Hey there!
If you're a recording engineer or a self-recording artist, it's not uncommon to have to mix your vocals into a stereo (or two-track) instrumental.
This presents quite a few challenges:
1 - Stereo instrumentals are often very compressed and limited, leaving no dynamic range to SQUEEZE your vocal in.
2 - You have ZERO control over the individual instruments, which makes it impossible to carve out space for your vocal mix.
3 - Often you can't get your mix as loud as if you had stems - that's because you need to keep your instrumental low to make room for the voice.

My top 3 plug-in 2 track instrumental. 0. Gain/trim - bring down the volume on the instrumental 1. Neutron transient shaper (no side chain)- to bring some hi-hat and snare due to instrumental got compressed and limiting 2. Fab MB (side chain-vocal) - same as yours but since vocal is mono so I will put my MB only affect on the Mid only not on stereo 3. Waves Center (no side chain) - bring down instrumental center 1-2db and upward the side like 1-2db, creating room for the vocal

Very nice! Using the Sidechain in Mono on the Center channel will definitely preserve some information in the sides!

Good I get phase issues when I add reverb to my vocals , the Pro Mb in the stereo side chain will definitely be the cause of that

Off the mixing courses I've done not one has mentioned side-chaining with these VST tools it's always been use a compressor and I could never tell if I had done it correctly - Thank you Jacob

Great video, love track spacer appreciate the info on the filtering! Just subbed, would love to see a video on uploading to streaming with a two track song especially KZfaq, no matter what I do my music is always so quiet due to the normalization. Just found your page maybe you already have that, again great content!

Hey! To be honest, I don’t think there’s a secret to it. I try and get my songs, the loudest possible, usually the final master sits between -8 and -6 LUFS. This question may be better suited for a proper mastering engineer, I suggest looking up Panorama Mastering. An Australian friend of mine who makes great content!

11:10 With the Fabfilter Pro Q, you're not entirely correct. It's a dynamic eq. You can even sidechain it to another track or do an internal sidechain. If you toggle the dynamic eq section, it can act like a multiband eq compressor.. Great video. I use trackspacer the same way as you mentioned ✊🏾

Correct! But with the classic EQ it wouldn’t give the same result. You could use dynamic eq in sidechain with Pro Q AND even sidechain with Soothe for similar effects. Thanks for watching!

I dont know which FF Pro MB Version you are using because i can´t see any KEY INPUT option on my VST Plugin and i am using Logic Pro X

For logic users - I’m not 100% sure where the key input is on the plug-in windows. The key input area in my videos are pro tools specific. Do you see, on the top right of the Pro MB window a “Side Chain” input?

It can also be done with c4 no problem you just don’t have the notch bands !

Instrumental/Beat is just a stereo track, and it's only going to the mix bus!

Kinda confusing where you put those plug ins are. The pro mb was in the all vocal track and the next two plug ins were put as an insert in the track?

They were all inserted on the instrumental, track and side chained from the vocal!
