30 Facts You Didn't Know About Mad Max: Fury Road

With 2 new Mad Max films on the horizon, I knew I had to make a video on one of my all time favorite post-apocalyptic action flicks, Fury Road!
In many ways it's a miracle this movie was even released with the development hell it went through for 15 years, and it feels like some of that bad luck rubbed off on me, cause my PC nearly died multiple times through the making of this video!
Make sure to like and subscribe if you enjoyed it! I'm off to hopefully fix whatever's wrong with my computer, have a great day everyone!

Fury Road is a rare example of a movie where it feels like the worldbuilding extends beyond what we directly see. That's not uncommon in sci fi or fantasy books, but Movies don't go the extra mile in that category nearly as often.

Well because it was a sequel we did not have to worry about much of the origin stories many films have to deal with. And because of those earlier films we can make a lot of assumptions about context in this movie.

@@glenchapman3899 Exactly. The worldbuilding is minimal because we already know 99% of the plot from the earlier movies. Bad guy controls resources, people are enslaved, Max saves the day allmost entirely against his will. The story itself is 98% carchases and explosions, all we need is a reason for the chase to happen and the rest of the backstory is not irrelevant. This was also true for StarWars and that is why the prequeals failed: *don't tell the backstory*.

My favorite fact is, that the gigahorse actually has a working twin v8 engine. They could have easily just made it look that way and hide a big diesel underneath. It is hard to reconcile that Peter Weir directed the Cars That Ate Paris when you consider his later films, it is hardly Oscar-winning stuff. An indication that bizarre and perhaps even original does not equal good. I can't see anything from The Cars... in the earlier Max films. When I first watched Fury Road, the spikey cars meant nothing, i did really have much time to think at all, my mind was blown. The second time, I thought, yeh, I have seen them before and remembered, but really the settings were quite differnt, in Paris the spikes stood out (no pun intended), but in Fury Road they fitted right in. I hope they bring the Max films back to cinemas when the new one comes out, or at least Fury Road, nothing beats the big screen, sitting so you can't see the edges of the screen. I do that for very few films, the only other I can remember is 2001, first in 1980 (I was alone in the theatre in the middle of the day having sat for my last university exam that semester) and then in 2001 re-release in 70mm SuperPanavision -Wow! I missed out on the Nolan restored original? 70mm SuperPanavision Screening in 2018, I doubt that I will get another chance, which is a shame.

@@derkeheath5172 Sometimes you see something that is interesting and you want to know what it is. For a movie that has as much effort into developing well thought out and interesting setting and is engaging as Fury Road is, it shouldn't be surprising that people want to learn as much about it as they can. It seems unnecessarily dismissive to suggest that those people just lack imagination. It's a bit like concluding that the people who were fine with them not being explained simply lack curiosity, instead of understanding that they just prefer more mystery.

He's a great actor. He has that serious look about him to pull it off too. I think the movie, Deliver Us From the Devil, was a great, and hardly ever talked about, movie he was in.

Quick word on Aussie doofs. Pronounced Doof as in woof. Not doof as in goof. And named for the doof doof of the music that goes all day and all night until the events over. Also, never heard of it being called a “doof party”. Bush doof or rave are the only terms I hear. Awesome video all in all though!

The lack of oil was more of a thing in Mad Max 2. In Fury Road, one of Immortan Joe's allies controls a place called "Gas Town" that appears to be an entire refinery.

The last I saw was the original Crow movie...it was so good as the comic book...very rare to have all part in one movie...story, music,visual and all those in one . Oh Alien also and batman with Michelle Pfeiffer😊..lol good job it deserved a long story.

Btw center framing comes from early Hollywood films, they also had boarders that were square so you knew for a fact your were watching the relevant characters for the scene. It’s known as classic Hollywood style.

Mad Max Fury Road is so epic I almost don't care about the previous Mad Max films anymore (They are well made, interesting movies that show insight into the character of Max and the world he lives in, but the action is so far behind it's not even funny)
@oliverholmes-gunning5372

I disagree. I think the lower budget action is like 90% of the charm of the older movies, especially the first one. Don't get me wrong, Fury Road was amazing and I loved it, but for me nothing beats the minimalist, gritty, low-budget feel of the original movie. It just has this wonderful seventies sleaze exploitation vibe to it, the epitome of guerilla filmmaking. And the fact that all the action scenes are, to quote Stuntman Mike in Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof, "real cars smashing into real cars, with real dumb people driving" with no safety features or CGI enhancement or anything like that just makes it all the cooler. Again, I really, genuinely loved Fury Road as a movie in its own right and it was fascinating to see what Miller could do with a huge budget and unlimited resources, but it just felt too polished and slick to be a true Mad Max movie for me.

That would make sense, except the Interceptor is a small flaw. It's clear meant to be the car from the 1st film, modified for the 2nd (such as the gas tank locations), but more worn down. Remember, they point out in the 1st film how rare that car is
