Crashes on me all the time then my file ends up corrupt to the point it’s easier to start over and redraw then to try and continue after a crash. Inventor is much easier to draw in and no issues like it but mostly it’s post processing where it crashes so I’m looking for an alternative.

April 2023,,, I have been using Fusion 360 Electronics for 6 months. 2 to 3 random crashes each and every day in that time. Tried 3 different computers in that time, no difference, crashes same way on all of them. No Fusion error reports of any kind, just a fatal windows crash message. Timed auto backup doesn't work either so lost work every time.

@@alanmcampbell no i made a workaround i start a New design save it and import the design or stepfile i want to edit and as long i don't close the file i can do everything i want with it ,printing or cutting it, and when ok save it as a new design , when i open it a few days later i can't edit it and the story begins again, as a hobbyist and not paying for it my complanes about fusion are maybe not not important enough to react to that's my second reason not to buy a subscription for a tool that doesn't work. Before the update in february it worked all ok after that it wend downhill so onshape is my goto if i have a design that needs constant tweeling without al these unnessary steps

Much respect as I think you are one of the very best. However, while you guys are playing with solid models, I'm already making chips. To believe that creating a solid model every time you need a NC program is efficient, is frankly nuts. Again, much respect to you. You are one of the best instructors I have ever seen. My comments are not aimed at you, just the Fusion 360 workflow. But then again, I should not complain to much as we get what we pay for with "Rent-a-CAM".

Thank you so much for watching and for commenting. One of my favorite features in Fusion is that you can drive sketch geometry with CAM. I agree with you, you don't always need solids...Actually sometimes you just need the controller and a macro or two :-)

Hi Lars! We have a little guitar company in the north Indian Himalayas and as we have new guys coming in and learning CAD and CAM for CNC, I've been trying to figure out which software to commit to. I've downloaded Fusion 360 using 3 different email addresses, so I've had several weeks of trial over the past year or so. Unfortunately I always run up against crashing that I just can't understand how to get around. Mainly I've been trying to model our vacuum table, which is a rectangular pattern of bodies (26 units x 18 units). I'm running up against my last few days with this latest trial and I just can't commit to purchasing the software, because I have no confidence that I'll be able to use it to model if it keeps crashing. I was hoping with this video you might be telling us about specific issues that cause crashes, showing us both how to crash 360 in typical ways, and some workarounds to avoid those types of crashes. Would you consider doing a video like that?

My father is using a slightly older MacBook Pro and he's struggling with poor performance, hangs, and sluggishness. Whereas I'm running an i7-4790 with an SSD , 8GB om memory and a Radeon HD6800. So far it's running OK. It could be better but it's fine. But he's been frustrated with his Mac as well. I was thinking that they weren't really spec'd for 3D work but if Lars uses one, it's probably age or a driver thing.

Geez once a week? Sounds like a lot to me even if you are handling large files with a lot of components. With hardware being what it is today, I would think maybe every few months would be more realistic. Granted we aren't using workstations on par with Dreamworks or anything but still.

Thank you for the information Lars. I have a friend that is busy learning Fusion but there is one problem... Her fusion doesn't want to start-up. We did an installation (didn't work) we did an uninstall and still it doesn't work. I then did a search on the internet to see if I could find a similar issue on this matter with no prevail. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix a problem like this? Once again thank you for the epic live sessions.\m/

Good day Lars Christensen. Thank you for the information. I am sending you this message as to inform you that I got the program to work. It was due to a corrupt installation that the program didn't work. I had to do a fusion cleanup and then I did a reinstall. Working perfect now. Thank you once again. Greetings from South Africa

Lars, First off, because of you, I primarily use Fusion 360. I am a Hobbyist and just Love the fact that, almost, everything that I can think of, I can create. My problem Lies in Ball Joint Swivels. I can Design them and print them but they are all too weak where the ball connects to the shaft and it constantly breaks. I have even tried printing it on its side so the print lines are vertical instead of horizontal. Again I am a noob and just about everything I know about Fusion 360 I learned from you. Any Tips, Ideas. Thanks so much for all that you do for us. YOU ROCK!!! Oh! by the way it's for 3d printing on a creality CR-10 ( upgraded to CR-10S).
@cadcamstuff
@cadcamstuff 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael Osborne Thank you for watching! I will not claim to be a 3D print expert. Have you tried some heavy radii between the shaft and the ball? You could also print them separately and connect them together with a metal rod of some sort

