In today's video, I would like to tell you a little about the three most common audio codecs, through which sound is transmitted via Bluetooth to wireless speakers or headphones.
The audio codec is a specialized program that compresses or decompresses digital audio data in accordance with the audio format of the audio file.
The main task of the audio codec is to provide an audio signal with a given quality and with the smallest possible size.
Thanks to this compression, the amount of space required for storing audio data is reduced.
And so, the first and most common audio codec is sbc (Low complexity sub band codec)
This is the simplest audio codec supported by equipment such as a phone / smartphone, wireless headphones, or wireless speakers.
In principle, it is the standard for transferring music via Bluetooth for such devices.
The bitrate of this codec varies in the range from 192 to 320 kbps.
The upper frequency limit in this codec reaches 19 kHz.
With a relatively average sound, the quality of the connection with such a codec is one of the most reliable. Interrupts begin at fairly decent distances. And also in the presence of a large number of obstacles.
And thanks to this property, most manufacturers make their wireless headphones with support for the sbc codec.
The next audio codec is aac (Advanced Audio Coding) - in terms of the quality of music transfer, it is much better than the same sbc. But not in all smartphones, this codec provides high-quality sound, it all depends on how the manufacturer himself configured his work. It so happens that the sound using this codec becomes worse than if you turn on the standard sbc.
This, by the way, is the main audio codec used in apple smartphones, in addition to sbc.
Thus, on epl smartphones, it is best to use the aac codec.
The bitrate in it is the lowest of all today's representatives: only 252 kbit / s, but even with such compression, the sound quality can be at the level of the next audio codec in this list - this is a desire for many today in tws headphones - aptx from Qualcomm. Here it is more accurate to even say not one audio codec, but their whole family.
Qualcomm has developed its audio codecs that provide the perfect balance between the amount of transmitted information and sound quality, which is actually aptx, aptx ll and aptx hd.
Compared to sbc, these codecs can transmit more data in 1 second of time.
For example, ordinary aptx is capable of transmitting a 16-bit 44.1 kHz signal with a bit rate of 352 kbit / s, but aptx hd - it can already 24 bits and 48 kHz with a bit rate of up to 576 kbit / s.
Last year, Qualcomm introduced another APTX Adaptive codec, which essentially replaced aptx and aptx hd and represents a bit of average between the two codecs.
The maximum aptx adaptive bitrate is 420 kbps.
Unfortunately, the reliability and stability of the connection when using the aptx codec is extremely small. At short distances, you should not have problems, but clippings may appear already a few meters away. They are also inevitable with the appearance of obstacles to signal transmission.
It is better not to use such codecs if you buy headphones for running.
There is another audio codec that is gradually gaining momentum, it is developed by Sony - LDAC, but even despite the high quality of the sound produced, its popularity is not very great.
