Me too! I picked up pottery again in 2017 and Simon was my main teacher on youtube. Thank you Simon for so generously sharing your expertise and your life! Agreed on Moringa

79 now with a Drop Foot and a messed up left hand so not potting any more LOL . Shimpo still in studio with a bat setup using studs you could screw in the top of the wheel head. Bats were 8 inch squares and 12 inch rounds. Absolutely everything got thrown on a bat and tooled in a tooling gizmo made out of plastic. I was a one woman band doing production LOL. Wound up at 54 living in a remote county on the Tennessee line where Gensing and Turkey Tail mushrooms grow. But a Stones throw from Downtown Asheville NC . My large account was Mountain Made at the Grove Arcade. Did a lot of Slip Carving with a Vine and Leaf pattern. Life was good. Take care ❤😊

Visites last week the pottery and museum of your grandfather Bernard in St. Ives. They let me try the special wheel, you use yourself. Lovely experience.

I learnt to throw with your videos on a stand-up kick wheel. I had to learn all over again after I bought an electric wheel as I thought I was speedy gonzalas. I wouldn’t put anything in the kiln for months until I could master a cylinder. You’re a great teacher.

I've been recovering from covid and I have binged watched all your videos and I must say, your company has been very much appreciated. I'm 6 days in to pottery as a new hobby and I'm loving it. Sadly, covid paused this for a bit but I'm getting over it and will resume. I expect to review your videos when I'm back on my feet, but I do feel like, with your guidance, that I have learned a lot already and looking forward to applying it soon. Thanks again! - Brian

Hi Simon! Went to the October workshop. Getting ready to invest in my own wheel and enjoying the various reviews you’ve done. Still practicing my 12 oz 5 inch cylinders! I’ve got my first wood firing share in June. Hope to visit you in a workshop again soon. Joyce

I've tried wetting the rim the other day - worked beautifully! Thank you. I'll try to use that method now instead of placing clay to hold the pot (it was always ruining the perfectly rounded rim)

Agree, tap centering is an important pottery skill to learn, saves so much time, I use a clay bat pad, for batts if I need to use one, but I always use the "Leach" methods, they never fail me, 😊it Just needs some practice everyone, so, keep practicing!! 😀

I had large 15 inch homemade bats that I would throw a clay bat pad . To remove the bat I could give it a twist. Fluff up the clay bat rings and put another bat on it. Good for platters and low large serving bowls and casseroles.

My bat pins are stuck so I throw off batt, but I do lift the pots off unless they have a very wide base, in which case I let them dry out a bit first.

Tapping center is a Zen thing. You are best not thinking but being. After all throwing and tooling are actually Moving Meditation. Actually persuing Yoga or Tai Chi could be helpful. As Sufi Sam used to say Thinking is Stinking LOL. Whirling is self centering.

Yes overthinking a bad idea, head getting in the way of heart, (((feel the motion))),

@@suzannefurman3957 Great meeting you here at Simon's party. Clay since 1979, not always on the wheel, currently 1000 pots a year. Don't know why never tapped. Cheat by placing centered in wheel ring marks, spin, adjust and go. Simons so got it with why all the bats even with production potters? Then the generic stamps thing?

?? Some people maybe, bit of a generalization I would say. Less is more and better! Too many people buying generic tools and stamps etc, computer generated , laser cut, lack of creativity for sure…. But it is 2024 and people “want it now” , no patience !
