3 Reasons WHY BELGRADE Is A Great Place For PET LOVERS, check how we take Nala (our dog) everywhere and Simba (our cat) with other cat friends to Kalemegdan Park in Belgrade.
We have lived in Belgrade a bit over a year in total counting the 3 times we have come to Serbia, and one of the things we love about this city is how pet friendly it is.
Yes, there are tons of things that need to change toward animal laws and protection so people stop throwing them on the streets, but it has been so great to find homes for the pets we foster and meeting other purrpawparents.
Living as an expat in different cities allow us to see best cities for us but also for our dog Nala and cat Simba and we will be sharing with you all how life in living with pets across Europe.
Why Belgrade should be your next destination as a pet lover.

a vldog Yes, we are able to take Nala and Simba almost everywhere, the sad part is the amount of pets that are thrown in the streets. We are partnering with locals to help these fur babies get homes, but it is not always easy. Many don't like big dogs, and there are tons of them abandoned. We will be using Nala's cam more often to show people's reaction when they see her in the street and the same with Simba, it is priceless. (for good and for bad) In Spain, someone yelled at us to get ourselves a dog instead of walking a cat ... ya sabes que nos gusta opinar donde no nos llaman... Un besito chicos!

Love the Nala cam! Both her and Simba are so lucky that you found them ☺Belgrade seems like a lovely place to have pets and a lot like the UK, a lot of hotels and restaurants here allow pets too

Thank you, guys! Yes, we follow a few people with pets in the UK, and it is incredible all the things they get to do with them outside, we love places like that. If the pets are trained, it is a wonderful thing for pets and owners to share some of the daily activities we all do

i wish less locals are pet friendly. you cannot expect to have a pet friendly shop that has nothing to do with pets.

Hehe, back in days every house or building had "their pets". You wouldn't often take them to stay in home with you, unless it's very cold or storm or something (then we could spot the pet people), but someone would always take care of bowls with water and food. For example, leftovers from meals, like bones and stuff kids wouldn't eat, we used to put around for cats, dogs, hedgehogs and others, but almost never throw in trash containers. Where I grew up, there were like 6 kids my age from different families and we had three dogs. They played with us all, so not a specific owner, but if some stranger passed around, they were the bodyguards. Lest to say, nobody was robbed anyone in our building, nobody was attacked, but dogs really messed our football/soccer careers. Cats were like "wtf is going on?". Every year there was a litter of cats, February was all screaming in the middle of the night, and girls would treat them as babies. Until they run away... somewhere. I was bitten once by a mother-dog, because I wanted to impress a girl while holding a puppy. I had to take anti-rabies stuff and my family was in panic! I want a hedgehog now!

This is priceless! Thank you for sharing! Yes, in the neighborhood we live, they do that. Every building has a designated (unofficially of course) dog. Everyone in the building love them and look after them but as you say they stay outside. Our Nala often plays with all of them, but some of them can be overprotective, so I can understand why you got bite. Now you want a hedgehog? Lieles wants a racoon! We love animals and we love that some people take care of them, but it makes us sad when we see animals thrown in the garbage or in poor conditions. So, we take them and try to find them a home. If we could we would take them all BTW, did it work with the girl you were trying to impress? lol

@@TheMamuchos Of course it worked, I was her patient #1 for a while :) I was a kid, and I understand now why I was attacked. It was if someone 10m high takes your baby and you don't know if it's because he means well or want to cook it for dinner :) And mom-dog was rather small, and those are fiercest. Anyway, I learned a lesson to not selfishly exploit animals and other living beings for own purpose. I was the least scared, and that pack (4 of them) hanged out with us for years after. Another neighbour, an elderly lady, literally took a dog off the street for companionship - some mix of dachund and whatever makes it furry. It was only after 2000's when people started to be interested in "pure" breeds and actually started "buying pets", taking them to vets for zillion reasons and bucks... Sadly, where I live, we don't have much racoons. I never met a wild one, but I love them too - they work with hands like humans, are definitely smart and conieving. I want a hedgehog, because I know them well. It's like a small dog that hates you, always. Give it food, it still hates you. Want to pet it, hates you even more. Give it a bath, that's reason for planning an assassination. Stuck some rotten stuff on his back - happy, but still hates you. And you can't find where he hides or has it ran out for days. So, the patience and effort to understand and gain trust of a hedgehog is next level :)

I think Vojvodina (Northern part of Serbia) is much much more pet friendly than Belgrade. I live close to Belgrade (Zemun), but I feel like a lot of people still have that mentality that dogs are somewhat below humans and some get annoyed when you bring them with yourself.

Hi there! Thanks for your comment. To be honest, now that you say it, we have traveled around the Vojvodina region and we always take Nala and Simba. We even stayed in Salas and they are always welcomed, cuddled and loved. When we travel to the south, we get more looks of why are you taking your pets (especially the cat) everywhere. I think as a society in the entire world, we have some work to do towards respecting and protecting nature and animals. Do you have a dog?

@@TheMamuchos Yeah I do I have 3 dogs actually 😀 And yeah, when I was in Vojvodina I was surprised that they let me bring my dogs inside a restaurant and nobody cared. So yeah, for whatever reason people in the north seem to be much more chill

Wait? You do not wipe Nala's paws before letting Nala back into your apartment?
@TheMamuchos
@TheMamuchos Жыл бұрын
If you ask is because you know we do, however that is not relevant to the story, and ideally we don't want to bore people with such little details. If we don't wear street shoes inside of our house, why would we let Nala or Simba walk inside without cleaning their paws?

@@TheMamuchos My friend had a dog, Asia (Ashia), who would not allow her paws to be wiped after a walk. The first time I walked her, and then when she would not allow her paws to be wiped, I closed the door (i.e. not allow her back into the apt), and let her bark for 5 minutes, before I would try again. My friend got annoyed and asked why I was making Asia bark so early in the morning. I said I am trying to wipe her paws before allow her back into the apt. My friend then said Good Luck wıth that. After half an hour, Asia finally allowed me to wipe her paws. Afterwards, my friend thanked me for teaching Asia to allow her paws to be wiped before entering a home. :-)

@@RPGmodsFan thank you for taking the time to teach your friend's dog. There's too much dirt on the streets for doggies not to be wiped when returning home. Thank you for sharing this. We love to hear about other people's stories around their pets, or friend's pets ☺️

@@TheMamuchos Just as a followup (last one, I promise 😛 ). The next time I saw my friend and Asia, Asia was so happy to see me, which I at the time did not understand. I asked, why is your dog so happy to see me, I do not feed her, or give her treats. My friend answered, it because I give her long walks.
