One of my favorite videos ever. The content was good as usual, but I very much liked the approach of adding a tool to your shot making. I liked the addition of the "why I am adding this to my game", and the idea that it is a skill in development. You could do a follow-up video that features the same shots, but highlights the refinements you've made as well as problem points you've encountered (and probably overcome). Thanks, I'll be watching this one twice.

This is so good! The two handed backhand dinks, drops, and drives is what I’ve been drilling on and slowly implementing into games. When drilling you’re so right in starting with just your left hand when dinking and then two hands and it translates into the drops and drives. Offensive transition zone, yes, I like it! Overhead angles, left to right has been working good, opponents don’t expect it. Your content and videos are so good. Thanks so much.

Your videos are absolutely my favorites. I learn so much from you guys. I write these things down and try to get a lesson with a pro to help me with it. I’ve been stuck in a 3.5 level for over 2 years now and I want to be able to progress to 3.75 to be able to play in some more groups. Sometimes I feel like my age has a lot to do with it but it really shouldn’t. I can still move on the court and can hit all the shots required. I have a 2 handed and 1 handed backhand. I usually use the 1 handed when running for a ball and both for dinks and drops. Love to hit overheads and will try to get more angle on them. I Miss that tennis alley for that. Sometimes I feel a good overhead down the middle might be better for me and let them fight for it. Keep up the good work guys!

Great video. I love how you both say they’re shots you are working on and a work in progress. It makes you very relatable. I’ve been working on all the backhand shots mentioned since November. A big thing I had to get over was thinking I wasn’t ready or consistent enough to use the shots vs better players in open play and even in my next tournament. I tell myself that it’s a journey, I can’t be afraid to make mistakes. They’ll happen but i’lll be better off in the long run. I’m not as consistent as I would like, but I like the direction I’m headed.

Good content. A short while back, I had shoulder problems and my choice was either to try to develop my left hand or give up playing for a month. I played left-handed. Now that I can play on the right side again I'm doing exactly what you're talking about. I find that I'm taking what I learned playing leftie and applying it to the two-handed backhand from the right. Drives, drops, and dinks. Now I'm feeling a lot more confident and consistent returning any ball from the backhand.

It's interesting to hear Caden say that he was a left handed thrower who hits right handed overheads; I'm the opposite, and just this week I was thinking about whether it makes sense to switch hands for an overhead when I have time. I often end up hitting a left-handed backhand overhead, which doesn't tend to have much pace on it, but I can place it well, so I trust it. Thanks, as always, for the excellent instruction.

Great content as always! For the 2hbh do you guys have additional tips on getting the right hand to be more passive? I've tried playing almost exclusively lefty on the backhand side to get the left hand motion down but once I switch to 2h the right hand still takes over. I've thought about maybe wearing a write brace or something try to get the right hand to act more as a pivot point than directional control (probably a bad habit in tennis that's coming over)

It is tough, but one thing that has helped is to not really “hold” the paddle at all with my right hand. On the scale of grip pressure 1-10, my left is about a 4 or 5, and my right is a .5

Briones man your vids help me so much!! I've added topspin on my dinks because of your lessons. Question: is it ok to Speedup on a ball that is below the top of the net level? I noticed on your backhand Speed-up Dinks that it appeared you were below the top of the net when you sped up. Is that because the topspin arcs over the net allowing you to do that? Or do you recommend never speeding up if below top for the net?
@BrionesPickleball

At higher levels, everyone speeds up from below the net. Good footwork and technique is necessary to do this consistently

It’s way more efficient to get topspin by adding the left hand. With a single handed backhand, you would have to use a lot of your wrist, which makes it that much harder to hit consistent topspin
