I was 9 years old when Ajax humiliated Bayern Munich 4-0 in the 1973 Champions Cup quarter final. Being German and, at this time, Fan of Bayern Munich, I was upset. But now I have to admit that the Ajax team of the early 70ies was one of the best sides of all times. They were not only successful, it was also wonderful and beautiful football. And Johan Cruyff was simply a Genius. RIP and I miss these times.

Yeah, 4-0 in Amsterdam and 1-2 in Munich. 5-2 for Ajax ! Terrific side. I also remember Ajax- Bayern 5-2 from 1995 (semi-final).

Watched this with my Dad at home on a black and white TV. One of the first big matches where I knew what was going on. The first would have been Leeds Utd v Sunderland in the FA Cup Final which would have been earlier in this month, May 1973.

Ricordo come fosse ieri l’amarezza di un bambino di 9 anni che seguiva la prima finale di Coppa dei Campioni a casa dei miei nonni in una vecchia Tv in bianco e nero. Diciamolo l’Ajax era più forte ed era anche la favorita ma come da lunga e futura tradizione la Juve in quella FInale non scese in campo..non è esistita...non due passaggi consecutivi, non un rimpallo vinto, non un pressing riuscito, la classica Juve da finale di Champion ( tranne pochissime eccezioni) inesistente...

Che l'ajax praticasse un gioco innovativo non vi è dubbio ma dalle azioni non sembra una juventus assente. Semmai iperdifensiva, e fa impressione notare come la juventus di Allegri giochi in maniera identica nel 2024. La juventus è proprio la squadra perfetta per i nostalgici come me. Una sola volta ha giocato una finale aggressiva e l'ha vinta: 1996.

Questa grandissima squadra ha rivoluzionato il calcio, nettamente superiore a tutte le squadre del mondo, se dopo la terza coppa non avesse venduto i migliori avrebbe vinto come minimo per altri tre anni.

Non posso dire se l' Ajax 1971-1973 e' stata la migliore squadra mai esistita. I tempi sono diversi, anche molte regole del gioco sono cambiate, diverso allenamento, diversi campi di gioco, diverse mentalita', insomma niente e' piu' lo stesso. PERO... e' stata la squadra che ha influenzato piu' di tutte le altre, con il suo "Total Football" , il modo di giocare e nono solo. L' impronta di questa formidabile squadra rimane imperitura!

Ok però non tutte le formazioni da te citate, hanno vinto tutto, in quanto il Brasile dell’ 82 pur fortissimo, non vinse quel mondiale. Quella finale tra Juve e Ajax è stata la conferma di una formazione piena di giocatori molto forti atleticamente ma soprattutto con tecnica sopra la media capitanati da quel grande profeta del gol Joan Cruijff.

L'Ayax apri un ciclo vincendo per 3 anni .. 70/72/73 la Coppa dei campioni cosa che raccontava decisamente la forza di quella squadra insieme così moderna e veloce con un fuoriclasse Johan Cruijff ..e con altri Rep.. Kroll Neskens ect ect !!!

Avendo perso "solo" 1-0 contro l'Ajax di Cruijff, sarebbe anche una sconfitta onorevole. Lo stesso punteggio contro l'Amburgo, fu molto più degradante.

L Amburgo aveva vinto una coppa delle coppe nel 1977, perso una finale di Coppa campioni nel 1980, perso una finale di Coppa Uefa nel 1982 e arrivo di nuovo in finale nel 1983 in coppa campioni. In 7 stagioni europee aveva fatto 4 finali in tutte e 3 le competizioni, più o meno con la stessa squadra e aveva anche dato alcuni elementi alla Germania campione d Europa nel 1980. Non è che fosse proprio l ultima squadra arrivata li per caso. La Juventus era più forte? Penso di si, ma non c era quell abisso di valori che molti credono, la differenza era molto più piccola. E sono juventino.

@@lucalucchesi9836 Non mi sono mai sognato di denigrare l'Amburgo, anche perchè ricordo che prima della partita ebbi una discussione accesa con mio padre, il quale diceva che loro non erano nessuno e che noi avremmo vinto alla grande. Io dissi che l'Amburgo era arrivato in finale giocando a calcio e che quindi aveva le stesse probabilità della juve. Ritengo però quella sconfitta della juve molto degradante, ma non per togliere il giusto merito dell'Amburgo, ma per colpa dell'allenatore nostro che sbagliò la disposizione della squadra. Oltretutto sulla carta, avevamo una squadra tale, che avrebbe dovuto battere chiunque.

@@millalino1989 Purtroppo e non dico di te, molti non conoscono la storia del calcio e pensano che quell Amburgo fosse una squadra di raccattati. Io avevo 6 anni, ho avuto modo di rivedere la partita e tutto sommato la vinsero meritatamente. Il loro gol però nessuno mi toglie dalla testa che fosse un tentativo di cross, purtroppo è finito all incrocio dei pali. Che la partita fu sbagliata ti do ragione, e anche che, effettivamente, eravamo molto molto forti. Purtroppo è nel nostro DNA perdere le finali di coppa campioni, ma almeno ne abbiamo giocate 9, c'è chi ne ha giocate solo 2 o 3. Speriamo di poterne giocare un altra a breve termine.

