Good tips! Being too lazy myself to measure the wave, I expect to rely on your 5m tip forever. XP If you don't like the "brown" from terraforming just use the Grass setting of the cultivator. It colors the shore and sea bottom back to sand, and can add cattails and lily pads to very shallow water at the shoreline.

Oh man, I completely spaced the cultivator, that's a great point! So I guess #3 might just be for anyone who likes their base to be asymmetrical.

@@quicksandriggs Your tip #3 was spot on, imo. Building to the shape of the island makes a much more interesting base IMO. This ain't a suburb where everyone's on a tiny square lot. :D

*Tip:* you can use the hoe to build up a central pillar(s) at the island's highest point, then build OUTWARDS from the top of that pillar, since it still counts as ground. This let's you get elevation without needing to use stonework, nor risking your entire edifice collapsing because a sea serpent wants to gnaw on your rocks. *Tip:* your is ln and farmland can be juuuuustttt above water level, and the waves won't affect thier growth.

*Here's another tip:* if you use the hoe to go above the water level by 2 meters around the periphery of your island, then dig down with the pick on its outside until swimming, you can make a "cliff" all around the perimeter. This prevents monsters that swim over from nearby land, and event monsters, from getting ONTO your island! You still have to deal with flying creatures, and trolls can still attack the inside of the island while wading in the (for them) shallows.

Fun fact, you can increase the depth around the island using pickaxe by forcing your character to dive underwater using the 45' roof piece. You can use every tools when your feet is touching the seabed. So if you want an island with a garden that's safe from trolls and goblins, you can use this method to cut a piece of the beach to make an artificial island.

this feature will most likely be erased in future update though, but yeah we can use it while it's still here.

Thanks for the Tips! While I agree Raising Islands can be a pain... there are few alternatives, IF, you intend to Garden. Raising an Island at the boundary of Meadows & Plains is in my mind with buildings (House) on the Meadows side and the Garden on the Plains side... I also intend to build a No Land Island base on Wood/Iron Pilings, Core Wood Pilings or Stone Pillars, Beach House style, later on in game... Boat access only... I’ll have to find the right patch of shallow seabed surrounded by deep water to help keep Trolls from wading out and wrecking the house. 😁👍

That sounds pretty cool, if you ever get it made, I'd definitely like to see it!

hey, 2022 here, do you know if you build on an island with wood foundation and floor, do they take water damage? ya know, do you need to go down there like every day and repair your whole base layer?
@quicksandriggs
@quicksandriggs 2 жыл бұрын
They will take water damage up to half their health. If you don’t mind the rotted wood look, you could leave them and they won’t be destroyed by the water (they will be weaker to attack). If you wanted the new wood look, you’d be repairing it often.

Have an island base. Some monster waives go way above 6m. Luckily they are few and far between.

I have island base fully covered with workbench areas, it is completely safe. At first I had few "holes" in workbench coverage, so flying mobs did actually spawn several times, but I tracked those places down and added more workbenches. Nothing spawns on my base now. Also almost all workbenches are placed in small holes under floor or completely walled in under stone stairs to upper floors, so they don't ruin my base look.

Can you test building a sea wall and see if it breaks up and stops the waves?
@quicksandriggs

A terraformed wall or stone wall? I'm almost certain water goes through all bulding pieces. But I am not as certain on earth.
@dto507

Water goes through both earth and stone wall. Already tested while I tried to make undergound base.

I really appreciate the idea of NOT terraforming ! My husband is a terra-forming nut ;) and I have just done it on auto in my single player game. But it makes perfect sense and I will use that on the island that I have decided to use as my base

Step one: Use pre hoe nerf version and terraform island. Step two: Use current version to build.
