A very informative video, well done. There are a few items I'd like to point out: like other hobbies, it is true information isn't really out there with a quick search. As you mentioned, there are groups out there for A1U, the reddit one being a popular one - there you will find a great wealth of modding information in their "about" and "menu" tabs. Every home arcade needs to have at least one multicade. An A1U can be a perfect candidate for that, especially a dirt cheap one, but I feel gutting a perfectly working one just to replace the main board with a PC (or other single board chip) plus all the other components defeats the purpose of an A1U - it's no longer a mod, as you said, but a full conversion; even down to replacing the skin of the cabinet. One of the key things you touched on that makes these little 3/4 scale tributes special is that they're officially licensed - which has never been done before in this size for the home. For those wanting a multicade in the home, I highly recommend AtGames Legends Ultimate line. The build quality is slightly better, and there's almost no need to upgrade parts. The best feature the ALU has over the A1U cabs is its ability to hook to a PC or even just a thumb drive, to add more games - even CoinOpsX that was featured here! Less tinkering, and no gutting of a working cabinet 👍 But with all that said, great video, and let's continue sharing this great hobby that is the home arcade!
@TynologyGaming

Yes good points! I've heard great things about the ALU and always keep my eyes open for when they go on sale. I got each of these for $199 so it was hard to pass up. I wish there was a better (and cost-effective) solution to put together a custom cabinet honestly.

@@TynologyGaming I feel A1U can be the one to do that! They have the tooling and means to manufacture a blank cabinet. Give the customers the ability to add-on buttons, speakers, or a monitor. Arcade1Up Build-a-cade, seriously guys, make it happen!

When you want to "make new holes" i use a "Holesaw" not that Pyramid Drills for the Acryllic It "takes a while" because you have to be cautious - but with a Holesaw you can make holes without cracking the Acryllic I modded a damaged MVSX for myself just a month ago and also modded a Arcade1UP for my friend 2 years ago where i had to drill new Buttons ^^

Hello! Wow, nice to see you post on here! Seems like a dogs age....Anyway! You forgot one more way to play arcade games...Arcade Superguns! I've got 2 of them! (Technically they're Neo Geo MVS with Arcade Supergun functionality, there are some that are just the arcade Supergun, Modern Vintage Gamer and LGR cover a little, although MVG covers how he streams it, cool stuff)regardless, that is really cool, I'm a tech guy myself so that looks very cool to do! @TynologyGaming I'm willing to take care the extra buttons on control deck and on plexiglass at no cost or for a simple shoutout my direction. Many folks try to drill holes with that exact same bit that you have on video for both control panel and plexiglass and are making a mistake b/c that bit is hard to determine if you are putting too much pressure or if you are drilling a large enough hole for your buttons. So you end up drilling holes that is too big. If you really want to use that bit then drill holes on both front and back direction until desired hole size. Still waste of time in my opinion. Not your fault that is what was taught from others that starting to put ("MOD") these arcades. I did the same back in the days until I did a "bit" of trial and error. I'm in California by the way. Thank you!

The first converter board I bought a while ago and would not accept a 1280x960 resolution. I bought the second recently that was the same product but a variation specifically made for the model of my A1U monitor. They currently sell 3 versions depending on the model of the monitor used inside the various A1U cabinets. If you know of a video controller board that works on all A1U monitors regardless of model, please let me know as I spent many hours digging to not get any better solution than to buy the one made for your monitor.

@@TynologyGaming , The more I've looked into the home arcade scene since, the more your modding of this cabinet makes sense. For the price range, there's not many other 4 player options, not many full size cabinets out there, and it can be easily bought on sale. Did you get around to modding it further, extra buttons, LCD Marquee?

@@CDbiggen I haven’t yet. It works well enough and I play games with my kids (and show it off when I have anyone over) but I still have a lot to do to get it where I ultimately want it to be, and other projects keep getting put ahead of it haha
