A good crowbar might be my first choice in a zombie apocalypse. A serviceable zomebie defense weapon, basically unbreakable, zero maintenance and most importantly give you easy access to shelter and resources.

I think you've got the right formula Tac. A spear, sword/machete, and axe make for a killer combo (quite literally). As for what I own at this moment, it'd be the Windlass Armory Hewing Spear, ZT Deuce II, and a Cold Steel spike hawk. Though, if it were a zombie apocalypse, I'd be strapped head to toe in all sorts of blades (practical or not!).

Men have the foresight to keep and bear arms. Never see a chick talking about this.

Inspired by you sir, I got the CRKT Woods Kangee T-Hawk. I wasn't sure about the spike at first, but I've grown to appreciate it. It makes picking up split wood a lot more fun.

one interesting advantage of that cold steel boar spear is that you can wrap the cone in fiberfix, and if needed remove the head from the handle and use it as a sword. the fiberfix can add grip.

The best melee weapon is a two handed axe, it’s long ranged, can chop down trees, can be used as a hammer, the weight will destroy your opponents and it’s good if you’re ever outnumbered because of its reach also it can bar doors shut, there’s nothing a good axe can’t do

I love this subject matter, & I can't wait to see Chris' vid with his selections. Mine would of course be one of my bowie knives, brass knuckles because what on Earth is more rad-tastic than that - "oh dude, here comes another zombie..shit, I'm out of ammo" - "No prob bra" - skadoosh! - right in its zombie face, & then everyone's like "damn, he straight up punched a zombie to re-death, I'm not messin' w that man". I guess my 3rd weapon would be some kind of sweet spear thing, for when I'm just not feeling the close quarters combat - maybe a Spartan Dory, but I'd also use a shield with it - that counts as one weapons system! Actually, that'd be a pretty sweet set up, a one handed spear and a shield - I could still wear my brass nuks while holding my shield, & my bowie's always right there on my belt. Again, love this subject, it feeds my inner man-boy, love it!

My philosophy regarding the (hypothetical) zombie apocalypse is a three blade carry. Specifically, one main melee weapon, ranging from 35"-18" OAL, that can be strapped to my back and easy to unsheath, one blade that is 17"-11" OAL (i.e full sized fixed blade knife or medium hatchet), and one smaller blade for finer tasks (small fixed blade or folder). I can mix and match many of these weapons and I would have a hard time picking a favorite combination from my collection. On a side note, I think larger weapons have their place, you made a very good point on that spear, but I wouldn't carry it around over a rifle. Spears are for defending static positions like a deck. Also, hammer faced tomahawks are great to keep near the doors in case they'd need to be barricaded in a pinch and work great in close quarters.

Based on the ones I already own: Cold Steel San Mai III Gurka Kukri (bushcraft, zombies, personnel), CRKT Kangee T Hawk (breaching, zombies, personnel), Derespina Model 4 Karambit (personnel).

mine would be a bayonet so it could also have distance on a gun, an expensive katana for slicing easy, and probably and axe or tomahawk

ima gonna go with the cold steel bowie bushman. very very light, works as a spear or a machete a stick you can fashion with it on the go, it is long enough for fighting as a knife, rather good for carving, slicing. it can even do so chopping wood, on a handle, great kitchen knife, nice curved blade for processing an animal and hide. next would be a dagger of my design. then...i dunno, maybe a wire saw that can be used to make its own bow, or as a garrot lol

I like the sword. Won't easily break. Unlike a katana. In real life katana would break easily with overused.

Ok, haven't seen you list yet.. But you Asked us a Question. Without seeing your list yet... #1 = Hammer/Nail Puller Full Tang versions. Why ? Multi-functions. Hammering, skull smashing, bobe crushing, and the Nail Pullers double as a small pry bars, double spike. No Ammo. Only con, melee range only. #2 = Tomahawk Depends on style. Why ? Multi-Functions & purposes. Hawk Blade, Cutting, Chopping, Splitting of course. No Back side can still be used to bash, always good. Hammer Poll, duh as a hammer, smashing, crushing, etc... Spiked back, skull piercing, ice work, deconstruction of stone walls, cement stuff, metal piercing, etc... #3 = Ranged Weapon of some kind would be nice. Might not needed unless its quite. Spear or a Long Bow or Primitive Crossbow. Spear ? Long Melee attacks, plus throwing option. Longbow ? Arrows for hunting & defense. Crossbow ? Same as longbow. Longer reload though

I agree with the spear being an underrated, underappreciated and overlooked weapon. In an open field you have the advantage of being able to create a large defensive perimeter around yourself and to hold offenders at bay. And while your movements are restricted in a narrow room, hallway or passage, you can control the space and keep an enemy from entering or advancing on to you. Sword, machete, baseball bat, etc., are all good in the right hands. Cutting tools can cause excessive bleeding or dismemberment while blunt force trauma from a bat or club can knock out or knock down an opponent. I think axes, hatchets and tomahawks have the advantage of adequate weight and sharp edges, hammer pols or spikes to cut, chop, mash, slash and crush your target.

A Viking sharp edged long spearhead to use as a blade or mount on a handle for a spear. A Spartan shield for defense straight on or behind(if strapped on your back), yet heavy enough to bash skulls. Last, a tomahawk to fight with in close quarters where swinging a sword would be difficult.

