In this video I go through 3 major reasons you should NOT buy Triumphs new Scrambler 400x. It's a great bike, but not all it's cracked up to be.

Just stumbled on your channel love the vibe and absolutely brilliant video that was my thoughts after looking at one in person in currently looking at the 900’s myself :) mainly ride older Nortons from 1927-67 on my other channel so always interesting. I ended up having to reject 2x 390s and a 411 full of issues so really fancying a 900 at the moment :) hope you are having a great time with the Scrambler.

Thanks for watching and the kind words. Glad you enjoyed. I am absolutely loving the 900. It's a great motor in a nice light feeling package.

I can see why you are being unhappy for Triumph to call the 400x a scrambler. Because 900 is double the price and it is a premium bike. But lets talk about practicality rather than just looks. 900 scrambler isn’t really a true scrambler when you compare it with other brands on the market like the Ducati or the Fantic. They have got longer suspension travel, higher ground clearance and they are even much lighter (150-180kilos). Lets see if the 400x fits in this category or not. Scrambler 400x: Higher ground clearance: 196mm ✅ Longer suspension travel: 150mm front and 150mm rear ✅ Seat height: 835mm ✅ Weight: 179kg wet ✅ Scrambler 900: Ground clearance: 157mm ❌ Suspension travel:120mm front and rear ❌ Seat height: 790mm ❌ Weight: 223kg wet ❌ 400x might not be as good as a dirt bike but it sure can tackle different terrains without a problem. You can go places on the 400x. You can only make it to the local cafe on your 900 ☕️ **I am not a Triumph owner**

I downgraded from a 150 hp sports-tourer to the Triumph 400X and it just fits me so well. Characterful engine, fun acceleration, good ergonomics, runs on practically no gas and super cheap. Even if I end up getting a bigger bike again, I think I'm gonna keep the Triumph on the side because its just such a nice, cheap ride.

I came from a 2012 Street Triple R, had 2 sportsters and a 96" Dyna before that, love my 400x over all of them. Lots of light to medium off-road near me and it does great.

Not sure what you were expecting for 5k even though you said it's good for the price of 5k...it's like you already knew before you rode it that you wouldn't get one because of what you get for a 5k bike, even though this 5k bike gives you a better bike than other 5k bike competitors.... Yep I'm confused too lol
@Dailycozwerks
@Dailycozwerks Ай бұрын
I specifically said in the video that I decided not to buy it before ever riding it. My ride on it was after already choosing a different bike. The test ride just confirmed I made the right decision. If you look at it directly next to bikes like the Trident, the extra 3k spread over the average buyers 5-year loan starts to look well worth it from a quality for money perspective. Also, keep in mind I have owned a half dozen mini motos at this point. I am no stranger to cheap bikes, but even a $3800 Super Cub feels nicer and higher spec.

I own a 400X and love it so admittedly I am biased but I have also been on many other bikes and cannot think of any that even come close to the 400x at its price point. You mentioned fit and finish issues but never provided any specific criticism. Yes the thumb controls are not top of the line but they work well. Shocks, brakes etc are not top of the line but they are all good quality...at this price point you are not going to get top of the line. Accessories - are always hard to get for a new model (I am still waiting for several) but they are coming out. Expectations - walking into aToyota dealership expecting a Porsche maybe a bit unreasonable - both can be great cars you just have to know what you are getting. Same can be said comparing a 400x to bikes that are significantly higher priced or have a different mission profiles. If the 400x meets your use profile you will be hard pressed to find a better bike in my opinion.

@Dailycozwerks Ай бұрын
I respect your points, but it's not walking into Toyota dealership and expecting a Porsche. It's walking into a Triumph dealership and expecting a Triumph... They are a boutique brand that should reflect that on all of their products. Otherwise, the same 5k can take you really far in a Honda dealership. I think they would have better served their core customer base by releasing this bike at 6.5k and making it a bit nicer. Much like KTM does with their 400 class bikes. I do think its a great bike, but based on the 6 Triumphs, I've owned as well as literally 115 motorcycles I've purchased at this point (I keep a running list) This is a step backwards in progression for the brand. The 660s as their entry point was a better representation of the Triumph name.

genuinely appreciate the straight talking critiques you've made on the Triumph 400's. Some of the things you stated are not really a concern to me like the aftermarket parts, and your critique about soft low RPM torque is actually a positive for my confidence as a new rider about to take MSF. Compared to your video, just about every other influencer video is either pompom cheerleading these bikes or avoiding firm criticism. Some of your points do make me have a stronger consideration for the Speed 400 despite the aesthetic of the Scrambler 400x drawing me in.

Thanks for watching. I am genuinely shocked that more reviewers aren't mentioning the negatives. I would definitely suggest the Speed over the Scrambler. You could always add some aesthetic enhancements as they become available to better suit your tastes.

