David is so well trained in not saying "uh" anymore, that he can't even act naturally as if he's using the filler sound in an example. Brilliant. That's the level we all want ha

Hey David! In two weeks I graduate from Swedish gymnasiet, and I’ve been taking a rhetorics class over my third and final year. While the course gave me a strong foundation, your videos, TEDxTalks, and lessons gave me the tools necessary to build an incredible skill and passion on top of that foundation. What you are sharing is not the typical “Just believe in yourself!” kind of motivation, but actually concrete and useful knowledge. I know this because I’ve been putting it to the test, and actually seen real improvement in my own public speaking, storytelling and day-to-day conversation. I’ve never felt more inspired to take things to the next level like this before, and for that, I cannot thank you enough!

Our german foreign minster Annalena is using only filling sounds. She is mislabelling the easiest words (e. g. "Tailsban") and tips her tongue on every other set of words (e. g. "gefanzerte Pahrzeuge" instead of "gepanzerte Fahrzeuge"). She is the best public speaker I have ever seen and voters love her for this treat as it shows "humanity". On the other hand she will make us prey in an atomic stand-off with russia, which is very unhuman, but people deny to see it as she is such a lovely speaker. So you should add a 111th parameter which is "being Annalena".

I use filler sounds sometimes but only when I have to figure out how to say something more simpler if I see that the person I am talking to doesn't understand the terminology. Often when a day begins my brain for some reason decided that it will give me one word to "fill" the gaps. It is fun because the most common fill up word i use "classic". For example (I will put the filler words in ) when someone doesn't know what is the word "interface". I go like: it is a window You see on a computer it is represented as GUI graphical user interface. It is what You see on the screen. When it comes to the hand gestures I always use them because I learned that people better comprehend the things when they can "see" them.

Hey! I think you’re so great at your craft and I was wondering if you could help me out with a problem of mine. You see I have an anxiety problem and so whenever I have to speak publicly (which is a lot), I forget to stop to breathe. I don’t talk fast, it’s just, I forget to breathe and my focus is completely on talking and getting my point across. Could you at all give me some tips to fix this?
@MasterTalks

Of course Rebecca, the key to anxiety is to focus on who you want to help and it will slowly go away. Hope this helps, you'll be great I'm sure. :)

I dunno about that first one, my "uhs" are never that long. Also, I find if I don't use filler sounds, people think I'm done speaking when I ain't finished yet 😐 As an introvert, that hurts... Funnily enough though, in my videos, I still end up cutting out both filler sounds and silences to save time lol I feel like there's no avoiding it for me though

Is it a good thing if I "create" my props when gesturing? For example when I bring up a pencil or a biro I will put my index finger and thumb together on both hands in front of me and make a horizontal line to "create" my invincible pen, then I grasp it in the air just like how I hold a pen and then in make additional indicators like writing motion or "clicking" the biro or put the pencil behind my ear. Even behind my ear, for me, it's always there, so I am likely to use it again as the conversation further progresses.
@MasterTalks
@MasterTalks 3 жыл бұрын
Great question Jekyll, you don't necessarily need props when gesturing, focus more on presenting the same time multiple times, that's the best place to put your efforts and focus. You'll be great I'm sure.

I was curious if there are aspects of body language/speech which have a different impact based on your gender. Are there certain things that men should try to do that women would be better off to avoid, for one (presumably psychological) reason or another? (and visa-versa)
