Reasons why I dropped my draw weight down for the summer months.
Very fitting that‪@nockonarchery‬ published a video about this topic as I was putting this together. Gave me reassurance as to why I think this is a great idea for someone who only has one bow.

I use a single pin sight that’s adjustable up to 100 yds. It easy to adjust your sights if you do drop or increase your poundage.

You’re absolutely right. Our season ends mid January and I drop from 75lbs to 60lbs for turkey season and stay at that weight until mid August and start moving back up for season opener in mid September

Oh i don’t know man, you’re not going to have enough penetration for turkeys if your shooting less than 70 lbs. 😂 kidding. Definitely makes sense! Great strategy for the off season.

Agreed. Lower DW can be a huge benefit for working on form. I’ve dropped mine 8#’s from my hunting DW on a bow I intend to use for known 3-d class in the ASA events. Lighter weight target arrows give me good speed and the ability to shoot more arrows easier is huge for form and staying in shape. I keep multiple sight tapes for different arrow speeds so later if I want to increase DW and speed it’s like a three minute job. Just chronograph the arrow and pick out the corresponding sight tape. At 73 years old I have to shoot at least every other day or so to stay in shape so lowering DW is a positive for several reasons.👍👍👀

So far I’m loving it! So effortless to pull back after being used to 70. Good idea. I’ll have to save this tape so I know what to start off on come hunting season.

I have always been a target shooter but still shot with 60+ pounds for many years...why? I don't know. But after taking about a 10 year break and starting back up at age 65, I decided...finally, to drop it down. I shoot a 2002 Mathews Conquest 2 and it has 60 lb limbs so I did not want to drop it too much. I took it down to 52/53. I have worked out my entire adult like so strength is not an issue, but it's still a lot more fun to shoot when it's easier to pull. I can shoot for a lot longer periods and I can still shoot out too 90 meters with no problem. I wish I had done it years ago.

It’s not the weight wearing your body out it’s your technique you look stronger than me and I pull back 70 pounds no problem I have a Hoyt VTM so basically same bow as your and I shoot for awhile before i get tired

If you're looking to work on form and get your reps in, low draw weight just makes sense. Increase it as you're about to hunt

Dude I got a similar scale. You can switch to pounds but don’t ask how😂. I know right out of the box I figured it out. You can also switch it to read peak weight and holding weight with a long press of the button. BTW shoot 60 lbs year round. You can kill anything in North America with any 60 lb bow from the last 15 years lol. Lot of stored energy
@1337Miller

Haha yeah I thought so but couldn’t figure it out so just did the conversion. Yeah you don’t NEED to shoot higher lbs. but if you can comfortably then it’ll help. Definitely not necessary for target season.

Or if you have a 30.5" draw, just leave it at 60 lbs and still get 285 fps with a 400 grain arrow. Heck, I even get 270 fps with a 380 grain arrow at 49-50 lbs from a couple bows at 30.5". Thankful for the longer draw length!
@1337Miller
@1337Miller 29 күн бұрын
Good point! Wish I had a longer draw length but I’ll work with what I got! Yeah I don’t think there’s anything wrong with keeping it at 60. Or those that can pull 80, more power to ya.

I got the same bow but in 31 you look taller and stronger than me I'm 5/8 and I'm pulling 70 and pull it easy it's all in how you pull it back if your shoulder is just killing you you probably need to work on your form.
@1337Miller

I'm sure my form isn't perfect but my shoulders feel great. Just reducing it to get more quality reps in per session for the 3D season. How do you like the Ventum?

That bow literally feels 5 to 8 lbs lighter than 70 out of the box !
@stevew3718
@stevew3718 3 ай бұрын
Well on that bow you have a picatinny rail, you might be better off buying another sight and dial it in to the lower draw weight. This way for hunting season crank up your weight and put on your hunting sight. This way no need to sight in every pin. Just a thought
@1337Miller
@1337Miller 3 ай бұрын
I don't have the picatinny rail system on my Hoyt but I get what your saying. That would be a good strategy!
@stevew3718
@stevew3718 3 ай бұрын
@drewsbrew I think so, two sights, one bow, have one sight dialed In for hunting arrows and the other for 3d, practice, or target arrows. The only adjustment you will need to do is your bow poundage

@1337Miller

If anything I'd say my draw length is 1/2 inch too short. My front elbow is bent quite a bit if you look at past videos. I've thought about adjusting it and seeing how it feels. Yeah this is my bow.

Actual holding weight between 70 pounds , and 60 pounds is 1 1/2 pounds difference . Really don’t think your seeing much a benefit
