This video covers 3 easy and simple methods I am using in the vegetable garden this growing season to effective double the growing space of specific areas of the garden. All three methods are working fantastically and I want to share them with you so you can begin implementing them in your kitchen garden. Nothing in more rewarding than growing our own food, and if we can squeeze in extra than that is always a bonus, some techniques make little improvements but this video is about the techniques that make noticeable impacts to the productivity of your vegetable garden.

You have the best vegetable garden channel on KZfaq. Period. There are so many people on KZfaq who just repeat a lot of unsubstantiated nonsense on their channels for the sake of content and advertising revenue, and in the process they confuse inexperienced gardeners (and cause them to waste their time and money). But you speak from a position of experience - you only preach what you have practiced! And the results of what you preach are clear for everyone to see! On top of that the production value and your presentation is so professional and inviting... I don't know how a major television channel has not tried to lure you!

Oh wow thank you so much! This comment has made my day in fact!😊 I'm so pleased you enjoy my content and the TV point is an interesting one, currently had interest but nothing interesting come from it, for now I have no plan or desire to do anything TV related as I love making these videos for KZfaq :)

Yes, he could do something great for tv! Maybe too great. remember his stuff is about actually empowering people, and since was that allowed on tv..? In fact, as a different gardener - melissa k. Norris - experienced, gardening is now considered "sensitive" content... s3lf suff1c13ncy isnt good for us ; )

@@HuwRichards Well it's made my day that it's made your day ! :) I've been watching your videos since you first started, and it's amazing to see how far you've come. You're setting the standard for everyone else now! Maybe it's better to stay away from television - on here you have complete control over what you do, and that is why you have become so successful :)

@@HuwRichards please stay on utube. I haven’t watched TV in a decade. I’d imagine once you sign up for any tv show your content is then dictated by that company. They own you and you just become a marketing tool, for them. Unless you are someone who wants fame and fortune and isn’t bothered about selling your integrity I’d stick with your current format. It’s excellent. Clearly you are doing it your way and that’s the best way. 🌻🌼🌸🌺🌾💐🌷🌹🥀

Some good tips here. My raised beds are so productive now, that we have to give a lot of vegetables away to neighbors and the food pantry, don't know what we'd do with them if we doubled production. It is a good problem to have, though.

Pots are great where you get plenty of rain. Not good in a hot Summer climate like Australia where the black pots heat up & you have to remember to water twice daily. I tried tyres last year for my vines thinking I can fill them with great soil & easily know where to water in the hot months... Experiment gone wrong... Burnt them & got nothing... Oh well, you live & learn a LOT with gardening! Gleaned some great tips to include in this year's vege patch! 👌🌟

Growing in the resting compost bin is particularly interesting to me. My first attempt at building compost went off the rails…donated shredded paper, including envelopes with cellphone windows, as well as healthy oxalis thriving. So now I can use that compost since it will stay in the BioStack and not spread where I would have liked. Thanks! PS, just occurred to me I can also move that compromised compost to several grow bags and still get the benefit without spreading the plastic and oxalis!

In a past video, you showed how to make a low cost seedling pots. I have tried the same with cardboard rolls from toilet paper. Recycling the toilet paper is great. o not has toxic issues with that. Many seeds germinate very well. If they don't germinate, I wouldn't put the problem down to the cardboard but rather to the viability of the seeds. Thanks for your videos!

There is timing also with potatoes and squash. Plant the squash next the the potato bed. Then harvest the potatoes next to the squash. As the potatoes go then the squash will take over the space. Tromba d'albenga is good for this, seems to be the only squash which likes growing towards the north.

My idea to aid me in the garden is to create what i call food islands in which i create circular or simular beds which i keep apart from the main garden or beds for instance if i plant cucurbits such as squash i plan for their eventual size and determine number of plants i want for that food island way i see it i provide the space needed for the eventual mature plant and make for an easier harvesting ability much like a key hole garden plus i imaigne maintaining ,amending and fertilzation to be easier thus better soil health which means better harvests and plant health no doubt

Love the trellis idea. But we live in an area in Canada that has crazy high winds...les suetes. We get wind gusts that range from 120km -200+km in any given storm. Things will rip off buildings and all of that too. We've managed to make a coldframe/greenhouse that will bleed the winds, as for framing in the garden area we used fence posts and cattle fencing. I'd love to hear your suggestions on what we can grow on the fence material that would help shelter the garden. Apart from beans and grapes we don't have anything vine-like growing yet. Thoughts?
