Some people will NOT change. This information is a big help to players whose rec partners rarely get to the NVZ out of fear. I'm wondering if wearing protective eye wear would assuage their worries.

This video has a lot of great information. For me it really helped to adjust the playback speed to 1.5, otherwise it just seems too drawn out. If you feel like the speech is too slow try the adjustment for yourself rather than miss out on some great instruction.

@@BestPickleballCoachIt baffles me because it just doesn't make any sense, it's like when someone hits the ball in baseball and then runs to 3rd base instead of 1st base. There seems to be a mental disconnect between what a player knows what they should be doing and what they actually do. I play with some people who also creep 2-3 feet into the transition zone on the serving side before the 3rd shot drop, and are then forced into an awkward shot on a deep return. They acknowledge they shouldn't be doing it but they still do it anyway. I just don't get it.

Great advice. When at the kitchen and we get an inbound lob, I go back with my partner while strikes the ball. I'm also able to communicate with easily him/her like: in, out, let it bounce. This is helpful with an inexperienced player.

Tony, I saw myself in your example of the blame game where I gave my opponent an easier than desired shot and they handcuffed or otherwise dominated my partner because of it. I have been binge listening to your Pickleball therapy podcast and it has helped me immensely with these “between the ears” weaknesses in my game.

The lob play seems opposite of some other training Ive seen, I thought player getting lobbed is suppose to open up and chase / overhand shot if possible. The strategy suggested in this video seems like it would be confusing, especially in open play setting.
@BestPickleballCoach

This is an area where there are differing philosophies. Ours is that the player crossing behind has a better chance of success. That said, playing in open / rec play makes this a challenge (like most strategies that require coordination :)).

I think his idea is perfect for partners who play together all the time. Open play is a different story, not sure how it would work.

I really like the idea of one's partner (running back cross-court) to chase down the deep lob when both are at the kitchen. I can see where this is safer for the older crowd so they don't trip while back pedaling and hit their head. I also like this strategy because the "ball chaser" can always keep their eye on the ball from the start of the chase to the swing. The "chaser" is probably a little further or has more distance to cover but can accelerate faster due to less of an angle to turn and also saves a ton of time compared to the situation where the partner directly in front of the lob turns the wrong direction, taking the most inefficient route to the ball while losing sight of it and probably ending up in a very awkward position to take a good shot...if they even get to it. If both partners are very fast and mobile, do the advantages listed above still apply? Do the pro's cover lobs this way and if no, why not? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hello Tim. Cover behind your partner allows the cover player to better track the ball and is an easier turn to address the ball.

The first mistake is very common at lower levels. A lady in our club plays back from the baseline like this all the time. Oddly enough it’ll work at lower level play sometimes but against better players it’s game over and if you’re her partner it’s unbelievably frustrating.

Hello Jake. This error will certainly be exploited by players with more knowledge and it results in a completely unfair fight.

If I play with a random player that does this - I cover more of the net by poaching- I mean if you are going to stay back because you think you can hit groundstrokes like Roger Federer, Im going to poach
