For all the fast talker, speakers, and leaders, if you ever noticed looking back at your presentation or social interaction that you spoke a bit fast (and therefore lost the verbal war), here are 3 quick tips to get you to slow down fast.
Remember, it's not about slowing your speech, but about the variance and balance of both fast and slow pacing of your speech, getting deeper into how to speak so people want to listen to you.

I didn't get in to my last med school application because my interview went horrible. I spoke too fast and they didn't get to understand what I was trying to say then. Hopefully, I am gonna make it this year. Will be using this technique.

I talk too fast and a lot! It has served me well as far as job interviews go and it's perceived as confidence however in reality that's not the case at all, I'm full of uncomfortable nerve wracking adrenaline.... I'm a very nervous anxious person, and when I talk I speak too fast and I get breathless, I also get very lost and forget what I'm saying often repeating the same crap. I suffer with depression and anxiety badly now as a 40 year old and I feel persistently anxious and it's awful. I choose not to have conversations wherever possible using texting and email as preferred alternative options but when I do have to speak with any health professionals for example particularly mental health even they perceive my excessive talking as confidence and they point that out, saying well you're talking a lot now and that I have a lot to say 😂 but also I have that much going through my head and I think subconsciously I feel like I have to get it all out before I forget and usually I do forget hence being repetitive with what I say. Help? 😂 Please lol Also listening is difficult for me, I'm thinking a lot so often don't hear a word of what's said likewise Reading... I can hear or read something for a minute yet haven't absorbed any of it. It's so hard and has made me more nervous 😢

@@just_katrina1065 In my experience, you just have to practice and practice. Practice what the video has taught even if it seems unhelpful. Just try because you never know until you have really, consistently try it. Nothing comes easily at the first attempts. Then try taking up class. I joined a club on public speaking. I gave speech every week to a group of people (even though online) even though I hated it. But I am getting used to it. It is also satisfying. I am aware that everyone is different. Your gene and environment shaped you and it is hard to change. But do not give up. There is always a reason to love yourself. Just because you are not good in communication does not mean you are bad as a person. This just means that you are good in something else. If you are comfortable online, then utilise it. I was also depressed and hated myself. But once I learned that I am not alone, many worse than I am, I feel grateful. This youtube comment section community including you is an example. Just know that you are not alone. And practice, practice, practice.

I had a similar thing where I would need to know context in order to understand (especially when I used to do performing improv) and for me, I had to just be comfortable being honest with not knowing. If I can, I stop the conversation and ask for the person to explain for me the context or I state that it's way over my head, or if it's a very small thing, I just let it slide. That's what worked for me anyway, but might be different for you.
