Oof your agility class sounds awful!! Really not how they should be run at all. Super late comment but glad you are being honest in this video about how hard these things can be and particularly for this breed. Honestly, I would never have got the breed from a puppy, but I recently ended up adopting an adult working cocker that we fostered initially. We have been incredibly lucky that she doesn’t have many of the issues so many of the others in her breed have, I’ve never once heard her bark, she’s great on the lead and quite calm generally, but she still does have that ‘working’ drive so we can do lots of trick training (and agility). She is already 3 though so I’m sure that helps. But the jealous thing - omg, my other dog is so chill compared to her, she gets so jealous the moment I pay another dog attention! I’m curious about what made you decide you wanted a working cocker considering they are so difficult! I haven’t seen your earlier videos did you talk about this in one of them?

I think it’s worth noting that as autistic people it’s so hard for us to own a pet because the intense emotional impact they have and the amount of hyper focus we use on things is sometimes soul destroying. I lasted a year with our dog and I just couldn’t cope tbh and she wasn’t bad x

I’m glad you do all the good and bad things about owning Oakley and not just the good like other people. I have a working cocker who will be 1 in 11 days! Also first 😊

Your Oakley videos of when you got him were how I found your channel as we got a puppy around the same time. How about a daily routine video with him, getting him up, feeding, a walk, play time, grooming? 🐶

We have a 9yr old working cocker, we trained him as a gun dog and he works the shoot with my husband. We are getting another working cocker puppy in 5 weeks time to train as our second gun dog. You're doing so well, they are such hard work. I can't imagine how hard ours would be (even at 9yrs old) if we didn't work him. Could you maybe hire a private field to walk Oakley off lead and burn of more energy and you both feel safe? Maybe have a look at gun dog trainers/training and try swapping the tennis ball for a dummie 😊 give yourself some credit, they are such high energy and hard work dogs ❤ sorry if you've spoken about/tried this before, I just found your channel today 😊 Oakley looks lovely, keep smiling x

I have a Show cocker who's only a few months younger than Oakley and hell... you sure went with "difficult" settings on the dog game. XD I can only imagine how much energy and stubborness is chanelled in this little body. I started watching your videos before I got Ivo and during the first months and I felt your struggle. Walking on the lead is still a challenge for us as well, but it's getting there. I would have suggested the long lead as well, but I see you are already using that. Only thing I would suggest is to attach it to a harness instead of the collar, for the simple reason that this minimizes risks of injuries in the neck area. Just like you do it with the Flexi leash. As for the anxiety, I am sure you have heard all of this before, but it does sound like a bit of controlling issues are mixed in. Ivo used to trail me like a shadow. This has become way better. But we also had set backs after certain situations where I left him in somebody's care or when I left him in my office for an hour or so. This, too, has become better, so I really would not give up on that! Cockers are very sensible on top of their energy level being top peak. Don't get discouraged by your "setback". Whatever has caused this, you'll be able to work this through. You have done it before and you wil again! :3

I believe they talk about show cocker's being a first-dog breed but it also relies on the dog it's self

Hello lovely- thank you for the videos. Are you 100 percent sure that he is a full cocker spaniel? He seems quite large for one. Could he not be a Sprocker spaniel? The mix of cocker and springer.

Hi. I’ve got a male 6 month old cocker spaniel. The only lead he doesn’t pull on is the head halti… gentle leader. 😊 if I try to walk him on anything else he just pulls like a train.

I am on my third chihuahua. The other 2 were easy. Why? Because they were submissive by character. The third which i own now is difficult because she wants to be the boss- meaning she is a dominant dog. Thats just the difference. A submissive dog understands a NO after 5 times. A dominant dog wont understand a NO after 40 times.
