Thank you Dr. Grant for all you and your team do for us! Yes, we Southerns are well on our way for food plots but leagues behind in knowledge so please keep us in your prayers as we continue to embark and attempt to execute your tutelage. “Those too lazy to plow in the right season will have no deer or turkey to harvest” - Proverbs 20:4

Nice video Grant. Just picked up my seed at Green Cover, nice folks to purchase seed from. I like the bags they use too. Making sure my drill is calibrated for the summer blend now. Take care.

Wow - I feel much better now Grant! Thought you guys had already planted and crimped by now and like I mentioned, was feeling way behind up here in NW Lower Michigan. Going to wait another two weeks or so as Rye and Clover from the Fall Release continue to grow here.

Seed depth , going to try hand spreading seeds and rolling old crop over them this year . Know throwing small seeds will work but what about the big seeds in the mix ? Thanks

I noticed ballist weight on drill. Is this for a better penetrative depth for your soil type ?

Is there a way to terminate a crop and build soil without having a no till drill and a cripper for those of us that don’t have the money to buy this equipment

Can you explain how the different size seeds are planted out of the no till at the same time? I’m just confused how the process works

Different seed sizes have different shapes and textures. I simply calibrate with the blend and all works fine! Farmers been doing this for decades.

This is probably a stupid question, but if my soil is rough shape and I wanted to "speed" things up repairing it, could I run a couple cycles of cover crop, and crimping instead of cover crops, crimp, and food plot cycles?

@@grantwoods9984 Thank you! Mostly erosion and dead soil is my concern. The disking would be good to make everything even.

You might want to consider this: fall cover crop, disk into soil in spring, spring cover crop, disk into soil in fall, fall cover crop, crimp in spring and then food plot.

That is what I did in a hard clay plot I now successfully use as a market garden. Get that organic matter into the soil several cycles in a row and then migrate into the methods mentioned in this video.

@@grantwoods9984 agree it’s the most valuable resource. Kickstarting the process in a new (damaged plot per OP) by tilling under green manure for a growing season or two can be valuable, though, to create a loose soil base with plenty of organic matter to improve success of future no-till efforts. The nearly constant presence of a living root structure will keep the mycorrhiza fungi going strong which is critical.

Frank - Great question! After season I use a wire brush to remove any rust, then spare the entire trap with a rust prevention paint like Rustoleum

How do you prevent from crimping turkey nests in the late spring? We are in southern Mississippi and are worried about the timing
@GrowingDeerTV
@GrowingDeerTV 2 ай бұрын
That's possible, but i've seen that once in my career. If there's good habitat on the property, it's not an issue. There's a very strong turkey population at my place and I've crimped or years.
