I agree. People review guns as if they are Louis Vutton bags or something. I’ve found many times that the trigger that feels great dry firing isn’t what I always shoot best at the range.

LOL, no doubt! In real-world, max-stress, life-or-death sit, 99% of people are going to be hammering the trigger with enough force to punch through a brick wall.

I agree. I rented the Max 9 and the Plus. Yes, dry firing the Plus had a better trigger. At 15' I got very similar groups in two different locations. Couldn't tell a difference while actually firing the pistols.

Yeah, your average carry gun has a pretty trash trigger overall. But it really won't matter in an actual incident. If anything, I want my carry gun to have a heavier trigger within reason. People treat little baby guns like they are 2011 or tuned CZ. Different tools for different purposes.

When the ist gen shield came out I was getting my permit and did hours and hours of internet research because I had to find my first pistol. I picked the S&W 9mm shield. Many years and many other guns later, I still love my shield. I put an Apex trigger in it, better sights, and talon grip over time and prefer this over many.

Yep. My first carry gun also. Considered upgrading the trigger and sights as well, but sold it for the 365 d/t those things and capacity. Then moved to the XL. A beautiful carry gun. I recently returned to the Shield Plus PC with 4” barrel and added the Spartan sights. I love everything about it.

Yup. I had a really hard time choosing between these two top contenders for a micro-9 carry pistol. I chose the Shield Plus (with optics cut) because I found it for $465 with 3 extra magazines ($100 worth of mags) and a carry bag as part of a S&W promotional package. That was too good to pass up as it also comes with tritium sights. I'll be eventually replacing the barrel with a Faxxon threaded barrel and putting a Micro-Comp of some sort on it. Then perhaps next year sometime I'll stick a nice circle-dot sight on it.

The 14+1 flush mag of the P365X (with a Magguts +2 extender kit), the extended beaver tail and slight mag well, and front rail (even though it's proprietary) do it for me. Obviously, everyone needs a firearm that works for them. For me, for EDC, it's the P365X (not XL, because I pocket carry).

I just got the Shield Plus. Great gun! It's not quite as accurate as the original high-cap mini...my Glock 26, but it's trigger and shootability is excellent! I did have to install some Hogue wrap-around grips to keep the grip surface from wearing me raw while in my IWB holster. I appreciate S&W using an already proven design rather than trying to re-engineer the wheel. Best new gun in its class!

Nice review I have the P356XL I agree with every point about the XL had to replace Mag release with Armory Craft to help get more leverage, grip is small had to buy Hogue grip to fill my small hands, and the trigger may as well be a two stage trigger mushhhhhhhy! If the gun wasn’t only 6 months old I would look elsewhere but stuck for now.

The XL (not the basic 365 or X) is really in the sweet spot for a sub-compacts. It can be used as a carry, home defense, or serious range gun with 12+1. It shoots extremely flat and the X-ray sights are second to none. The trigger takes some getting used to, but once you master it, you’ll wonder how you ever did without it. You can use at least 2 different brands of optics plus it has a rail and although it’s proprietary, there is an adapter. I seriously looked at the Shield plus after having purchased a .380 Shield EZ for my wife which she absolutely loves to shoot. I have several 3.1 inch barrel handguns and the 3.6 plus the other pros I mentioned about the XL, pretty much made the choice an easy one for me.

You can tell how much you subjectively prefer the smith, when you compared it’s reset to the snap of a carrot. Sure, the break is clean, but It literally has the quietest and most muted/mushy reset of all of them. The reset on the p365xl trigger is at least super springy and audible. I have a Shield 1.0 and a Shield Plus. The safety on my new Plus is extremely hard to move to set or release it. I had to use a screwdriver to move it to off the first time. Have worked it on and off many, many times, mostly having to use a golf tee as it was wearing out my thumb. I’ve read comments from other owners who had the same problem. The safety on my Shield 1.0 moves easily on or off with thumb pressure. I’ll be contacting S&W about it.

