@jwcci There are a lot more people wanting to learn to use the oxygen acetylene torch than I would have thought. The oxy/ace torch is one of the most useful tools for a home shop. It is a multi-purpose tool. Many of the newer welding and cutting tools are single purpose. As much as I like it, my plasma cutter will only cut.

Carburizing flame. Technically you are correct, although having been around welding, welders and welding supply companies for over 40 years I have never heard that term used. Carbonizing is the term that is used.

@DCBillW I put the flux video up on KZfaq. You definitely need flux to braze. I use wire brushing to clean copper. For cleaning copper I use a wire brush on a motor. However you do it, the main point is to remove any oxidization. A basic rule is that clean metal will always braze better than oxidized or dirty metal.

I'd suggest "Brazing with the Oxygen Acetylene Torch" if you want to do the type of metal sculpture that I do. For general restoration and repair work I'd suggest "Oxygen Acetylene Brazing".

great video. only correction is can make is its a carburizing flame, also known as a reducing flame. not a carbonizing flame.

I wear dark brazing glasses when brazing. The brazing glasses are down when I light and adjust the torch.

I use 5 llb acetylene and 6 llb oxygen. Of course it depends on the type of work one is doing.

actually i use my torch in my small engine shop and have to braze and weld small parts from time to time when my mig cannot

When brazing thin copper sheet to thin copper sheet, with a LFB Bare AWS A5.27. Should I be using a flux? I'm getting some bad results with and without. Any tips on cleaning the copper prior to brazing? Thanks!