Hi Lars. Fusion 360 ignores my tool offsets (lengths) in my Mach3 tool table, crashes my tools into the table! Any ideas? Thanks
@ExMachinaEngineering
@ExMachinaEngineering 6 жыл бұрын
Fusion 360, like all CAM systems, only pushes out a code that tells the controller (Mach3 in this case), to use the tool length offset. What you set up inside Fusion is only for proper simulation purposes. So the actual tool offsets need to be set up inside Mach 3. And keep in mind that tool offsets in a CNC mill are just the offsets from the tool that you use to set work Z height. So every time the machine sees, for example, Z0 it knows how much higher or lower to go depending on the tool it is currently working with.
@bernie5394
@bernie5394 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks but when I hand program, Mach3 uses all my tool offsets. There is something inside Fusion that tells Mach3 not to use the tool table offsets. (The tool offset screenswitch becomes unavailable under Fusion).

Does the code you output in Fusion 360 have a G43 in it?
@bernie5394
@bernie5394 6 жыл бұрын
Program starts with a G49 call (no tool offset), but calls G43 prior to Z calls. Thanks

Hi Bernard Lewis Thank you for watching! I would look for a sample program in my manual and test that one the machine. Code is code, so if it is not working, you know you have a machine error. If it idoes, then it is a post issue and I would recommend you go here: forums.autodesk.com/t5/hsm-post-processor-forum/bd-p/218 Best, Lars

Fusion just froze on me. Im not sure if this is the same thing as the program "crashing". I went to import a bushing from the McMaster Carr catalog and the program just wont respond to anything i do. Figure im going to have to just close out and reopen the program, but its fairly odd i think that one little bushing would do this when it didn't have any issues with Nema motors and lead screws being imported. And while i'm commenting, am i the only one who has more issues with fusion 360 than Autocad? I feel like the hotkeys were more intuitive in Autocad than they are in Fusion, and i cant for the life of me figure out how to change the plane im working on like i can with the UCS function in Autocad. And the way that the presspull function works in fusion, I HATE it. Why it has to automatically attempt Fillets and such when i want to Presspull, IDFK, but its BS I think. Parametric Modeling is all fine and dandy, but i could lay out a set of plans in Autocad with ease, and every time i go to use fusion its just one headache after another. A lot less productive i think, less intuitive than its made out to be. Maybe i just haven't spent enough time using the program, but to have to completely change my methods for modeling from one Autodesk platform to another is lame.

Hi Lars, I can make fusion 360 cash every time I open it if I don't change the DirectX settings for my video card, it was funny I installed the 30 day trial and got it working, and after 30 days I had to do everything all over again after renewing the license. I also lost all the stuff I had made in the cloud, that I didn't expect. One more thing is there away to make sense of all the file extension in the fusion folder; like .f2d , .fd3, _xx and d8fb0231-4165-481d-a990-aecb836fe45c - I'm sure this is some kind of a file rev of a file but have to open it to see of what.keep up the good work learning every day.
@welbot
@welbot 6 жыл бұрын
.f3d is the native file format that Fusion saves your work in. (If you choose Save As, and choose to save a copy locally instead of in the cloud, it will create a .f3d file. Given that, I assume that .f2d would be a 2D sketch document, but I've personally never seen one of those files. The .xx files are actually XML files which are used to communicate with the cloud. They contain data about where you file is stored, unique project ID etc. As for the long string of numbers/letters, I believe this would also be a unique file ID, to associate related files to a version. You'll notice there is an f3d file, an xx file and a png for each one. The f3d file is the actual data, the xx file talks to the cloud, and the png is the thumbnail you see in the library. So that unique ID at the end of each file (before the extension) would change each time you save a new version.
