Күн бұрынJames Young's Growth was definitely Stunted. Barely lasted 4 years in the NBA before he was off to overseas basketball. These 3 things were the biggest reasons. He's currently on the re-route back to the league. Do you think he can get back? Was the #nba to big of a level for his skill set? Was the #bostonceltics the wrong team to take him in the draft? So many questions and uncertainty. One thing's for sure, Young was not expected to be in this position. Leaving high school he was ranked top 10 in the country. He took his #kentucky team to the National Championship game before becoming a one and done player, slated to go lottery.
I've always felt he would need the perfect situation, because his game reminds me a lot of those correct height, but wrong game type for that height. Like, Bradley Beal is a shorter guy, but he has insane handle, crazy footwork, automatic jump shot and built more in the point guard mold as a scorer. And he was drafted to a workable situation. James has that game that if he was 6'9, he'd be the best player in the league. Low tension, smooth and score first and only.
What lesson can be learnt from his story? Making it there is half the battle, staying there is the other. Perfect multiple aspects of your game and be cautious what style you're creating based on your size and desired position.

NBA teams must take responsibility for the development of the players they draft. Too many teams draft players that they never intend on utilizing.

I went to high school w him, I actually sat next to him in algebra freshman year. This video is right, James has a lot of talent but he never pushed. In hs he was so much bigger than everybody, that gave him a natural advantage and he didn’t have to work that hard. He started showing up to games high, he didn’t care. When he hit the nba he never pushed himself to be a better player, to rise up. I’m sure he could have been great! Wonder what he’s up to now

Has to reconstruct his game into a 3 and D wing to get another shot at the league in my opinion. Pj Tucker and Pat bev had to minimize their offensive roles and focus on the defensive side to get another shot. Well all know Young can shoot, but what else?

Crazy that was one of Kentucky's better teams since John calipari been the coach and only one successful NBA player was on the roster being Randle. Willie Cauley-Stein only in the NBA now because you can't teach 7 feet who can jump high.

Problem with guys like James is aau. They been the cream of the crop for so long. Never learned other skills besides ball dominate play. Cutting, setting screens, defending etc. If they don't have the ball they're useless. Everyone isn't meant to be a star. They're 20 to 3p guys in the league who can shoot it whenever. Those additional skills I mentioned is why you see sus Duke guys in the league for years. See lance Thomas, plumlee, types. The fact you mentioned Romeo L. Same team. Similar type players. Good one. Romeo has been replaced by Pritchard. Guy who just knows how to play. See TJ McConnell. You spot on with this assessment.

I remember when this guy beat us in the playoffs in high school. We had a squad too but this dude was just different. I thought he was gonna be a star. It’s crazy to think of elite high school athletes, that can’t compete at the NBA level. I can’t fathom what nba athletes look like up close.

A lot of players dont understand that once you enter the NBA its purely entertainment from then on. You now have to play a role until you can become a lead actor. Most or all of the player in the NBA have MAD GAME but the ones that last the longest are the ones that are able to assume a role and do it well.

Jalen and Brown never got along because of this and Brown made Jalen's tenure a living hell. That's all politics are-somebody liking and looking out for somebody else.

I was stationed at fort Campbell (on the Kentucky/Tennessee boarder) so they showed a bunch of wildcat games when he was at uk.... he was amazing in every game i watched. I really thought he was going to be one of the next ones.

Excellent content! Its funny seeing myself in your video training James 😉 This was a great analysis, but missing some points of improvement. The overseas clips you have in the video, James led the Israeli league in scoring, taking one of the worst teams to the playoffs. He also dropped 35 on Deni Avdija (1st Pick Drafted #9). After that season he signed with the Knicks. He is currently back in Israel where he has had a number of MVP games and also beating Maccabi Tel Aviv 4 times this season which is unheard of in the Israeli League. Mind you it’s one of the top leagues in the world. We are definitely putting in the work, and he is on the same path as a PG tucker who also played in Israeli league and Patrick Beverly who also had to work his was through the Euro circuit to get to the league. People need to invest more on how players like him can recover rather than be so critical on their failures. You definitely pointed out some great things on being a killer out there and being on the right team. We have to remember he was 19 when he got in the league. Not everyone can handle that. He is 26 now, and maybe this is the journey he needed to mature.

I think what made James young to Leave so early was cuz the Celtics had a lot of quality wings. I recognize brad stevens uses him at end defensive situations. That’s why James young was chosen over RJ hunter. This is similar to javonte green over max strus. I think after the Celtics gave up on James due to the logjam of wings, he was never the same player. I think he can develop into a Tony Allen type of player if he is at the right situation. I think the Celtics should sign him back and release semi ojeleye. He has similar defensive presence like ojeleye, but better offense.
