You would need to keep the liquor or wine in a lead decanter for an exorbitant amount of time before it would become dangerous. Most modern high end, crystal decanter manufacturers like Waterford or Baccarat still use lead crystal.

Didn't know that about Waterford & Baccarat! Thank you! And yes you are correct. But someone who puts a nice bourbon in there and only pours it a few times a year....that could be an issue. Unless you are saying it takes 30+ years but leeching can happen much sooner than that. (from what i've read....i'm not certified in decanters and only have base info...which I relayed here! :)

@@martigan_drinks well Remy Martin Louis XIII is sold in a lead Crystal baccarat decanter, as well as many other super high end cognacs and in some cases whiskeys as well and they’ll sit in those bottles for years and years and years before even being sold, let alone drank, so if there was a major health issue, I’m sure they would not be doing that with $4000 bottles of cognac and what not…

@@thomasmichael6509 The maximum allowable level of lead in drinking water is 50 micrograms per litre, a concentration that can be exceeded in wines that are kept in crystal decanters for a long time. Port wine can increase its lead concentration up to 50 fold in 4 months, from 90 to 4000 micrograms per litre. Brandy stored over five years can have over 20,000 micrograms per litre. So while there is no problem serving alcoholic beverages from lead crystal decanters at your dinner party, they should not be stored in them for any period of time. Also, Waterford has stopped putting lead in their crystal: www.waterford.com/en-us/discover-waterford/the-waterford-story/your-questions-answered

Terrible advice Lead decanters are perfectly safe for serving What they are not okay for is long term storage If you're going to drink the wine or liquor within a day, you'll be getting less lead from that than is already in your normal food and water supply.