@@Dailycozwerks I like the capability of the scrambler around Louisiana because we do have our share of messy roads and some that aren't even paved. Adding radiator and stump guards plus throwing a set of Metzler Tourance shoes on the speed 400 will get me most of the way to that aesthetic

I would hope people looking to buy one of these know all of this beforehand. They are being produced out of Bajaj so the quality absolutely wasn't going to be the same, it's a brand new model globally so there aren't going to be many accessories yet though there definitely some out now and how much power it has. Not entirely sure what you were hoping to get out of this bike I guess. Now that being said, as an owner some things that people really need to be aware of right now: 1. You have to wait for it to cycle when you turn it on. People are having issues with the ECU in regards to that. 2. Mine has randomly died on me at lower speeds/RPMs MANY times. Sometimes it struggles to restart. Not great when you're in traffic. 3. It has issues shifting. Mine has multiple times not wanted to get into gear both upshifting and downshifting. Again not great in traffic. Others are having those issues as well. I really wanted to like this bike more. Overall it's still absolutely a fun bike. Super nimble and quick for a 400 single and looks great but I'm already looking into trading it. Sadly I have some Evotech parts arriving tomorrow too.

Great points , The scram 400x is a 1st generation motorcycle ,for a group of people who wanted a lower bar of entry , where they wanted to try the brand and then they have a lot of option up the ladder . BTW there are a lot of after market parts available in india or other asian markets , and the new himalayan 450 has all the same negatives you mentioned , quality , aftermarket etc . Having ridden the 1200x , I could definitely say you got a lot of performance that a sub 500 cc would never be able to give you .

I like your style. Rapid fire, know what you're talking about, explain things really well. I especially like the way you described the engine characteristics...first two gears too short, poor low-end torque, and have to get up to 6,000+ to feel the torque & power kick in. I hate this characteristic...kind of like the KTM 390. Thanks for the great explanation...I'm passing on the Triumph. I'm an old guy who doesn't have the strength any more to lug around and pick up huge adventure bikes. I'm looking for a lighter and capable bike in the 400-500cc niche that would be excellent in my big town and also good on the mountain dirt roads. Hoping for a Royal Enfield Scram 440 with tubeless alloy wheels. Any ideas for a bike that fits my needs?

@Dailycozwerks 28 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching. I appreciate the kind words. Pending how comfortable you are with taller bikes I would look at the DRZ400 and Crf300 Rally they'll both outpower the Scram411, but ya can't really beat that Royal Enfield price or that low seat height.

I want I want I want!!!!!!! What did you expect it's a brand new model from the ground up its triumphs biggest seller and will win many awards it's a global hit and is amazing value for money I have the scrambler 400x I preferred the speed 400 ride but was to cramped for my height I don't regret my purchase the quality is very good I agree the 1st and 2nd gear are low but there is plenty enough power I thrash mine around all day I do plan to change the sprocket apparently the speed 400 fits I've just ordered after market parts from Thailand like you said triumph don't know when there parts are arriving there's also plenty out already in India where the bikes were launched 6 month or so back the bike is very economical remember its off road styled not a off roader it looks stunning all singles vibrate I have no issue cruising up to 120 km also there is no motorcycle in the world that can compete with it on value for money and branding
@Dailycozwerks
@Dailycozwerks Ай бұрын
Glad you are enjoying it! I definitely think its right for many, just not right for me. I can relate on the Speed 400 feeling a bit more cramped. The Scrambler definitely fit me better. The big problem with lots of aftermarket coming out of India and Thailand is shipping to us folks in the US. Shipping will often cost 2-3 times the amount of the parts. We really need US or European distributors to make it financially viable.

I just had my heart set on A triumph scrambler for putzing around locally. When the thought process began, I was considering selling my GS and getting the 1200XE or 900. I couldn't bear parting with the GS quite yet, so I thought the $6k 400 was a decent compromise. The price leaves a lot of room in the budget for accessories and aftermarket stuff...when available. I'm in no rush. The stores around here can't keep them in stock. The one I bought just came in yesterday.

I own one, I needed a buget bike. It’s a great bike, I understand the aftermarket concerns, but it’s a great bike fit and finish and power delivery is great! A simple gear change changes everything. You can compare a 400 power to big bore power.

Replying to both your comments in one here, but yeah, getting parts can be a nightmare. Hopefully, yours ships soon. I really like the 1200 motor and usability, but the 900s size appealed to me more since the majority of my miles will be on-road in the city. The Speed Twin 1200 was reeeeally tempting, though.

@Dailycozwerks
@Dailycozwerks Ай бұрын
@regregor Overall, I think it's better than a lot of bikes at the same price point, but having owned 5 of them long term, it's not the typical Triumph quality. They clearly had to cut corners to come in at that price. The levers connection point was a bit flimsy. The exhaust heat shield and other assorted covers are thin and tin feeling, the hand controls are also much lower quality than normal. Paintwork however is still really nice. It's totally fair that they cut corners to meet the price, but I just want people to know what to expect.

In Brazil, the CG 160(24k dol) with no ABS is almost the same price as the speed(29kdol), here there is no way to say that it is not worth the price. I actually prefer riding it. scrambler 1200x(100kdol) here costs 3.5x the value of the 400x Note: we cannot convert the currency, our minimum wage is the same as yours. Yes, here is BR 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