So Tac, you're sleeping in a small one-person tent. In the middle of the night, a zombie shows up and silently goes inside. You wake up and realize mr zombie is in the tent. What weapon would you want to have? My guess is you'd want to have a heavy fixed blade like a bowie or some kind of heavy chopper, right?

protect equipment is more important. You need to protect yourself from splash of infected zombie blood. Gogle, mask, glove, ...etc... Maybe a shield too... Although you are not bitten, you can be infected by splash of zombie blood. Thus, in Mele battle situation, protect guards are indispensible.

I am going to list items that I own, instead of wish list items, and bladed items only. My Kabar fighting knife, Sog fasthawk, and my 3 foot prybar. I will upgrade in the future as money allows, but those should suffice for the time being.

I've been researching this for a few years now. I have come to pretty much the same conclusions you have- A Spear, A Shortsword, and an Axe. Funny how this is pretty much what humans have carried for centuries! Francisca, Seax, and Spear. As always, Great Vid Tac!

I don't have any sweet swords, spears, or tomahawks. I would have to improvise with weapons of convenience.

If I had my choice of anything I would take a halberd (polearm) a Warhammer and a leaf shaped Greek style short sword.

I think those are effective choices but impractical for me. Since I would also carry ranged weapons i. e. a rifle, pistol, and ammo for both carrying a sword and/or a spear becomes unappealing to me. I would opt for something like a big roofing hammer for urban environments and a tomahawk for woodland environments and pair that with a buckler.

Thankyou for saying what Ive known all along about the spiked tomahawk. I do love my Cold Steel Pipehawk and it has proven a great tool but my Cold Steel Spikehawk is a perennial favorite.

I like the tomahawk idea. I don't have any really 'high dollar' stuff but would probably go with my CRKT Woods Chogan. It does have a hammer poll instead of a spike but as someone with no training using a 'hawk as a weapon I think I'd probably have a better chance crushing skulls with the hammer than trying to spike them plus, due to inexperience, I would be concerned that the spike would become lodged and I would get munched by the next rotter in like while trying to pull it out. Another think I like about the more 'traditional' style woods chogan is that I could take the head off and use it for finer tasks if I needed to. Like you said, it would be needed for more than killing zombies. Second I would probably go with an old school crow bar. I'm thinking one of the short/medium ones, about a two feet long or so. It would easily slide into my belt, could be used to bash zombie skulls and would come in real handy if, as you said, I had to break into a locked place for some reason. Third would probably be a good, strong machete - probably one with a blade around 16 inches or so. I'm not talking about a 'grass' machete but rather something with a thicker blade designed more for chopping heavier stuff. Again, I am no sword fighter so a shorter, weight forward blade would probably work best for me. Mostly I'd probably lean more toward bashing skulls than slicing and dicing but I'd want something close to hand with a sharp blade that has a little heft to it that would be strong enough to take grasping hands off at the wrist if need be. Of course, that would be choices for MELEE tools. What I would really want would be a good, strong fence, a 12 gauge with a couple of cases of buckshot and several six packs of really good beer. I ain't facing the end of the world sober!

IDK if that would work, but there is a weapon called the Monk's Spade that has a crescent axe on one end and a kind of shovel head on the other. or maybe a Boar Spear with one of the Lance heads on the other end?

I agree with your choices except that I would probably use the Condor Tactana or one of their other swords. I don't care for their company much, but their swords are thicker and cheaper than others. I'd probably make or commission a sword. I know that was an RMJ "hawk", but at first I thought it was the Schrade SCAXE4, which is more within my budget or I'd use my SOG Voodoo Hawks. The brands are not important, but since we're all here and you review all the good and new stuff, it would be nice to consider choices in the different weapon classes.

I like the spear but i would like my to have a detachment to shorten it quick to deal with narrow hallway attacks. Than my sword be a Samaria sword. Than I'll take two short handle axes with a box hammer at the end with the edge being half the length of the handle looking like a giant clever. But i do like your picks 😊.

Slashing swords are actually not ideal for zombies. U need a thrusting sword such as a Roman gladius or some point edge sword.

Another suggestion could be a Shovel it was the weapon of choice in the trench as it could be sharpened to make a hatchet the top can be sharpened for a spear also handle can vary in size for different tasks. I like to think of it as a Tool that can be made into slightly less effective then the actual tool tool. if you catch my drift.

I dunno, i have known axes with spikes on them are a bad idea ever since i failed an attack roll with one in AD&D and the vampire i was attempting to smash totally grabbed the axe (while it was still in my hands) and bashed me in the face with the spike, i would prefer a warhammer, that way if i do happen to fail my attack roll irl i wont get smashed in the face/chest with a zombie gore covered spike, plus a warhammer is sturdy, easy to maintain and can drop just about anything with even a miss, i have seen plenty of vids where an overstrike still crushed the skull just with the shaft.

Tac, would not the Cold Steel Bushman in spear mode be better than the boar spear because it can double as an effective bushcraft knife when not in spear mode, and it is easier to wield in spear mode than the CS BS (that kind of turned out humorously)? Just a thought. I think for my three I would for sure go with a spear of some kind, followed by the CS War Hammer, then followed by the CS Spetnaz Shovel (or equivalent). Honorable mention goes to a naval boarding cutlass or Roman Gladius sword (gotta have a sword in the mix somewhere).