Alcune squadre di calcio sono entrate nella leggenda e l' Ajax è una di queste. Purtroppo abbiamo pochissima documentazione filmata di ciò che fecero il Torino di Valentino Mazzola , l'Honved di Ferenc Puskas e poche altre. C'è da dire anche che erano un poco diversi i regolamenti, per esempio non so se si potevano sostituire due giocatori all'inizio degli anni 50. Credo tuttavia di poter affermare che l'Ajax è stata la prima delle squadre moderne .Purtroppo nelle finali del mondiale ,l'Olanda è sempre stata molto sfortunata....meriterebbe un titolo mondiale honoris causa.

tv listings have the bbc showing this live with david coleman as the commentator (back then they had the odd years and itv had the even years) - but this video has brian moore (itv) - maybe they did a highlights showing later in the week.

Definitely not. Ajax would have won it at least another 2 times. The only thing that would have stopped them was complacency. They had already started to implode. I'm not sure I've seen a more confident strutting team than that Ajax side.

A proposito del mondiale perso nel 1974 ricordi male, molto male! Al limite va a rivedere la partita, che in rete si trova. Era certamente una grande Olanda ma non dominò quella Germania, perse una partita equilibrata ma non immeritatamente... anzi, l'arbitro annullò anche un regolarissimo 3-1 di Gerd Müller nel secondo tempo

La Juventus non era la favorita di quella finale , ricordiamolo perse onorevolmente anche se LONGOBUCCO sul goal di REP poteva opporsi meglio !!!!! Quell' AJAX era VERAMENTE forte !!!!! Quindi perdere SOLO 1 a 0 fu anche un onore !!!!! Forse la Juve poteva esprimersi anche meglio ma fu giusto così !!!!

Mi rincresce andare a vedere se fu su questo video o su qualche altro che feci un commento. Anche se stavamo facendo il servizio militare (Milano, Bersagliere 3° reggimento) il capitano di compagnia ci consentì di vedere quella finale di coppa campioni. Di certo l'Ajax era più forte della juve. Anni dopo, con calciatore per l'appunto il n. 3 mio conterraneo, tale Silvio Lomgobucco (r.i.p.) ne parlammo e pur ammettendo che gli Olandesi erano più forti, si lamentò sul goal che fece proprio l'uomo (Rep) che lui doveva marcare. A posteriori, si puo dire che quella sera, non sarenbe stato il caso di giocare con tre attaccanti, lasciando fuori un centrocampista come Helmut Haller.

Once again Johan Cruyff is just content to drop back and disappear into midfield once Ajax take the lead, instead of demanding as captain that his team go for more goals. These tactics would cost Holland dearly in the next year's World Cup final. Although one of the few truly great post war players in terms of technical ability, it was difficult to understand what was going on in his head.

He didn't disappear in midfield, what the hell are you talking about? he drove the pace of games, and ball's possesion from midfield, which is completely different...This Ajax team was so offensively talented that they didn't depend on Cruyff goals. It seems you don't understand the principles of total football. It seems you don't get how the Dutch squad reached the 1974 WC final game. Because it was this way, with Cruyff playing like this. Blaming him for Holland loss in that final is the dumbest, stupid, moronic statement I ever saw regarding Cruyff. The guy won 3 European Cups in a row and still there's the typical youtube moron criticising just because he's a smartass

@@JulioLeonFandinho Cruyff was a truly brilliant player and my favourite player of all time. I agree, he didn't disappear. He did say commenting on this match years later that Ajax wanted to show the world how good they were but Juventus, once a goal down, didn't want to come out and play. They were it seems, content with not getting a good hammering. So if a team wants to defend all game, even when a goal down, let them be and just carry off the trophy.

@@michaelcollins3091 A game of football lasts for 90 minutes and you should expect everyone to play - not like long distance runners but like footballers, attempting to set up an attack that will bring a goal EVERY TIME THEY GET THE BALL. This is the sort of football that made the game universally popular.

@@Ruda-n4h Yep, if you actually watch the game Ajax made attack after attack, particularly in the first half. Seems you have a bias against Ajax/Holland and Cruyff. Plus, one team cannot attack every minute of the game. And you can talk Gunter, your lot scored two lucky goals in the 74 world cup finals ad then played a containing game for the whole second half.

@@Ruda-n4h And another point, it is 'exactly' like a long distance race. You can't run say a full 10k race at full speed all the way round. Same with football, there are moments to pick up the pace and times to slow it down.

Players Juve 1996 had foam in their mouth. Disgrace that such a big club won two titles with clear doping and by playing a match just after the disaster in Brussel.

Zut Zut la Rubentus non ha vinto una coppa campioni come lo steaua nel 1986, infatti il meglio ottenuto è stato all olimpico e ai rigori, con tutto lo stadio pieno di tifosi Rubentus ai rigori e persino nel proprio paese, :)
