Thanks for the tips! I'm curious about how to go about actually obtaining direct contact info for companies posting these listings because often I feel like the publicly listed email address, especially for a larger companies does not connect you directly with right people within the company who will be interested in your services. The email addresses for marketing and production managers are often not publicly available.

Ah! This was super helpful and timely, thanks Ben! My only question is, what exactly IS a case study? You mention doing one will help, but is it a project that you've already done? Or do you mean, it's more of a project breakdown where you go through how it was made, even if it doesn't directly relate to who you're reaching out to? From the Cider/Beer example you gave, seems like you would include a script from a previous project.... but what if you've not had any before?
@simplysurfing
@simplysurfing Жыл бұрын
A case study is nothing but a recap of how you met and worked with a client and how it solved their problem and what the client feels, even better if the client chimes in there and it becomes quasi testimonial kinds.

Hey Ben, I've got a question about the contacting companies tip. I've been doing this for a while but I noticed like only a small percentage actually respond and then they only respond something like "looks neat, we will add you to the list of people we can contact if we ever need such thing". And this sucks cause it just feels like they are just being nice and responding but they arent really ever gonna contact me. Is this something they just use to be nice or do you actually think that there is a "list"?
@MotionHatch
@MotionHatch 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Cappy. I think most companies actually do have a list. Also, I would recommend you follow up when you have new work or something new to show them.
@BenMarriott
@BenMarriott 3 жыл бұрын
There probably is a list, but it's also likely they might not contact you as well. You won't get hired by the vast majority of companies you email. But you only need a hand full of clients to get consistent work throughout the year.
@grosgato

About 10 years ago I contact a company and Yes, I have a meeting with them ... But never call back ... And a day - almost 6 or 7 years later, they come to me for job..and I have several work period with them ... Yes - list exist and when all people above you is hired somewhere - do anything else - working out - yes they come to you - finally ...
@simplysurfing
@simplysurfing Жыл бұрын
You are 100 percent right. They will 99% not contact you. They have a canned reply like that just to let you down softly. They do it all the time so they even have a template reply like that. The fact that they claim they have a list (if true) shows they collect info from all your competitors and then price bargain with them if and when they need something.

Hi Vicky I would recommend when you start out charging a project fee you just base it on how long it would take you to make rather than the length of the video. This is because all animations all not created equal, one 30 sec animation could take you weeks while another could take you just 2 days.
@leoLorenzi
@leoLorenzi 3 жыл бұрын
You should charge based on how long the animation took to complete.
@Animotion1
@Animotion1 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Vicky, I agree with people above. You should charge based on how long it'll take you to do the work. Because sometimes a 1min animation can take longer than 3min. It does depend on duration but also complexity of animation. Tbh it is hard to kinda gauge how long it'll take you especially in the beginning of your career. But I think personally it's better to slightly overcharge than undercharge. I heard somewhere if your client is quick to say yes, that might mean you undercharge them! For me personally, charging takes getting used to and skill. You'll get better in time. I hope this helps. I also got a video talking about how to get clients on my channel! Feel free to check it out xx

I agree 100% with what Motion Hatch and Animotion have shared. Length is definitely a factor, but not the only one. :)
