I can't express my gratitude enough for Lixian and Mark putting in flashing light warnings, as well as a SOUND CLUE for when its over. I have epilepsy and watching scary playthroughs can be frustrating and sometimes even dangerous without these warnings. Because the subtitles say what sound to look out for I don't need anyone in my house to tell me when its safe again and it just means so much. I love Mark and his content and I feel very loved as a fan because of their effort to keep me, and others, safe.

I feel the same ..I have epilepsy..and I watch scary playthroughs ...that don't put up a flashing lights warning or even normal games ..but does have flashing lights ..still have no warning for flashing lights...that why I appreciate Lixian and Mark for putting up flashing lights warning..so I'm prepared for it when it over

Your friendly neighbor eye technician here! The machine is called a refractor which measures the length and curvature of your eye! Depending on the brand and gear of the machine will determine if you see a hot air balloon or house! (Also Mark even if your vision is perfect you should still see the eye doctor annually 😉)

For anyone who may be wondering, the SpongeBob game originally used 1-to-1 looking assets of the show, but because the game had a price tag and SpongeBob is copyrighted the dev had to change the looks. The screaming fish was originally the "What did you do to my drink?!" guy.

As a photosensitive epileptic his videos are some of the only I can watch because of this. It is greatly appreciated- and to the comment saying why it can't just be in the description.... are we supposed to just have the description open at all times? Memorize the exact times and try to skip to the correct time without it triggering anything? Sometimes the video will skip back a bit when you forward it, at least on mobile, that would suck. Its a nice little detail he included to make his videos more inclusive and there's tons of horror game youtubers who don't bother with epilepsy warnings so you can go watch them if its such a bother for you. I can't.

I worked as an Optometric Technician so let me help ya. It's actually dependent on which option was ordered for each machine. Some have it as a house with a field, Could be a Barn at the end of a road, others actually have it as a Hot air Balloon. It all just comes down to which Machine the office has purchased.

From what I found, the hot air balloon/farm house test is only a test to see how your eyes focus on something in the distance. You don't look and see one or the other. The machine measures your eyes' dialation as you focus on something you perceive to be in the distance, and you just see whichever picture is loaded.

@@dafibber There are different machines for measuring eye pressures, the one with the picture measures your eye by blasting it with air (I f-ing hate those things, if your eye twitches, they have to redo it) and then there are those with the light where the doctor gets really close to your eye to measure (I'm guessing that's the one you meant? I preffer those over the air pressure one). I think the air pressure machines are older and most doctors that aren't too out of date have the newer light things as they are easier on the patient and probably more accurate, while I've seen the air pressure ones in hospitals for the pre checkup rooms (the proper examination rooms had the new ones). Thought I'm talking about my experiences in germany.

I've had that eye test since I was 3, and since I can remember it's always been a hot air balloon. But the funny thing is my eye doctor always says "Look at the house" and I always wonder why.

I saw the hot air balloon as a kid and I only remember it because of how terrified I was to do it. I didn’t know how it worked or what I was going to look into, but my 4 probably 5 year old self thought there was going to be a balloon that literally popped into my eyeball and I sat there and had the worst tantrum ever because of how scared I was ☠️

Ive always seen a hot air balloon, the people making you do it usually say something along the lines of "You're going to see a hot air balloon and you're going to tell me if 1 or 2 is clearer"

Never seen a house, always saw a hot air balloon. But you know what test always freaks me out? The glaucoma test, the one where you have to stare at a green light and they puff air into your eye. I always get so anxious with that test and I hate it. 😂

The green light thing isn't the air. The house/balloon is the air test. The green light thing is a picture of your eyeball that they do instead of dilating your eyes. If the picture is good, they can skip dilation. And it doesn't matter if you see a house or a balloon, it's just some offices have a balloon, some have a house. Marks full of crap 😂

@@Liquefaction I believe you are mistaken friend. Namely, the tests you name are reversed in their function. The balloon/house test is used to determine, essentially, what your prescription might be, as the image will be in and out of focus. It tracks the measurement of light inside your eye as it refracts and forms the image. The air puff is the one where you have to stare at a green light, without blinking, and they puff air to your eye to test your IOP (intraocular pressure). I usually have to do it a few times cause I always panic blink.

@@Liquefaction you just missed the green light then. The tests are often done one right after the other. The house / balloon will look blurry then come into clear sight then usually as the picture is still up a green light will show up and that's when the air puff is. Since they're done sequentially people associate the house/balloon with the air puff because it's either still visible during the air puff or done mere seconds before the air puff. I've been going to the eye doctor many times for the past 8 years, had the tests done many o times. Didn't realize it was 2 separate tests until recently.

I have an irrational intense phobia of that eye doctor exam machine thing where it puffs air into your eyes. Something in my brain goes nuts, and it floods me with images of it shooting out a needle into my eyes. So much that I actually enter a panic attack every time, and need some time after to recover enough to continue the exam. Thankfully all (but one) of my eye doctors have been patient with me about it, and were very gentle.

Went this past summer and mine back at home FINALLY got rid of the air blow thing and replaced it with something much less aggressive. I had been going all my life, I was in shock to know I didn’t have to brace myself for the awful air puff anymore

If you have diabetes in your eyes like I do. You do have too get injections with a needle too the side of your eye. Luckily they numb your eye with special eye drops before the injection.

There is a pressure test machine that literally bounces a tiny needle off of your eye to measure the rebound force. It doesn’t hurt or anything, but the concept is just ridiculous to me.

In regards to the House vs. Hot Air Balloon it isn't a perceptual thing. It actually is different depending on what model auto-refractor that the eye doctor has. Some models have the hot air balloon, others have the house. Some auto-tonometers (the air puff test) have them too. It's simply a coincidence that Mark has only ever seen the house. Source: Used to work in an eye clinic.

The image you see at the eye doctors office depends on the image they used. The AR (auto-refractor) watches your eyes focus on an image in the distance to estimate your glasses prescription. They use hot air balloons, a house, a barn, a pinwheel, etc... The machine shown in the video is a slit lamp which is a totally different thing.

@@Wandergirl108 Depends on what they're testing for. You probably have good vision. There are a couple machines optometrists have that you need to stare into for a few seconds... usually to scan your retinas or something. Not sure what the house/air balloon one is for... might be checking depth perception? Maybe testing which eye is more dominant? Dunno.

actually theres both! i remember taking two tests back to back with like a day apart in different cities and one doctor had a hot air balloon and the other had a house installed in their machine. if you google these pictures you can see that they are both real and very different!

i saw the balloon and fun fact, that machine is called a Tonometer. it very quickly taps your eye to test the pressure of your eye to test for glaucoma.
