Great demo, I've added in a saturation FX channel send even on my Livestream. Without, it's kinda dull. With and it comes alive. Like delay, reverb, compression, clipping, limiting, doing so without overdoing and it sounds good. Unless overdoing is the effect then OK.

I have gotten to hate par compression. You can achieve the same thing with volume. It really sounds bad on large systems.

I just don't overly compress. I usually need it on a vocal that's not consistent as far as volume.

For me, it will always depend on the song and the track. Some need them and some don't. It can do some incredible things for consistency that volume can't for me. If it's sounding bad, it may not have been used properly or there's just too much. It's a tasteful art for sure!
