The Google Home Hub & other Google Home speakers have the ability to to be used as a Bluetooth speaker or can pair to a larger Bluetooth speaker or Bluetooth headphones. 3rd party Google Assistant speakers and smart displays cannot currently pair to a separate speaker but can Bluetooth from your phone.
Pairing with your phone allows you to easily play music from from non cast supported apps like Audible, Apple Music and music stored only on the phone.

@@TechWithBrett but if you pair a speaker to a GH device is there a way to make both the GH device and the paired BT speaker both play the audio at the same time instead of choosing either one or the other as default can you select both as default?

@@TechWithBrett Google has removed yet another essential feature from its Hub/Nest device. Previously, if you connected external BT speakers to the Hub, it would play media (music etc.) on the BT speakers, but the Assistant would respond through the built in Hub /speaker. This is reflected in Google's own support documents: Google Nest Help - Help Center, where it says: "Note: All media playback will play on the external speaker that’s paired with the Google Nest or Home device. Alarms, timers and Google Assistant's responses will play on your Google Nest or Home device." This worked well, and in my case it was essential to my audio set up, as I prefer to power off my receiver/amp when not playing music, but the BT stays connected because it is a separately powered external receiver that passes the audio to my stereo and its connected speakers. I also imagine that if you used BT headphones with the Hub you would still want the ability for other users to communicate with the Hub while you were listening to music. It is such a shame that Google has cut back the abilities of the Hub instead of expanding them. A few years back they eliminated the ability to cast music to the hub from an Android phone. The motion sensing feature had such potential (it could have expanded to volume control, for example). Very sad!

Thankyou for this, had nothing but problems since getting my nest hub, the quality was awful when it was connecting or just not playing sound at all out my bluetooth speakers then if i tried to switch back to the standard nest speaker that wouldnt play sound either but since using the voice commands for disconnect and connect it's been working fine

Brilliant video. Wish I just seen this before I bought a lenovo smart clock. (It isn't compatible pairing to external speakers via bluetooth) I funnily enough also bought a Harman Kardon onyx studio speaker last week ( it is unbelievable for sound!!!) and want to play all my music (including group devices) through my Harman Kardon speaker in my bedroom. Would you recommend returning the Lenovo Smart clock (I never opened it yet) and purchasing Google Nest Hub smart display instead or would you recommend just getting a chromecast audio? ( even though I'm aware they are discontinued) Your advice would be appreciated 👍

Now I can play music from google home mini with wifi to a bt dongle connected to my pc mic in set to listen - while gaming off mobile hotspot connection at the same time outputting both audio through the one line to my amp. No lag now when a new song plays :)

Thanks, the only way to us the Home Hub to make calls via Google Duo. Phone calls from the phone can't router through the Bluetooth.

Thank you for the detailed videos... I have a question, if you can answer.. From my country I cant make normal phone calls.. first.. so I thought I could do a Duo Video call on my mobile while the mobile is connected to the Google Home Nest Mini via Bluetooth...and hear the voice in the nest mini.... I just could not do that.. When Playing Call of Duty, the speaker said its on Max Volume, but I could not hear anything (but youtube videos or general songs are loud enough)... Can you suggest especially while making a video call via Duo and to hear on the Nest Mini.. Thank you.

Hey Brett. Thanks for the informative video. I bought a bluetooth speaker specifically for the bathroom and I don't want all audio to play out of that speaker all the time by making it default speaker. Can I just connect the bluetooth speaker and then specify when I want it to play on the bluetooth speaker. For example all I want to do is rename the speaker with shower can I say " hey google play x on shower speaker" instead of having to connect and reconnect it. Any information on this would be helpful. Thanks

I might need to double check but once you are paired you should be able to just as Google Assistant to, "Turn off Bluetooth" to disconnect and, "Turn on Bluetooth" to reconnect.

As far as I know only Bluetooth audio devices will work. Not sure if those would be compatible without some kind of hub receiver.

