❍ New episodes of the Dispatches podcast releasing every week here on The Well
❍ Podcast Episode 5: • Consciousness: Not jus...
In this episode of Dispatches from The Well, Kmele Foster continues his search for the meaning of life inside the minds of some of the world’s most creative visionaries.
Godfrey Reggio revolutionized film with his experimental documentaries. Steve Albini is preserving the spirit of music by committing to analog recording. Fred Armisen turned his creativity into a career by combining his passion for music and comedy. Kmele sat down with each of these creators and asked them about the “why” behind their existence.
From sitting behind the camera to stepping in front of it, these artists have found meaning in their lives by committing to the things that, in simple terms, are the most fun. Join us as we explore the perspectives of these “rebellious creatives” in episode six of Dispatches from The Well.
Featuring: Steve Albini, Fred Armisen, Godfrey Reggio

❍ About The Well ❍
Do we inhabit a multiverse? Do we have free will? What is love? Is evolution directional? There are no simple answers to life’s biggest questions, and that’s why they’re the questions occupying the world’s brightest minds.
So what do they think?
How is the power of science advancing understanding? How are philosophers and theologians tackling these fascinating questions?
Let’s dive into The Well.

None, in the show, there are 3 white men from the country that creates the largest ecological and economical devastation in the world. Yes, their stories are great, I’ll try to remember to be born into wealth next time. Bullshit! Another show about privileged people “leading”.

I appreciate how Kmele takes seriously every person he interviews. He meets them where they are, and is completely fascinated by them on their terms. That's a lovely quality for an interviewer and creator to have. And as someone who is near (slightly older) to Kmele's age: Kmele, it doesn't sound like you're having a mid-life crisis, though that's the kind of thing we feel we're expected to say, because in our society it's considered quaint to be so earnest. But it's not quaint to me. You're just living and trying to be thoughtful. I love where Godfrey Reggio lands on this: it's what you do that matters. And you're doing this, and this is spectacular.

To have seen _any_ of these people in an episode would have been amazing to me. All three of them in one episode? Baffling!! I'm beside myself, wwoww.

Godfrey Reggio such a wise man. I love that he said you just have to start doing it and the meaning will find you. I really enjoyed this! Have never seen your channel before but so glad I came accross it. It's a mid-life evaluation not crises! You are leaving your youth behind and facing into older years and it's normal to re-evaluate! And all you can do is accept it.

Great guest choices, I love Steve Albini and his impact on music, and a big fan of Shellac and Big Black, so was very excited to hear from him. I loved what he said about how music is best when it's authentic, and there's nothing getting in the way or inhibiting from what they have to do to express themselves. It's so true, I could care less if the artist is super perfect sounding, perfect pitch, perfect timing, etc. I care more about their personality being manifested through sound. I had never heard of that director Godfrey before, but loved his input as well about how "what you do in life, is who you are" type of stuff. He resonated with me the most as an artist and creative, and Fred Armisen is so creative and such an interesting guy, loved what he said about not caring so much about the why in life and instead just focus on living. That's a nice peaceful route to go in life.

@@JesseDanielSmith To be free from traumas, memories, as they effect you today and dictate your thoughts and feelings and therefore your actions. And to be free from reward and punishment, to not be rewarded when you're praised nor feeling punished.

And to be free you must be attentive to what's playing in you, from that attention comes understanding, from that understanding, from that understanding and insight the memories and traumas of the past start to desolve. And from freedom, love and intelligence emerges naturally and then there's a different quality to daily life

Koyaanisqatsi could not be in starker contrast to the movies of today, no dialogue filled with meaning as apposed to constant dialogue devoid of meaning....Where guns and exposions are the ultimate climax and conclusion to 95% of stories on screen. Instead of progress all I see is a regression in the liberation of the human spirit....
