Don't get in a hurry. I was taught to "Court" a guitar by my father. Play it at least three times on three different days. Your mood etc will be different everytime. If it plays well for you each time, consider buying it. Also, always try the hardest chord for you to make. If you nail it everytime, you just may have found what you need. Don't let the salesmen put pressure on you. Be open and tell them your looking for your guitar and it may the a bit. Impulse purchases can end up sitting in the case because it's really not the instrument for you.

Buy a guitar with active pickups for a wider range tone that can be better shaped to mimic both high and low output sounds. Additionally, consider buying an eight string to form chords with larger, more dissonant intervals. Also, listen to Animals as Leaders for their unique mixture of Progressive Metal and Jazz concepts.

The most important aspect of buying any guitar is to always play it without an amp in the store. If it sounds bad dry, it’ll never sound great amplified and processed. Feel everything including the weight, balance, and how solid everything feels. This is how I ended up buying an American strat from 2002 despite it not being my style or preference at all. Still one of my best ever purchases.

The guitar that made me want to seriously learn wasn’t available when i was a kid and it’s not like it’s a Stratocaster or a les paul where i can find some variations on them. As a Queen fan, brian may’s red special was what i envisioned a guitar ought to be. I have since bought my own and even though i also have les Pauls and strats and teles, the red special will always be the one that got me into playing guitar and thus my favorite guitar.

I cannot tell you how many times I have picked up a premium brand guitar (looking at you Fender and Gibson) and the frets felt terrible when I did bends and vibrato. I have a late 1980s Charvel Model 3 that I've owned from new. It has a Jackson Ultra High Output Ceramic Humbucker in the Bridge position, and it did have two Jackson Vintage Single coils in the neck and middle positions. I replaced the single coils with two Seymore Duncan Hot Rails, installed three toggle switches to split each of the pick-up's individually, designed, built and installed a pre-amp and a push / pull volume pot to give me the active electronics option and my 35 year old Charvel which I loved anyhow has blossomed into my favourite guitar, of which I have quite a few. She can do the 80s high gain hair metal that she was designed for, but now she can put on her Stratocaster dress and turn on that 3 single coil charm and clarity. 🥰🥰🥰🥰

The SG looks great bur it's actually massive. Also your guitar really doesn't matter, you can change out your pickups and strings but by far the biggest impact on the tone is your amplification, FX, and speakers. So just get something that looks cool to you and is comfortable to hold and play.

If you want a guitar that can do it all, a bc rich legacy of either a mockingbird or a rich "B". They have 2 humbuckers with a coil split switch for each of them and a phase switcher. They also have a 5 way varitone which is like having 2 tone dials for the same pickup (it gives more options). It has all the general stuff like pickup selector, 2 volume, 1 tone, 24 frets. You can get either of these in either hard tail or floyd rose and for the rich "B" you can get it in double neck with a 12 string. If you don't mind having a funny shaped guitar that will be a nightmare to get a case for, you can get a guitar that can do most things

1. The feel of the neck: the curve of the back of the neck, the fretboard radius. 2. String action. How straight is the neck? 3. The body. Is it not too heavy. Is the body comfortable? e.g. does it have contours like a Stratocaster or Jazzmaster, etc. The sound, price, and looks of a guitar are important, but you should also pay attention to the ergonomics of playing guitar. Especially if you are going to practice or play for extended periods of time.

@@satishdass7460 you are overpaying for a guitar, the Dave mustaine V is maybe worth $1k retail. I own the silver one and I was sorely disappointed with what I received, it feels like the guitar had potential but it’s held back by Gibson’s quirks and habit of charging $1500 more for a guitar than they should. If you want a high quality Flying V-style guitar, I’d probably get a Schecter sls elite(has the traditional Flying V shape with modern metal specs) or I’d get an LTD arrow(more like a Rhoads, but definitely the best V-shaped guitar I’ve ever played).

@@bigbo1764 I tried it for the first time yesterday, and you're right it doesn't feel worth the 5k Australian dollars. It's a great guitar though, lightweight, great sound and easy playability. It will hold its worth as well for a while. I wouldn't mind paying for it though as I've always wanted a mustaine signature. I know for sure though that the e2, ltd and schecter are far superior built (I own a few ltds and schecters) as they remain unscathed no matter how much they get used. But the Mustaine guitar is inspiring, just disappointed that they would not focus on quality (the knobs and switch felt cheap).

I like to play Metallica and heavy metal esc songs the most but I really enjoy the feel of playing a tele or a strat, lighter and more comfortable. The SG was an option for me until I actually played it for the first time after played my just a strat for years and I just could never get used to it