Jerry Miculek just released a video on the Shield Plus and his trigger pull test showed 6-7 lbs versus what yours showed at 4.10ish. So either you did some trigger work, maybe a good polish? Or they are all over the place with regard to what you can expect from the factory. I have to say I had the pleasure of shooting both and the only thing I personally didn't like on the Shield was having to be cautious not to pinch the ever living shit out of my hand when reloading due to the 2 finger front grip. The back of the grip is extended enough to manage, just not sure how well that grip works for big hands in a bad situation. Thats the only thing that pushes me more so to the Glock 43X,48 or the Sig 365XL. Nice video

I turned my Reg 365 into a 365 X with the Wilson Combat XL grip mod and my XL into a Macro TacOps. My XL FCC and Slide on the Macro grip mod with the #1 backstrap made it, to my taste, the most comfortable feeling pistol I've ever shot. Can't go wrong with the Shield Plus. It's cheaper, has better grip texture, and the stock trigger is best in it's class. It just sucks that you have to shell out so much more money for the Performance version if you want a longer slide that's comparable to the P365 XL. I'm hoping in the future S&W releases a longer slide/barrel version of the Shield Plus because the grip size is already perfect to me.

You have really confused me here. You are judging a weapon on every criteria other than what it is made for. This is a conceal carry weapon not a target pistol made to shoot on the range all day. You did not say a single word about carry comfort or about weight. In a CCW you care not for trigger break, creep or reset unless they are just horrible. You don't care about it "fitting your hand" unless it is just terrible -- Because when you NEED IT you are not going to be shooting it for very long. You care about CARRYING it so that you do have it when you need it. . You totally and completely missed the point.

I agree with you and yet can find 3 reasons why the M&P might not be better. 1. The optics version of the M&P has the PC moniker so that they can gig you on the price. 2. Sig has a much better customer service. 3. The older M&P shield was an outstanding pistol for the price; the latest version is way over-priced considering the trade In or resell value when it comes time to select the next latest and greatest pistol. With all of that said, I think the M&P is the better pistol.

Sold the S&W 2.0 and went with the 365XL instead of upgrading to the plus. Like it more for me. 1) I have small to medium hands. 2) mag release sticks out too much for me on the shield 3) the flat faced trigger feels better on the sig to me too lol I don't pull triggers slow. And 12 to 15 rounds is hard to beat for the size also. The red dot option and night sights are also another reason the sig shines. To each their own.

Question why the Shield Plus?? Answer: The real and only reason is that it is the newest shinny object. WHY? because any modern gun today (Glock 43/43x, Sig 365/365XL, regular Shield/Shield Plus, Beretta APX Carry, Hellcat, even a Bersa Thunder .380 ACP, etc.) will work well for conceal carry and training/practice makes it work even better. Keep what gun you have now and do not worry about _CAPACITY_ in a concealed carry firearm as in concealed self-defense shootings FBI street data states on average *_2 to 4 shots are fired_* no matter how many "bad" guys there were. Relax, *_stay calm, and carry concealed._* *And:* Happy upcoming New Year!

I love it, and I really want to snag the shield plus too haha. The shields trigger was amazing and the grip was awesome. But I felt the same about the p365. Also the p365 came with night sights and I liked the stippling and grip shape and size a tad more (although the shield was great and comfortable too) Ultimately it came down to the size as this was for edc. I’ll probably snag a shield plus at some point too. Either way I’m glad with my decision. Neither are a bad gun, the p365 ergonomics just fit me a little better also since I have small hands. I’m also a little bossy towards sig since I’m from NH haha On a side note, the sig p365 feels terrible when dry firing but I think it’s really nice when actually firing. I have the standard though. The mp shield plus’ definitely felt better though although I actually really like my sigs. I noticed the shields was super light (I’m used to glocks lol)

I own both, (well the p365x not the xl) and I prefer the sig. Both are great guns but with mag guts I get 14+1 out of my sig in a smaller package and it’s also optics ready whereas S&W doesn’t make any of their micros optics ready not even the performance center model, which is a huge downside. I also prefer the Sigs trigger, it may just be my specific gun but the trigger isn’t mushy at all and breaks like glass at 90 degrees.

