For myself, I wanted to blame my husband for the state of the home. Was he messy? Yes. Did he leave stuff out everywhere? Yes. Did he collect weird random things? Yes, Oh, so many!
But so did I.

I can assemble and hang a lamp. I can talk sensible things in front of a camera. But both at the same time and being so relaxed? No way. You are amazing! Great content, thank you for sharing wisdom and make us smile!

I love how calming and down to earth your videos feel. There's no stress, no looming deadline, no you-have-to-get-this-done-or-you're-not-good-enough. It's just peace, just comforting choice, just..... stupid easy. I love it. Thank you for another de-stressing video.

Hi Rachel! You are totally describing "ask" versus "guess" culture. (Sorry, forgot who coined the phrase.) The idea behind this is that there are people who have grown up (usually ADHD homes) guessing what you are supposed to do before the explosion hits and there are people who grow up in families where people ask, "can I have?", "Would you do ...?". That is a great start for bringing people on bord with any change, especially de-cluttering. Also, I've been meaning to say, I absolutely love the way you bring your viewers into your home and it feels like we're having a cozy chat together. You have not only made your home presentable for company at a moment's notice, but you have the world able to join you and share your warm, kind, and supportive company! As always, THANK YOU!

My husband has the dining room as his craft room. I put some nice curtains between it and the kitchen so I don't have to look at it. When ever some of our kids move out he will use one of their rooms instead. Win win for both of us. By the way I like your sofa

My husband likes the result of decluttering and minimalism, but not the process. He sees money spent in everything and has a "what if" mindset. I like the new sofa. Now your large family can sit together comfortably. And you are looking amazing, younger. Good for you.

A great video Rachel. I was shouting at you to feed the lamp wire down the corner, ha ha! You have a new sofa, it looks so comfy and plenty of room for you all. On the subject of this video, I'm guilty as charged! I agreed with my husband that we would share the spare room, make it a study for us both to enjoy and then promptly started to fill the whole room with my fantasy self craft stash! He mentioned it several times over the following years ( and I mean several years) but I always had a good reason (excuse) why I had all the stuff. About three years ago, the penny dropped, mostly through watching you speak about clutter. So thank you Rachel, we do now share the room. xx

I started decluttering my own stuff before talking to my husband. I would casually ask my husband if he could keep his tools and work things in his truck, his barn, or his closet. He would watch me decluttering and cleaning then without even being asked he would start picking up his things. He's fairly all or nothing with strong OCD tendencies that he'd go buck wild and the process kind of stressed him out. Now, it's just a matter of maintaining and it's much easier on both of us. If I start decluttering clothes, HE starts decluttering clothes. It's amazing!

You look really pretty, your hair look softer a little longer and are those new glasses? Everything looks softer on you. Love the couch and kudos for putting the lamp together, nice job. My husband is the organized one, I’m the one who needs to declutter, especially clothes, but I’m working on it. Thanks for all the great videos!

Love this video. Listening to your calling voice while you worked on the lamp assembly felt like I could be sitting chatting with a friend in my living room. Great advice! Too bad I didn’t have it when I started decluttering our home about 5 years ago. Lots of arguing 😔 I think things are a bit better now but I could have saved myself and him so much frustration and negative feelings. Oh well. Just keep moving forward

There are cord/cable cover kits you can buy on Amazon. You can even paint them to match the wall. maybe bring the cord where it runs down the corner, or use a simple plant hanger thing on the wall?

Such a great reminder to look at myself first. That really got me motivated today! My husband gets anxious getting rid of anything. He grew up with a lot if deprivation. We have agreed on spaces for his thing but they always end up overflowing. I don't know where to go from here. Just fill the basement with boxes of his things?

Great video! I am lucky because my hubby and I have our own cottage and so I can have mine as minimal as I want to.I learned about cord covers for the overhaed lamp over at Alexadra Gater's you tube channel. That would look nice and neat. What a cozy reading spot! You and Jennifer L Scott inspired me to start intermittent fasting. I find it so easy to do and I have lost five pounds already...

Love this video! You know how I’m dealing with my husband and All. His. Things. on his side table, the generator moved from the bedroom to the dining table…. Well when I asked him to please move the generator off the table, so we can eat as a family at the table. Guess where the generator is now! On my kitchen counter!🤦🏻‍♀️ Gggrrrr Men! I don’t think he’ll ever be on the same page as me with minimalism 🙄 Love the new lamp! Looks great there for reading! 🧡💛🤎♥️🍁🍂

Did you ask him WHERE to bring it? I found it helps to ask family members WHERE I'd like to put them certain things, instead of just asking them to remove them. Otherwise it seems perfectly sensible to them to remove shoes from the dining table to the top of the dresser instead of the shoe rack in the hallway... 🙄😅

It is really interesting, watching You do something while talking. But there’s still something irritating in it. And I found out, that I am irritated by multitasking. To me ir is much healthier to do one thing at a time. With all my love and all of my attention. Not with half of it, because at the same time I try to do something else. I experience that it doesn’t save time to mix tasks and try to do them at once. And I am interested in why you decided to do it this way. 🦋