What if I have a BT device that is NOT a speaker? I have a roller shade motor that uses a BT remote that has an app. Any ideas how that might work with GH? (I have some older "smart" plugs that are BT as well. I don't use them because I have newer wifi plugs, but it would be interesting to get those working, too.)

Do you know if you can pair a phone by Bluetooth to an assigned speaker group? I have 3 Google Home Minis and a Google Home Nest Mini assigned as speaker group Shipwide and I often have trouble getting any one of the minis to play music I request through the entire group. Has Google updated the software on their assistant devices and do they automatically download the updates?

it seems to work but there is side effect making it useless. If I am playing music on the group and I unlock the note 10+ the music stops playing on the group, and if you ask google to resume playing it says there is nothing playing on the group.

are you able to connect the nest to a bluetooth ADAPTER? to be clear, this isnt a bluetooth speaker, but rather an adapter i use to pair to my stereo reciever. so I want to pair Nest to adapter, so music will play through stereo speakers. thanks.

As long as the adapter can send out a pairing signal it should work through the Google Home application.

Hi, any idea why I am able to pair my iPhone and iPad to my google nest hub, but when I try to add my Apple TV to be able to Bluetooth the audio, the best hub isn’t visible on my Apple TV when searching for Bluetooth devices. I’ve been googling for days now and can only find info on nest mini and it’s telling me to do what I’m already doing but it’s just not showing up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Both Apple TV’s are the HD models and not the new 4K so not sure if that’s what the issue is.

Nest hub gen 2 is not playing music via my Bluetooth speaker. Purchased yesterday, 20/01/2024, updated to latest version of software. Will pair with Samsung sound bar J-series and Phone, Nokia 3.4, and headphones, Liquid Ears LE20BTOHBK. But will only play through display speaker and will only allow display speaker as default. However, here's a strange it will play via my headphones but still show display speaker as default not headphones. Seems to be a major problem all over the World.

You would need two Google Home Mini's for this. It can only play must from the Google Home Mini or the Bluetooth speaker but not at the same time.

Link Eufy Security in the Google Home app. Then you will just ask Google to show you the front door. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hbuKac2BzszVgIk.html I don't believe there is a way to automatically have the doorbell display on screen.

Not with the Chromecast. If your TV has Bluetooth it might be possible.

I made a playlist on my Samsung music app. If i sub to Google Play Music, will it adapt my playlist? And if not? How can i transfer it to Google Play Music?? I'm trying to be able to play my playlist on my mini. It won't play Samsung music by command! I don't know why they don't add it to the option list? Awhile back i tried the free trial and it took 3 days to load 3k songs and stopped! I have over 10k songs. I figured i need to pay and it will fully load? Also was soposed to get free KZfaq upgrade? It did neither! So i canceled it! What do i need to do ? Is the tech not available yet? Thank's for helping!

That is when you will want to use the Pair Bluetooth option to easily play your phone music to the Mini. If you want to upload your purchased music to Google Play Music search for Google Play Music Uploader. Put the music from your phone in the music folder on your computer and it can then upload all the songs and then you can cast them from the Google Play Music app to your Mini and create playlists and such.

You can just select a specific folder to upload instead of uploading it all.

Pulling my hair out! I have 2 different Bose bluetooth speakers and I cannot pair to work with Alexa. Trying to use with my Android phone and have been unsuccessful. Before I look into purchasing a Google hub how will I know if it will work? Alexa wouldn't even recognize one my Bose SoundLink Color I. My other speaker is a Bose SoundDock 10. I just can't get anything to work so I can have both speakers playing the same music. Help?

@@TechWithBrett well the options you have weren't listed until i turned on wifi and finally got them to appear. Once i got it to connect to the Bluetooth speaker and added it as the default music player i told it to play a song and no sound played. I disconnected from that BT speaker and the song picked up on the nest a quarter of the way in so it was playing just not sending to the BT speaker.