I am not a "trigger connoisseur" like you, and many people, are, but the other things you point to I can understand with the hands that you have. I am a short guy, and though my hands are not real small they are also nowhere near as "meaty" as your hands are, so I completely understand the preferences you have between these 2 guns. Totally makes sense. The P365XL is my EDC and it fits my hand perfectly. I also do not have any issues with the mag release button. As for the trigger...the amount of significance people put into the nuances of a trigger on a gun, to me, is like someone doing a shoe lace review. Really? I pull on the triggers of all my guns and they all fire. They are doing their jobs absolutely perfectly.

I have owned both; but lost them in a boating accident. A few years ago I completely switched to S&W because one is none and two is one; three for parts. The shield is awesome. The Sig is good but the grip is small for sure. Really can’t beat S&W quality; especially the performance series (as close to a custom gun as you can get without paying custom prices). I highly recommend the shield plus as well as the 2.0 series. Sig respectfully, is great too. Get 2 or 3; you just don’t wanna worry about swapping different magazines in the dark if you ever had too. One is none and two is one; three for parts. 😃😉👍🏻

Im not going to argue which gun is better, because it really is mostly personal preference. But saying the P365 trigger is like punching a bag of marshmellows is probably a bit of an overreach. The Sig has a pretty good trigger. I cant compare it to the S&W because I havent shot that gun, but Ive seen universal praise for the sig trigger.

I held them both at sportsmans. I opted for the p365 standard. The trigger feels terrible when dry firing. When shooting it feels great. I think the sound it makes is what makes this guy think it’s bad. The sw definitely felt better at the shop but I haven’t shot it. I’d imagine I’d hardly notice a difference when shooting. Guys I know that no one will agree with me on this but, to me 4lbs 10oz on the trigger pull on a self defensive gun is too light. That's great at the range but, in a maximun stress situation it's just to easy to pull the trigger when you did not need to. I personally want a double action trigger pull for that reason. I'm just asking you to give it some thought.
@mrwashur1991
@mrwashur1991 3 жыл бұрын
Well I mean don’t put your finger on the trigger until you’re ready to shoot. Also don’t pull your firearm unless your life is being threatened and you intend to shoot. The concept of “I carry a double action because it’s safer” is some of the worst logic out there. Your gun should only come out if you’re intending to stop the threat. In which case it doesn’t matter if you pull too early and hit the target. I’ll agree that 5lbs is usually the standard but 4lbs isn’t going to cause any problems unless you’re not versed with your carry gun or the 4 rules of firearm safety. If you’re more comfortable and shoot better with double action then that’s cool man, but don’t try to play the “it’s safer” card. I need consistency and my firearm to be ready when I go to use it. That long trigger pull is probably more dangerous for most people as it will be harder to pull it under stress and you’re more likely to miss. If that’s what makes it “safer” then you might need to train more..

The shield plus is about as small a 9mm as I can shoot comfortably. The P365 is just too damn small and it wants to move around in my hand when is shoot it even when gripped tightly. No such problems with the shield plus or any other shield. The p365 wasn’t as accurate for me, thanks again to the fact that the grip felt weird in my hands....the shields always lock in to my hand and shoot to point. The plus is everything great about the shield magnified. Comfortable, concealable (I carry it with the 13rd mag and it still pretty much vanishes under a shirt,and the fact that they toned down the grip texture means no more catching on/shredding my shirts all to hell like the 2.0 m&ps do) shootable, and so far, reliable. I like that, instead of comming out with an all new design and beta testing it on consumers like sig did, S&W built the plus on a time tested, reliable platform that people knew and loved and that had already been perfected.

1. The SIG grip feels perfect in my hand. There is nothing more comfortable about the Smith. 2. Wow - serious dexterity problems there? NO trouble dropping a mag out of my P365. 3. Personal preference - I’ve never felt a Smith trigger (on a Shield) that I liked. They feel spongy as hell to me… The SIG trigger “rolls”, which is exactly what I want in a defensive/carry gun. We’re not doing target practice with these things. (Or, if you are, your priorities are out of whack…) How does trigger width have anything to do with it being flat? I bet a KAHR trigger drives you up a wall, doesn’t it.
