Paid spokesperson for MannKind. This is my personal experience using Afrezza (insulin human) Inhalation Powder. Results may vary.
Important Safety Information
Afrezza® (insulin human) Inhalation Powder may cause serious side effects, including sudden lung problems, low blood sugar, decreased lung function, lung cancer, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe allergic reaction, low potassium in your blood and heart failure. Some of these side effects may lead to death. The most common side effects are low blood sugar, cough, and sore throat. Do not use AFREZZA if you have long-term lung problems such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. AFREZZA is not for use in place of long-acting insulin. AFREZZA must be used with long-acting insulin in people who have type 1 diabetes mellitus. AFREZZA is not for use in people who smoke or have recently stopped smoking (less than 6 months). AFREZZA is used to control high blood sugar in adults with diabetes mellitus.

I'm the type of diabetic who swings hard one way or another. That is, my glucose levels tend to move really, really fast. Because of that I'd be very wary of using something like Afrezza. Fortunately a side effect of swinging fast means I don't have to bolus until the food is in front of me. The product sounds good, and I'm sure it's very effective for others, but my personal situation is different.

Do you take this insulin for all of your meals? How long did it take you to master the ratios for this insulin?
@DiabetesStrong
@DiabetesStrong Жыл бұрын
No, this isn't my only mealtime insulin. But some people only use Afrezza (you can learn more about how I use it from my last Afrezza video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/sKdoodl1teCbnJ8.html). I'm not sure exactly how long it took me to learn how to use Afrezza doses. It helped that I've used carb counting and carb ratios for a long time, so I just converted my injected rapid-acting doses to Afrezza doses

Christel, thank you very much for posting that. I am having trouble with Afrezza working for me. I started out in September for the first time using 4 mg. and it did absolutely nothing. I need and want it for when my mid-day blood glucose goes to 180 or 220 mg/dl. and I'm at work and not eating. I do low carb and Keto and intermittent fasting. I run avg. 6.2 HbA1C. And my last was 5.9. Use Lantus and Humalog. So anyway, I just got a new batch of 8 and 12 mg Afrezza. For which I did get the $15 only co-pay. For perhaps $1800 retail, or lots more. Rather than the conversion rate of 1.5, I'm suffering with the Afrezza only working about 1/2 the units of short acting injectable insulin. I.e, E.g. 4mg of Afrezza does nothing for my blood sugar. But I have lots of inventory and my insurance covered it well. I got 90 of the 8 units and 90 of the 12 units. And got time to experiment. Not impressed so far. Usually it takes 12 units of Humalog to get me down from 180 to 200. And I can stack the 4, 8 and 12 mg capsules of Afrezza I have. Basically a work in progress type of thing for me now, new to the game. I'm not complaining. I do fine with long acting and short acting MDI. For 31 years. And will update how things do. --Work in progress. A second thanks for your video. Nice to hear your input. And I hope it can work better for me.

Thank you for sharing. Did you get your lungs checked and shown how to use the inhaler? I wonder if you're not getting all of the powder into your lunges? Or maybe it's just not as effective for you, which would be a bummer. But glad you got to try it out for $15

@@DiabetesStrong I watched how to used the inhaler on the Afrezza site videos. I didn't get my lungs checked, but they are fine. I asked my endocrinologist if she required that I get a pulmonary funtion test. She replied that is is recommended but did not require me to do it. And I am a physician and can just know that my lungs are fine. And I think that you are correct to some extent that half of it is that maybe not all the powder is going into my lungs rather than get stuck on the way down. I still think it is a great idea. My thoughts are that it normally takes a bit more insulin to get me down from "sticky" highs or just plain highs, even if I average good and go sideways most of the time with a low carb and intermittent fasting diet. And I will keep trying. Another thing is that I think it takes more units of insulin to get me down. If you understand the concept, probably because of a higher Body Mass Index. And a medical term for drugs: Volume of Distribution. I think it will work if I experiment more. Good thing is I've done well for 31 years with Type 1. Like I've mentioned I have a long lived good record on keeping my HbA1C low. the whole time. This is just another tactic in the battle, that is not really a problem. Just trying to optimize as we Type 1's tend to do. And commit to the battle. ✌

It's only available in the US, and a few other geographies. I think Brazil is one. It's insulin and in the US you need a prescription
