I have a few credit cards that I don’t use often. I’ll just make a small purchase every 3 months or so and pay it off immediately after the billing cycle closes so the activity gets reported to the credit bureaus first before paying them off.

You should set up three separate auto pays for random bills.
@tcgtpl
@tcgtpl 2 жыл бұрын
@@samenyasar9153 That's an option, sure, but I'd rather use my regular cards to max the points rewards. For the small purchases, I'll usually do things like a small grocery purchase so I'm not really going out of my way to use the card.

Why not save for 3 months and pay it off with your money for small items
@tcgtpl
@tcgtpl Жыл бұрын
@@cc-iq2bs The number one rule for responsible credit card use is to not spend money you don’t have. Using a dormant card occasionally will keep the account active & work to keep your credit score high, which will come in handy when you need to get a loan for a major purchase, I.e. mortgage for a house. And once you get the dormant card to report that it’s still active by giving you a bill due date for that small item purchase, you pay it off immediately, which means you’re not carrying a balance & therefore not paying interest on your credit card.

Use a credit card just as you would with a debit card and you will get a great credit score and up to 10% back on what you spend. As long as you pay it off in full every month it's much better to have a credit card vs a debit card.

Depends on how "little" a little bit is. You'll have ever-so-slightly less interest on the full amount you will inevitably start having to pay off later, but you're still falling into the credit card trap of spending more money than you actually have, so just pay your full amounts always and on time.

What that means is instead of paying the minimum balance you pay off the card. Example you bought a PS5 for $600 the minimum balance would be $35 on the due date, but instead of paying the minimum you're paying off the full $600. In the credit card world those who pay off their balance in full and never pay any interest are called deadbeats
