It’s all very well and good talking about watches that do this, that and the other, that have all the bells and whistles-but at some point someone actually has to wear the things, and if they want to do so for any kind of duration, a little thing called ergonomics is going to have to get involved. It’s no good if a watch is too heavy, too loose, the crown digs in or the bracelet is too tight. A watch must be sized correctly for you, and scientists tell me that the perfect sized watch for the average human being is exactly 39mm. So, here’s three of them.

Suggestion for a future video: evolution of lume. From radium, to tritium, to LumiNova, to Super-LumiNova; patina, tritium gas tubes, miscellaneous oddities. Why lume mostly glows in blue and yellow-green. Of course with some cool examples and macro shots ;)

Tbf to Tag Heuer, their QC is so much better these days. Ever since Jean Claude Biver stepped in, the brand took things up a level. If you look at the finish across the Carrera Heuer01, Heuer 02's and 2017 Autavia, they are very up scale !

The carrot story completely had me going for a while there, so on that note I’ll try my own bit of subterfuge & try to palm my wife off with a little Seiko quartz tank (lovely but inexpensive), instead of a Cartier that she’s been after ever since she became disturbingly obsessed with the voice from a pair of talking hands. Great video, as usual. One small historical correction: the bombing campaign of Britain was called “the blitz”. Blitzkreig was a type of warfare involving coordination of armour, infantry and air power. Mostly associated with German tactics early in WWII.

For the longest time the Rhodium dial OP39 was my grail. I purchased the watch and absolutely loved it's elegant, but simple look. It was also a pleasure to wear...vs. the majority of my 41-45 mm divers. Eventually the dial color fell out of favor as it's only in a darker environment does the deep Rhodium shine. Outside in the SoCal sun the dial is much more lighter and loses it's richness. I let it go and purchased the DJ 41 smooth/jubilee in blue. I enjoyed my time with the OP and it's a beautiful watch.

Agree! I owned a 39mm Red Grape OP and while it was a nice watch, it loses some of its class in the larger size. It's all dial so it wears bigger than the measurements suggest. A 36mm OP or Datejust is perfect when it comes to Rolex sizing. I now have a blue "3,6,9" OP 36 that will go to my daughter as I wore it for her birth.

I guess because for the last few years the trend gravitated towards larger watches so everyone is already slightly biased towards bigger cases, hence why the slightly larger 40mm watches are absolute king right now. But thats just speculation

Only one thing disturbed me : the fact that we see a reflexion in the Rolex, and that this person doesn't move his lips when speaking. But it's great to see that this channel isn't owned by a pair of hands and a (really relaxing and beautiful) voice !

That IWC Spitfire in ceramic is a limited edition I believe. The current ceramic alternative is the Top Gun version which I could bear if it didn't actually say Top Gun on the dial

39-40 mm is definitely the best size for most. You have to take into account lug to lug also because it plays a major role on how to watch wears on the wrist. There are 36 mm Rolexes like the Oyster Perpetual that wears more like a 38-39mm just because of the lug to lug dimensions.

I personally think the ideal size for a non-dive watch is between 34 and 36 mm. Dress watches can be smaller- 31 for a circular watch, 25ish for a tank.nicw video, either way.

My OP 39 Rhodium dial is inferior to my GSs in almost every way. But I didn't buy it with my head. Maybe it was the pop of blue or it's understated elegance, or the fact that it flies under the radar of the SS sports models, but I absolutely love it. I stuck mine on a leather strap and it turns into a whole different watch. It was also my son's birth year and it will be his one day. Rolex says "every Rolex tells a story" I guess that was mine.

The new Oyster Perpetual has the quick set adjustment. Released last week. But its 41 mm now.

As another person mentioned, the new OPs have EasyLink, giving you 5mm of adjustment. With that said, there are also three micro-adjustments within the clasp you can adjust with a tool.

I am an absolute noob at watches....really can’t even stand wearing one....but I am a big fan of precision engineering which draws me to them. That Spitfire is an unusual looking watch. Not sure I have ever seen one before in what looks like a ceramic case. Looks a lot like the Top Gun model but it clearly states Spitfire on the dial. Anyone know the model number?

Wait, wait, wait... the 1957 Speedmaster DIDN'T have lyre lugs or an asymmetrical case... that wouldn't happen until the Speedmaster Pro was released in 1963 (reference ST 105.012).

Putting the crown at the 3 o clock position is the worst thing you could do for ergonomics. It just makes the watch bigger with a metal protrusion that digs into your skin when you use your hands. Some watches put it at 4 O clock which is a great improvement.

The Rolex featured is a cool piece, but lack of any bracelet adjustment is not so practical. You may as well save up the difference for a Datejust. A 5mm easy link adjustment is really all you need once correctly sized.

Did that IWC Spitfire get after market PVD coating? I don't think IW326801 exists in a black case. All Pilots with black cases are ceramic and are part of the Top Gun collection (with the exception of special editions like for Hodinkee). If that's the case, the IWC is far from a perfect watch ;)

Great video. I know it's not typical or beneficial for Watchfinder as these are quartz pieces, but to cover Braun old&new, Mondaine, Swatch and even quartz Cartiers would be an interesting feature to view, and who knows, maybe you may choose to stock these in the future too! Many thanks.

I have an Oyster Perpetual 39mm in Red Grape. Will probably rather get another one with a different color instead of getting a more expensive once. Such a timeless and smart looking watch. Additionally, you see it way less than the other types.

The Rolex oyster perpetual in rhodium will be in my collection in the end of 2022! So much craftsmanship, beauty, and pedigree in one package. Though I'll be fitting it with an oysterflex rubber strap

1:20 the hour hand is also.. ughhh. For $3K you'd expect a better quality, especially with limited edition. Compared to Rolex and IWC this is just a very sloppy job.

Great footage as ever, Nice 3 piece meal deal combo right there too! I have a request for a watch review. Its the Breitling SuperOcean GMT A32380. I have no experience with it, never seen one in the wild hence my request. Maybe you could pit it as an alternative for a GMT Master II or Black Bay GMT, I can’t find any reviews or decent footage of it at all, not even the breitling forum has given me much. Now im not sure if it’s because its a soft model or it had a short production run. Looking forward to a response. Cheers.
