From what I remember (I’m 79) my mother used a ‘full head’ hair band, so she could do the rolls high on the sides and used the part visible over the top of her head to anchor her waves. (Good Heavens, I’m walking history!)

Is this going to be helpful to me and my 4c hair? No. Am I still watching because Karolina? Yes.

Would love to see some 30s content, I feel like the 20s gets so much attention since it's the jazz age and the 40s also does because of WWII and the swing era. But ppl don't really get the 30s... for example how did the style transition from no waist to small waist. The hairstyles too!

Wow...I haven't thought about anyone "setting" their hair in ages! My great-grandmother used to set her short hair in a ton of pin curls with Dippity Do on all of them. She'd wrap a do-rag around it & in the morning pull it all out & somehow floof it up & make it look good. I was always amazed how she did it & how so many Shirley Temple-like ringlets turned into a good looking hairdo.

One possible solution (which I tried on my lazy ass wrt skincare, esp. skinmasks) is not to wait till midnight with your evening toilletries. Do it at 8 or 9 p.m. and do some other things you do before sleep (like watching a series or doing things on the Internet) already in your evening attire. It still doesn't work for me all the time, but it works more often than it used to.

This video (especially the early parts) reminded me of my grandmother, who was at her fashion peak in the 40s and early 50s. These vaguely resemble some of her earlier photos, but she eventually switched to permanents. (which I remembered oddly when you said "too lazy to set") This video resonates with me because through her, I always associated the 40s with those harsh permanents that not only had an awful scent (that could also seep into wallpaper, permanently affecting a room's atmosphere), but could actually result in *hair loss* if applied improperly. I was turned off from that decade's realities due to those factors. Seeing such elegant hairstyles done with no pre-prep or even chemicals is kind of literally a breath of fresh air.

I totally use a long skinny lipstick for my rolls and standing pin curls! Even with victory rolls because my hair is so long it keeps the rolls tight and contained! lol I thought I was the only one😝

Love these! I've been doing a lazy Gibson Girl for work lately and it my current go-to for second day hair.

Imagine having thick enough hair that you can actually section parts of it and still have enough left over to get the right look at the back. Can not relate. I have plenty of length (my hair is hip length) but baby fine hair. And two bobby pins? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Just to keep a bun in a bun net it used to take my Mum 200 bobby pins. Like we had two sets of 100 and they all went in! Then lots of hairspray to keep it in place. I still love watching stuff like this. Like even if I could do it I probably wouldn't because that level of effort is just nah. I wouldn't manage to do anything else if I did that. I only have so many spoons.
