Carol Rambunny Barnes has lived in Atkins, VA for 16 years. She has hiked the Appalachian Trail 3 times! She has also hiked the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim, some of the Great Western Trail and has done many other section hikes of the AT adding up to over 10,000 miles. Bunny is an experienced hostel caretaker as well. She worked at The Cabin in Maine and ran her own hostel called the Happy Hiker Hostel from 2008-2012. She is a true Trail Angel in Smyth County, Virginia and has been shuttling hikers for 16 years. She has watched the transformation of backpacking go from heavy equipment to the great ultralight gear of today. Bunny knows her stuff.

Thank you so much for sharing this conversation. I follow you on TT and your videos have provided so much motivation and reassurance. I can't explain how inspiring this is to learn from Bunny. I'm a woman just starting to get into solo backpacking and I've struggled with all my anxious thoughts, trying to stay grounded in the feeling that is telling me that I belong out there. Knowing there is a legacy of bad asses before me is extremely comforting

What an amazing woman. As an older...late 50s female solo section hiker, I found much of her advice and experience reassuring. Thank you for bringing this wonderful interview to us!

Ram bunny! I found you! Thanks for sharing your trail name with me so I could track you down. To introduce myself- I am the volunteer who waited on you in the used bookstore in Bryson City this afternoon (10/14/23) when you bought the two issues of AT journals/magazines. It was a great thrill to have a little bit of conversation with you; thanks for that. Btw - my name is on the back of your magazines I believe. I’ll be watching for news of further miles being walked along the Trail.

Rambunny, we are twins! I am 69 year old female, three time ATer. I first heard of the AT when on a hike up Moosilauke at age 14. I have owned a hostel (Hikers Welcome in Glencliff, NH). I am a cancer survivor. My first AT hike was a thru hike in 1996, since then section hikes. I first decided to hike after attending an ALDHA gathering. I would love to get together with you! Did I understand her to say that "Covid" changed the behavior of the bears on the trail? I may have misunderstood her. Has she written a book. Thank again. ❤
@MarionOutdoors
@MarionOutdoors 10 ай бұрын
Yes, she did. Because so many untrained people started hiking the AT because of Covid, bears have been able to get food from humans and expect it. She hasn’t written a book but should! Thank you!

@@MarionOutdoors Thank you for that clarification. The plandemic changed the world. I'd definitely her book if she is ever inspired. Very fascinating teller.
