Lots of good tips. I’ve never been happy with the tone of my bass recordings. I’ll try all your pointers on my electric bass. I actually use a mic to record my upright bass, so I’ll work in some of your techniques here as well. Many Thanks

This was very helpful information on using the Peak/VU meter and amp sims. My bass rig is a Mesa WD-800 and 212 cab, and I use my Behringer XR18 as my recording interface. I typically record on 2 tracks simultaneously; one track is a Shure Beta 52a micing the cab, and the second is a DI from my amp head. This allows me to record the tone of my amp as it is in a live setting, and also allows me to use my pedalboard. Once recorded, I can then balance the mix of the DI and Mic tracks. After watching this video I’m going to download that Peak/VU meter and will use that on all my recordings going forward. I will also record a third track by sending a clean signal (pre pedalboard) to another channel in my interface. Then I can experiment with the bass amp simulator and effect on the clean signal. I’m very interested to hear how they sound. Thanks again for this video!

Superb! Well explained and expertly presented, loving this series. 'Punch in' didn't know you could do that! 😐I'm having big problems with latency, any advice on how I get rid of that on my iMAC?

Great video/lesson! Appreciate it! Maybe you can demonstrate how to add a backing track from you tube to garage band to play along with and record a bass part over. I’m not even sure it’s possible but it seems like it should be. Thanks!

Great video! How can I get the same bass sound as the Beatles got in the White Album - I'm thinking in particular Glass Onion. I have the same bass, a Fender VI. It would be great to get that same sound in Garage Band. Thanks for the very valuable work that you do.

Hi there! I've looked everywhere to find a plug-in that would help me to create a portamento/glissando/slide/glide effect on the software bass guitar track. No luck so far. Do you have any recommendation? I'm sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but it seems rather hard to find a solution. Thanks.

When recording bass, I can't get the Peak and VU to match up the way you do. I can't get it past -10 on the Peak without the VU pushing the needle to the max.

I don't understand why my recording line is so skinny. my preset and vu is as you instructed but my bass sounds still quite fuzzy if I increase volume it just clips and sounds like shit and it barely shows the audio waves on the track when recording you know

Why is it that when recording a guitar, the original signal from the guitar can still be heard? even though I already use a virtual amp. so I couldn't clearly hear the processed audio output from the virtual amp

Last week I bought a cheap Squier Precision and put a pickup upgrade in it and it was the best and easiest bass recording ever. Eight other higher end basses, and I struggled to get a decent mix. A passive Precision (which I normally hate) works perfect. I see why engineers demand them.
