You say use a reference track ! But if everyone did this ? Won't all songs sound the same ? That's not art , that's painting by numbers my man , and why are you not super famous ? It's because those that can't do ! Teach ! Special tracks don't sound the same as other tracks because they are unique , you can't learn Art my good man.

I’ve been using FL Studio for a while now, I like that the buttons are bigger and there are resizable windows. The GUI of Ableton looks very functional but ugly with tiny little buttons. I’m happy I can still apply what EDM Tips teaches in FL Studio. Each DAW has its strengths and weaknesses, whatever workflow suits you best.

I was gonna say, Ive been using Studio One (love the amount of control) it seems very similar to Ableton in functionality -- but wow does Ableton look like it came from a floppy disc 💾 😂 I don't doubt it's ability to be used to make absolutely great music, but I couldn't help but feel that it's interface seems like it'd've looked the same in the 90s

I'm Fruity too... There I said it :P And I very much appreciate it for a variety of reasons. But from the moment I tried to get more serious about producing, I did notice Fruity giving me some headaches when it comes to learning the functionality. It has great deals of excellent options, but they don't give themselves away that easily :D If you compare that to Ableton, I definitely understand why beginning producers would rather go with Ableton, because it eases you into the creative process whereas Fruity takes some work to reveal it's true power and rewards those who take a very planned technical approach with, it must be said, a lot! And indeed... I adore how FL lets me make everything pretty :D I'd happily see even more of that functionality creep into 22. @@EzPeasZ
@jibberism9910
@jibberism9910 11 ай бұрын
@@edward.david_lol true, it's not a problem at all. Trying to recreate certain things in FL is also a good way to learn about functionalities you sometimes didn't even know existed.

Hey Will, just wanted to let you know that your videos still help me immensely. There's no other music production content creator that meets your standard of quality and professionalism. I've asked already a couple of times, but I'd really love to see a hyper-trance tutorial in the style of Volant, Virtual Self and Nuphory. As far as I have seen, you too seem to love trance, so I really hope you too would enjoy making something like that. Tracks like Particle Arts by Virtual Self, Final Gate by Volant and HYPERTRACE by Nuphory are worth noting, they are my favorites in the genere. I especially struggle with the bassier songs that have driving acid drops together with beautiful melodies

Great tips like always. 👍 Im not always using a reference track. But i guess i better should. My ears are not the best anymore with over 50. Problems with the highs...especially after hours of making music or mixing. I had alot loud music in my life. Club or even metal concerts back in the 80s/90s. The thing with -12db for the kick and go from there is something i do for longer already. And my mixdown is always between -4db/-6db. Thats the best tip ever. I did so many things wrong in the past. Im still learning. But at the end it will stay a hobby that calms me down as a therapy. Thx for your great videos...I really appreciate them. ❤☮☯🍻👍

Hey Will, great video, but I found out, that somehow the YouLean Meter adds Autogain to the track you put it on. Another helpful thing I found out is that having two sub basses give more crisp to the song. I always set up one for the kick and a second one for the melodies, which I put on do different channels. I also add Reverbs and Delays during my arrangement stage, just to make sure, that in the mixing stage, I don't have decide about when and where it makes the most sense.

It would have been -18 dB average volume- -12dB peak for the kick I've found to be a good place to anchor your kick, but yes - -18dB average is generally the sweet spot for going into analogue-modelled plugins!

Then use it…I tend to have one for the vocals, and then one or two more that other elements share as an absolute maximum

And the fourth tip is...Turn down your output level of your monitors / earphones. Mixing with to loud monitors will end up in tired ears after a very short time.

If I had a magic wand to fix one thing in my mix I'd magic a fat wedge of cash so I can afford to join your Accelerator Program. Invest in knowledge and I'd never need a magic wand.

I appreciate you tips for production. But since when are you a pro mixer? Reference mix, analog emulation and aiming for -6db has nothing to do with pro mixing. In fact most pros don’t reference and don’t aim for - 6db. I hate KZfaq for everybody thinking they are pros when they just scratched on the surface yet.. no diss but it really drags me away. Keep up the good work

Great tips, but some of us don't give a monkeys about "high profile artists". Strange thing to bang on about in an age where production is available to anyone and music is worthless.

Reference track feels like cheating. I will NEVER use one, no matter how much you try to convince me. You hear me!? NEVER!

How old are you? Im over 50 and my ears are bad. Problems with the highs. Its not really cheating in my humble opinion. But i sometimes use one and sometimes not. I guess i will use one more often in the future. 😉

Dirk T You sir are an idiot, you will never have good sounding mixes if don't use a reference, you'll just have to learn the hard way, even studios do this, the reference might come from a client.

Hi Will, thank you for all of your tutorials and helpful videos! I have one question: Im a beginner at music producing and id love to recreate my absolute favorite song "dreamboat" by Battletapes (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kLWobNKVq7HdoXU.html). I know its by far not the style of music you usualy produce and make tutorials about, but i would love some help witht he sounddesign. The notes are not realy a problem, but creating this special kind of sound is hard. So if you could talk more about recreating sounds and synths (mybe taking that song as an example pretty please?)that would be so awesome! Big Love and thank you

Thanks for the suggestion, Jimmy! Recreating sounds and sound design is something we do a lot in our Accelerator program - take them apart and teach our students how they can recreate them. I recommend checking it out :)
