/planer. It'll just take longer.

No lumber could be described as 'cheap and affordable' right now. When I am paying $15 for one 2x4 or $25 for a pressure treated one, time to take a break from DIY for a bit.

@thezfunk prices have dropped in the 2 years since your list but because most US dimensional lumber comes ft n Canada - it's long overdue you check with your local wood mill & avoid big box stores at all costs - because the Canadian mills are a hot mess again & getting worse!

I liked the first one - in fact will be building three or so for a 2 level miter saw setup, and a table saw outfeed table/cart. Thanks for the great examples, and some day I may have time and energy to make ones like the third version. I will be looking at the Adam Savage cart as. as a third [project. Great, fast versions of the builds!

Great video and great Ideas. John - yours looks too pretty to use! I think I would do a hybrid of John and Sams! Jordan - great job thinking outside the box - I would be nervous that my cart would tip over when I open the lid up. Great work guys!

I'm so glad to hear someone say that they like to practise joinery techniques on shop furniture! Once I clean up enough space in my garage to actually have room to build and use shop furniture of my own, I intend to do the same. Every design idea for potential shop furniture I've doodled in my notebook has used different joins so that I could learn how to do them better. So hopefully when I eventually get to using them on a project that I don't want to screw up, I'll have made most of my mistakes on something I don't mind won't be perfect. Of course, having said that, John's use of those joins in his cart is still way beyond my skill level at this stage 😂

I would have to say Sam's is the best. I have two carts that Adam Savage made. One is for general hand tools, and another is for my wood working stuff (planes, saws, glue, sandpaper). I use both every day. I am a believer of "drawers are where tools go to die" I don't remember who said it (maybe Adam). Keep up the good work, love the videos. Go Bears

I'm going to be difficult and say...Take the top from Jordan's, marry it to John's cart, and use Sam's stadium idea for outboard storage.

All 3 carts look solid and fuctional. I used dowels for my cart, whenever I use pocket holes something always goes wrong, the screws poke through the other side or sometimes the screws strip out - they don't tighten. Also, pocket holes leave such a big gouge in the wood.

Love the sliding tabletop on the beginner. Can you do a triple option for kitchen carts? Trying to find ideas for my wife that will hold cast iron pans under the top with a cutting board top that slides open and holds cooking utensils

Realistically, you should show them side by side at the end for an easy comparison view. As others have said, hard to pick a clear winner as all three bring unique elements to the table…

Swap the DIY with the pro carts. As a pro, I use lots of carts to move material through the shop. With a few exceptions, they allow like you DIY cart. I don't have the time a hobbyist has to make that fancy pro cart. Nor do I have a need for it. I need a quick, dirty, cheap, strong rolling cart. Love the video. Never underestimate the awesomeness of a fleet of carts!

I was honestly expecting all three to be lined up and shown off at the end of the video. Kind of disappointed because we never got to see them loaded up.

Seems like most of this series has been shop type stuff. Wondering how it would go doing something like a bookcase or side-table, which is still super open to different levels, but might have different asthetics.

Yes! I feel like I didn’t get a good look at Sam’s finished product. A 360° of each one would be pretty useful.

The DIY one is actually pretty decent. I would give the top edges of the sides some finishing paste wax just to make it slide a little nicer. I'm actually about to build sort of a shop cart which will double as a 20" wide (44" long) infeed table for the table saw (enough to aid in supporting a sheet of plywood by centering it with the blade). It will have drawers and will park under my side bench. Maybe I'll have the top on a hinge so I can store stuff up top the way this one works..

A pro tip that I'd like to share in "no loose cloths or dangly pull cords around power tools....... especially table saws". Jordan's pull cords, for his hood, made me wince when he was on the table saw. I know there's a whole perspective issue and there might have been quite a big gap, but next time he might have to lean over a bit further and ............! I have even seen this happen and I was so glad that my friend didn't have nots on the end of his toggle and that it wasn't stitched in anywhere. He did get pulled towards the blade but thankfully the cord pulled all of the way through his hood before it was to late. It took him a long time to get back into his shop, but we have all learnt from his mistake and are hopefully a lot safer for it 👍

I see a hybrid of all 3 working. 2 layers of FOR on the non-handle side, but then compartment shelves for the small part organizers makes a lot of sense. Instead of lower drawers, you could have carry space for your larger tools, open to either side, so all 3 sides of the cart are 'useful' but with the clampdown top. Perhaps use a variation of a french cleat system will pull stops to allow the top to be slid off and swapped w/o disassembling anything.
