I thought it was April-Fools again. WHY would any builder of a guitar run a knob over a piece of the hardware? it's too ugly from that and I would pass on it while head-scratching. it would be my multi-task of the day, scratching & passing.

Funny, now that Gibson sued Dean, they're starting to make their models look more like Deans. They even made and brought an iconic Dean style blueburst V to court which they never offered.

@Poopa Scoopa As far as i know Gibson didnt make any V´s with flametops, body, neck and headstock binding or without a pickguard until after Dean had made them like that and that Gibson split headstock is laughable compared to the Dean V headstock.

Korina is not an expensive wood. Reverend uses it, and their guitars don't cost a fortune.

It's more of a Gibson thing. Since it was originally made from Korina, it is considered a special thing. So your paying MASSIVE money for the name Gibson and original wood...yea I don't get it either.

Guitar prices are insane these days. I couldn't pay some of those prices if I could afford it. Really insane when you pay 2 or 3 grand for one and get a gig purse!

The prices of Gibsons are stupid. Buy Firefly V guitar, swap ( really not needed) components, and have a killer ax under 350$ that plays as good or even better than any of the Gibsons shown here. Budget guitars will take over soon, they’re being made better and better every day. Plenty of money left over to buy all the drugs you want.

@@highvolts6620 The Firefly SG I had was a far inferior guitar to the Squier Bullet Tele I had at the time. I agree the prices of Gibsons are ridiculous, but there’s no way a Firefly neck will feel as good as a Gibson or anything half the price.

@@TylerJohnstonGuitar My son gifted me the Firefly Explorer in Blueberry Burst a few months ago and I can say I couldn’t believe this budget guitar. Super comfortable neck with ball end frets. Plays like a champ. Compared with my sons Bill Kelliher Golden Axe Explorer…….it’s not far behind it at all. And I haven’t even made modifications to it yet.

The les paul at 5:58 reminds me of Marc Bolan's les paul. It's one of my favourites; standard body with natural/orange finish and custom neck... one of a kind and amazing guitar. I would love to see a deep dive on one of those

I'm surprised you've never looked over the Gibson Custom Shop LP Special Double Cut "Figured". This video reminded me of it because it's a blend of 50s-60s slab double cuts with rosewood and dots, but also a little bit of Les Paul Standard with humbuckers, ABR-1, a maple top and binding.

Wtf!! So they lawsuit dean and charge almost 8k for a v that looks sloppy. Yet dean can put out a better looking v with pickups that compete for 600 bucks... Gibson sucks...

I'm still searching for my 74 75 Flying V....its natural/ blonde with a volute,white bobbin Bill Lawrence flat blade pickups,a micro switch and white plastics. I think I sold it to Eric at Abalone vintage.

Sorry, Trogly. I'm calling "Gibson BS" when you say they're justified in charging a premium for a white finish because it's "harder to get perfect." Fender makes white guitars finished in - gasp - nitrocellulose, and doesn't charge any more for them. No other manufacturer charges more for white. Gibson charges ridiculous prices for all sorts of things simply because their customers are willing to accept it, like the nonsense of only using korina on $10k Flying Vs when Reverend uses it on everything. I own a few Gibsons and like them, but I'm getting really tired of people spreading nonsense like, "it costs more for the Custom Shop to get a white finish right."

That first Flying V standard from the music zoo was pretty cool and loved the headstock with binding etc.... The Tony Iommi SG was awesome too! Wish I would have bought one back in the day I remember when those came out. But my all-time favorite tonight I would have to say was that 1957 reissue Les Paul Custom in the TV white finish, absolutely gorgeous!

That 70s V, pickguard covers 90% of the top- crazy. I prefer to see the top, and as little plastic as possible. The t.v. whites lookin' sharp, and the Antique natural. I like Trog dude lurking while hunting, lucky my budget is way below his, so no worry of pick pocket.

The 50s customs don’t have a top like the regular customs. They are a solid mahogany body that has a top carve, not a glued on top.

Natural finished Les Paul is indeed gorgeous. Reminds me of Mick Ronson's LP. I play a blonde natural ES-339 and that is the most beautiful guitar I've ever owned. When they age, they look even better.

There's a reason why they stopped using them. Same with the '52 trapeze wrap tail. Historically correct isn't always a good thing.

Love V's. But now please document an interesting, unique, affordable (sub $2k) V. I think it will appeal to the masses and, heck, it'll just be another feather in your cap on your way to documenting more Gibson's than anyone else. It's the one year only 2016 Flying V Pro. Bound top. Bound fretboard. Gloss top. Satin neck. 57 Classic. Burstbucker 3. It's so darn unique in the Gibson V family. Sort of reminiscent of "The V".

The V that I had Mike at BD guitars build for me blows that Custom Gibson V away, and the finish is also a factory burst, but looks much better on mine, plus it's a Korina body and neck with a quilted maple top

Coming from the working musician side of the house, I've always found the ABR6 to be superior. And the harmonica bridge was even better( but I don't have any long term experience with it.

I would have moved the strap button on the explorer too, being on the back is stupid, and they don't balance correctly. The 1984 explorer is the superior design.

I like this guitar. ( the Flying V) ..but as you say, some 400 inlays would really top it out. The absence of the plastic 'pick guard' is a huge plus... the wood alone is far better 👍👍

Yeahhh 3 "new" guitars from Gibson!!!....2 flying v's and a Les Paul....real new lol...also the guys who fish the abalone for Ur binding..do so in shark infested waters many of which don't come home to spend the pennies they receive...it's soo bad the sharks have learnt to WAIT FOR THE ABALONE FISHERMEN...and I haven't even mentioned that it's an endangered species....

Not a fan of the V ,but yeah... that'll do nicely. Don't care... I'd take that custom in a second depending on how it sounds. After all... that's really the important thing. Either one... use to pick em up , from a pawn shop, in the 70s for $250.

Silverburst flying V!!! Yesssss. Brent Hinds said in an interview they never made a silverburst flying V before he custom ordered his back in the early 2000's but Trogly has set the record straight as his vintage stolen V was from the 70's. Sorry for rambling but this is something I've thought about before. Brent Hinds, great guitar player, not a Gibson historian.
